I'm looking forward to that interview.

Hopefully he provides some real insight into how they reached the decision to break up.

I'm also very curious about the solo album.

Musically, of course, but also the fact that he has stated it will be what the next HIM album was supposed to be. In that regard, I can't imagine Ville doing anything else except for maybe a covers album that probably wouldn't draw very much interest or income. Whatever winds up happening, he's still going to be much better off than the rest of the guys who will fade off into obscurity once it's all over whether they choose to make me music or not.

I'd love to know the thought process behind the solo album and how the rest of the band feels about essentially being replaced.

I certainly hope we get some real answers. What I'm worried we'll get is a bunch of "ying/yang" bullshit like usual. "We felt that HIM's darkness had faded and it was time to brighten up the place...with an Ikea lamp."

LOL that's SO what I can read him saying too...

I was talking with a friend today and had an idea that HIM was in fact dead, but came back as another band that was darker/heavier, but never acknowledge their past and don't play their old songs.  Similar to Ghost, who was a pop band before they changed their gimmick...though I don't expect them to change singers each album.

I've seen a few scans of the MH interview, not big enough to read the whole thing but some larger quotes. Choice ones were "I felt like the guys weren't interested anymore..." "What's next for me? I have picked up a guitar." and "It's not goodbye. It's thank you."

Also, here is the begining of the article:
"Here, for the first and only time, Ville Valo reveals why HIM have chosen to go out with a with a bang after 26 years, and why some things are best left to die
It’s mid-afternoon on a Monday in October and all eyes in the country are turned towards the sky. Hurricane Ophelia, one of the most colossal and potentially violent weather systems to emerge in these parts for 30 years, is slowly, inexorably amassing power above the UK with one peculiar side-effect. Vast amounts of desert sand suctioned up from the Sahara has intermingled with the low-flying clouds to turn the sky a deep orange, and – as confirmed by tens of thousands of pictures appearing on social media – the sun is currently blood red. We’ve been assured that Hell hasn’t opened, but it’s as if someone’s added an Apocalypse filter to the UK and it’s hard not to imagine that if the world really was going up in flames it might look just a little bit like this – and with everyone Instagramming it as it happens.

It’s a fitting scene, because at this very moment at Murder Mile Studios, deep in the bowels of Walthamstow in East London, there’s a world that really is coming to an end. Photographer John McMurtrie is currently taking what could be Metal Hammer magazine’s last ever pictures of Ville Hermanni Valo: a man who, as the founding frontman, visionary and creative force behind His Infernal Majesty, has graced these pages more times than this 31-year-old publication could easily count. To say he’s been a giant in our world would be understating the case, because nearly 20 years to the day that HIM’s debut arose out of the Finnish rock scene and went platinum there, Ville Valo has proved himself more than a mere musician. The wry gloom of his outlook and his flair for a dramatic turn of phrase have established him as a formidable songwriter, but it’s his inimitably gothic style, his comfort with the lens, the studied way in which he expresses himself – his personification of the Heartagram – that have long since established him as one of his generation’s last, true icons. If HIM have endured then it’s because the man at the helm hasn’t just captured hearts and imaginations the world over. It’s because he’s interesting. It’s because Ville Valo is an original.

And then there’s the music: heavy as wrought- iron, unabashedly romantic, and resolutely Sabbathian while embracing the poppier sensibilities and emotional earnestness of the 80s goth movement, HIM didn’t just record songs; they built a world around themselves which Ville has presided over for a staggering 26 years. Now, like an indifferent god, he wants nothing more to do with it."
It's the end of the road, hold me. It's the end of the road and we're free...

In the next issue of Metal Hammer: KOSMO TELLS ALL! BACKSTAGE DRAMA AND LIES! AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT THE HIM BREAKUP AND HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED!

For real, though, I'd be interested in his story. Someone needs to interview him.

How I know I'm still a HIM fan: I woke up tonight and immediately I had this weird sorta sad sorta anxious feeling because of the Chicago show and my not being there.

Before I went to bed I saw a post from CKY on Twitter about the concert, so I guess it was the last thing on my mind before I drifted off to sleep.

Despite everything, that was last chance to experience everything for the final time. To be among other fans and to relive old memories in my head of days gone by with great friends I don't hardly talk to and never get to see anymore. I still can't really say I regret missing the show itself, but I did experience a brief moment of realization that it's really over now and it's sad thinking nothing will ever be the same again within the HIM universe as a whole. It hasn't been the same for awhile as far as the online community goes, but now I can imagine it'll only get worse. It feels almost like growing up and leaving home. I truly miss the old days where this message board and other message boards were packed with people and excitement about the band. Those boards and this one have always been a place of comfort for me. Like an old relic of better days.

Maybe they'll play that during the encore.

Being in a band is a job not unlike any other job. We're the management, and this Farewell Tour is akin to them giving us their two week notice. In the meantime, they're just going through the motions in order to fulfill their remaining duties. I'll still give them a good recommendation, but I'll make sure to note that they lack initiative.
