Watch them get delayed indefinitely or cancelled lol. I just really wish things were different with the band right now. It'll never be like ten years ago again, but everything just seems so dead. If there's one thing I can look back on and appreciate from Warner, it's the fact that they kept the band and their image in the public eye very well. Sure that also came along with heartagram bookbags and school folders, but it felt like the band was very much alive and breathing then. It's like they're on life support now. They need something to breathe life into them again. When they were on hiatus and it wasn't sure if that was the end or not, it was pretty sad. Then they announced their comeback, and it was like alright, they're back and now they're gonna kick some ass! Except they haven't really done that yet. Everything was a mystery leading up to Tears On Tape, and you pretty much had to search out news on your own. It never really felt like they were at it again. Then the album came out, and while it was good, it was still disappointing for the big comeback album. Short and nearly half instrumentals. Almost like a test album like Two Decades was a test release to see if the fans were still out there. Rock Allegiance, a cancelled US tour, and then a successful one later on, and it still doesn't feel like things have changed at all. I'd like to say I hope things start to pick up, but it's been a year since Tears On Tape and here we are still wondering what the hell is going on haha. I just hope the end isn't as near as it seems. It's inevitable, but I'm not ready yet. I want there to be a buzz about the band again one last time. A sense of excitement again. A sense of a loyal and loving fanbase once more that isn't just people commenting on a status on Facebook. I want to have more discussions. Ask more questions and give more answers. The band still has fans. Some are standing in plain view while others are hidden, but they're all still there for the most part somewhere. Whether they're new fans or they've been around for awhile, they still exist. No disrespect to this board because this is clearly a different audience here and the people I most relate to when it comes to the band, but if there was a real website with a message board again, I think people would sign up in droves. Of course it would be mostly fangirls talking about fangirl things, but it would seem like a big community again regardless. Again, no disrespect to this board. I think most people are too intimidated to post here because we don't talk about how anyone looks, we focus on the music because that's what's important. This place has been and always will be great for that reason, but I surely do miss the activity, and it's definitely one of the reasons why everything seems so dead because that aspect is basically dead, but the record label and the band need to kick it into high gear as well and give us the best final years they possibly can and go out in style. It sucks to think of it that way, but if something were to happen and the band was no more tomorrow or something, it would feel like a very empty ending to it all.

Out of interest does anyone think that Tears On Tape could possibly be HIM's last ever album and if not how many more can you realistically see coming?

why do you think this was their last album ? why would they end their career that early? because their label sucks and they have lousy advertisement of everything they do? blame their label and manager, or maybe they were just sick of it all when they were in Warner and they wanted to be more "underground" if i can call it this way, you know what i mean. You just based that they are ending because they dont have a proper website and you feel that everything died - blame facebook in the first place. If you followed their last south american tour - they looked and they were pretty happy, they enjoyed every second of it + i remember seeing the interview where Ville mentioned that they are going to make this summer festival european tour and then in fall they will work on new material, google it

I don't think it will be their last album I was just adding to Swags post and seeing if anyone thought TOT would be their last as he's right In the fact they're nearing the end or their careers.

They're definitely winding down. I wouldn't expect to see as many more albums come out as we already have. I would like to see them make one more big run at the US, just to see if they can pull off a hit on the scale of Join Me here. WOAB was big, but it wasn't that big.
Come love me 'till it hurts, dance the neon noir with me.

It's hard for me to envision more than two new albums to look forward to. I just think they simply won't be able to afford to make more than that. Making an album and doing it right is fucking expensive. You have to earn all of that money back before you can start to profit, obviously, and when people paying for their music is only becoming less and less common than it already was, you really have to sit back and think if making a new album is even worth it. The guys may have looked to be in good spirits lately, but they aren't getting any younger and I'm not sure how much longer they want to be doing this for. They've been at it for a long time now. They can't keep going forever. So, I see two more, and I hope they're damn good. Not that Tears On Tape wasn't good, but I'm hoping for something better and longer too with no instrumentals. I'd also like to see them go with a different producer other than the usual two suspects, at least for the first one, and see what happens. It would certainly freshen things up a bit. As long as they don't pick someone like the Disney pop producer Matt Squire like they did with Screamworks, I think the results would be good. I'm kind of tired of Hiili and Tim, to be honest. They're both good at what they do, but it's time for someone else to step in. Maybe they can't afford anyone different now, though. Going back to Matt Squire for a moment, I still don't understand the band's decision to move along with him. Either Warner Bros. was really pushing for him, or it had something to do with Kat Von D. Either way, it makes no sense that the band would fire Andy Wallace five years earlier during the recording of Dark Light for making the band sound "too American" and then let Matt Squire do that exact same thing with Screamworks. Either way, I'm just hoping get someone different at the helm this time around. Can't think of anyone right off the top of my head that I would want to do it, but I'm sure there's tons of producers out there that would do great with the band and liven up the sound a bit without completely changing what we're so used to as the signature HIM sound.

Obviously i wish for nothing but the best for the band, but I can't really see them becoming as well known as they were a few years ago. I think HIM are slowly winding down, and I think two more albums would be it. I think that when the next album comes out, it'll still be like TOT, meaning it'll probably be a tad short along with the band hardly gaining that much recognition. Like i said, I wish for nothing but the best, but i just can't see HIM having the stardom they once had.

the next album will be short as ToT, Ville said that in the interviews that he hates long albums, and they prefer shorter albums around 30-35 minutes, Mige agreed with Ville on that, so....

I'd say that they're kinda at a low point right now, but we also can't forget that they had a pretty long break because of Gas's wrist. They've come back strong considering that fact and while some people may have moved on or forgot about them, they are still filling venues and such on tour. I will say, and I hate to admit it, that if they don't get their image back they will probably only put out 3 more albums, but we can't forget who they are and what they've accomplished in the past. They will work their way into the limelight again and things will go back to normal. These guys are all friends and have been through a lot together... The only way I could honestly see them ending is if something really bad happens.

Listening Screamworks and TOT i dont see any losing of ideas... Ville will never stop writing music (he is born to be what he is) and i dont think the others will leave him. after all this is their job and i dont think they are gonna change that any time soon... yes may be they will start releasing in 3-4 years between not in 2 as now and the good songs will be less but somehow i'm ok with that.

I think if they took a long hiatus like that it may be good for them. Maybe we'll get a nice long 40 track double album out of it lol.

the next album will be short as ToT, Ville said that in the interviews that he hates long albums, and they prefer shorter albums around 30-35 minutes, Mige agreed with Ville on that, so....

So....what? Ville says all sorts of things in interviews. We all know by now not to take anything he says too seriously. It's usually either a contradiction of something he's said in the past, an embellishment, or just a downright lie. There may be some truth in that particular statement, but I also think he was defending their big comeback album being so short. I firmly believe the band knew the album wasn't long enough, and that's why we got Live At Finnvox to go along with it instead of it being released online like what was originally talked about. Another short album wouldn't be so bad if a large chunk of it isn't experimental instrumental tracks. When it was originally said that TOT would feature instrumentals, I expected jams like they do live. All in all, I don't think it would be wise for the band to put out a Tears On Tape Part Two. A fresh change is needed.

Speaking of change, does anyone agree with me that someone else besides one or both of the usual two suspects should produce and mix the next album, or are you guys happy to just stick with what's worked before? Those two guys have really gotten stale on me.

we must wait for the new stuff at least a year. they mentioned that after summer festivals there will be no tour in fall and Ville will start working on the new songs. i think he already has some ideas and pieces, maybe some outtakes of previous album to work on. what really suprises me is that they totally screwed the website and left it like crap for more than year and a half. thats absolutely terrible idea. as there was mentioned their advertisement is terrible, there will be reissues of the first four albums, and we have no details, no advertisement, nothing.
i think they should do the album themselves for the first tíme without any help on producing and mixing. they already have a lot of experience and their self produced and self mixed demos are far better than final versions on the album. at least for me. and they should definitely restart their website as soon as possible.

I would like them either to do the whole album themselves or go for a producer/mixer they've never used before. We've heard the Tim Palmer and Hilli sound enough maybe use them on their very last album but for now try someone new. Let's be honest we're unlikely to end up hating the album, we haven't hated one yet. I stick with what I said on one of the earlier topics. I think the earliest we could get a new album would be Fall 2015-Early 2016.

i personaly hate Screamworks album on its sound side. Its lousy produced, mixing could have been better, at least they compensated it with the acoustic bonus CD which is perfect thing and they had balls to make Foreboding sense as it is, which is the best stuff on the entire CD for me. But to the Screamworks - terrible booklet (but nice front cover), very boring back cover, average CD cover! the contrast between low and high sides of the Screamwork is interesting. At least this is how i look at the entire Screamworks album with everything. The tour to the Screamworks was terrible too - with overlouding Miges and Burtons false back vocals, you barely heard Ville, he was insecure and not really enjoying it.

i consider their best sounding and best produced and mixed album Razorblade Romance, for me there is no weak part of the RR on its sound. If they decided to make an album with John Fryer again i would be pretty excited, because when they announce the duo Hiili and Tim Palmer we always know what we should and what we are expecting and there were no huge surprises on the sound when the duo worked on the album. Razorblade Romance sounds so raw, dirty and rocking! Its perfectly balanced HIM sound for me.

I don't hate any of their albums but i understand where your coming from with Screamworks and why that's the one people tend to dislike. I don't actually know why i like it the most. I honestly don't mind which album it sounds most like. I think well get an idea of how close the next album is if they play a new song at Helldone this year.

Screamworks was a little strange for me, and it still is, because sometimes i actually forget it's a HIM album. It sounds weird, i know, but the sound was just a lot different. I love the album, yes, but If someone asked me to list all the him albums, it would be that last one where I'd say "oh yeah, and screamworks".

They need to go full on garage mode for the next one, exactly what most of you are saying just record the demos over dub them with vocals and have someone barely mix it just so the levels are right and master the ish and done 12 or 13 full tracks it'll end up being their best album. They sound amazing live, although the live at finnvox is not what I have in mind more like Rescue.

Finvox live is amazing, i wish it was at least 15 songs live performed and released like that, like a live EP with Sleepwalking Past Hope, maybe with some DSBH songs too, that would be perfect

i dont hate screamworks, i only hate how it is produced and mixed and how it sounds, totally not-HIM style, i believe if they had Hiili and Tim Palmer on Screamworks it would be like Tears on Tape, maybe better - for example Sword of Democles version of Shatter me With hope (mixed by Hiili is far better than the entire album version of this song)

Im sure Ville said there were 9 songs from that Finnvox session in an interview, so we've got the 7 TOT bonus tracks and strange world, shouldn't there be another one somewhere?

You guys are going to think I'm really going crazy now (or just simply getting crazier, I guess) but to go along with a new producer for the next album, I think they should also have someone else master it as well. Ted Jensen has done the last three albums, and I'm not really too impressed with his work for the band. George Marino (RIP) has mastered the three best sounding HIM albums (Razorblade Romance, Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights, and Love Metal). What's interesting is, George Marino was the Senior Mastering Engineer at Sterling Sound. Ted Jensen, the guy they've been using since Venus Doom, is the Chief Mastering Engineer at Sterling Sound currently. George Marino is a legend, but you would think that a guy that is that high up in the ranks at the same company could be able to do a comparable job. George's masters were almost perfect. Ted's are really muddy, especially by comparison. George died in 2012, and I'm not really too sure why the band stopped using him after Love Metal. Stephen Marcussen mastered Dark Light in 2005, and then it was on to Ted Jensen from there on out. Ted is also the one who mastered Death Magnetic for Metallica, which is considered by a lot of people as the worst sounding album of all-time. Death Magnetic came out a year after Venus Doom did, though, so the band was already using him before that infamous album. As with the producer, I don't know of anyone off of the top of my head that I would want to do it, I just don't want a muddy sounding album anymore. If you have some high quality headphones, or a nice stereo setup or something, listen to some of Razorblade Romance and then immediately switch to Tears On Tape or Venus Doom. The difference is almost painful.

i know exactly what are you talking about Cory, altough i dont like how the Love Metal album is mixed, but RR is perfect in every aspect
when compared to Tears on Tape its clear what are you talking about, but in the other hand - for the band maybe thats not their priority because they know that most of the people will listen to their music in lousy shitty mp3 quality .....

i expect from these reissueses - limited versions tracklists (with all bonus songs on the first 4 albums - not the live CD that was on RR limietd, but the 9th Circle, Loves Requiem,..... you know) + well chosen never before released rarities (i hope no stupid remixes will be there, but true unreleased things like never before released songs, outtakes, demos)
