Slippery When Dead shirt
« on: January 04, 2014, 07:22:14 AM »
Hey guys seen as there has been some talk about SWD lately i thought i'd post what i just saw on ebay. I know it is very rare but as i was only 6 in 1999 and obviously didn't know about the band, I can't add much, but i thought it may be of interest to some of you.

maybe to add some validity that it is probably not some self-fan-made T-shit

7.....7. What, according to the legendarily accurate information source wikipedia, was the working title of your second album Razorblade Romance?
"Gotham Roll"
Kerrang: Not according to wikipedia.
"Well, Gotham Roll was the working title. What does wikipedia say? Slippery When Dead? That's wrong. We made a T-shirt with that on but we never referred to the album as that.
Kerrang: You know best! Another point.
(wikipedia answer: Slippery When Dead; actual answer: Gotham Roll)

http://www.himclub.com/forums/topic/3166-ville-answers-the-k-quiz/

so maybe its a real deal, but fucking terrible T-Shirt LOL

I don't think Slippery When Dead was ever seriously considered for the album title. It was just something fun they came up with while working on the demos, kind of like Ozzymandias Dargunum and the Deep Shadows demos. They're just demo tape titles, like how Pick-Up Lines From Hell Part 1 is for Screamworks.

It's Goth 'N' Roll... Why people think it's Gotham is beyond me.

Because Ville Valo himself said that in the interview, maybe thats why.
Its just funny working title - so no big deal and Ville knows the best
all our speculations are irrelevant anyway

Until I see a video with him saying it I'll believe that it is just a clerical error on the interviewer's part. Gotham makes no sense unless he was a huge fan of batman at the time because the word really holds no other meaning unless you're speaking about a very old reference to New York City..

Allow me to clear this up, here is an extract from Synnin viemää.

" Ville wanted to call it Goth ‘N’ Roll, and I didn’t think it was a good name, Asko Kallonen from BMG says. - I said that even Razorblade Romance, which Ville had suggested before, was better, and Ville thought it was fucking shit. We kept having that conversation for a while, and finally Ville and the band agreed to the name on the condition that I would treat them to a fancy lunch. And that if the name was shit, it would always be the record company’s fault."

New rule in 2014...Inferno is always right.

No matter how outrageous his claims are, he is right.  Anyone speaking otherwise is to be charged with treason and will face a public humiliation and/or execution.

Besides all that, the shirt looks like shit and worth nowhere near $450!

lol... I didn't mean to sound like an ass. I was just simply stating that Gotham makes absolutely no sense. I have been wrong many times before.

As far as the T-Shirt, it may be legit, but I agree it's not worth that price for something that could be fake and holds no meaning for most of HIM's fans. Also, shouldn't "HIM" have the lines through it?

Haha, I know...I've decided to eliminate "lol" from my texts and posts, so without it, it comes off as a bit more harsh.  There was an LOL attached at the end of that.  :)

Let's say you were to buy that shirt and had the audacity to wear it; it's possible that not many HIM fans will know what it even refers to.

Lol, I don't think anyone in their right mind would buy the shirt it looks like shit, could well be fake and costs $450 but at least it's given us something to talk about.

So Synnin Viemaa? I never had a chance to read it in English and i dont know a word in Finnish so  ;D
But Gotham Roll sounded OK for a working title as we all know Villes kind of humor and he used to make a lot of fun of people back in the days, mostly in RR era, so it would not surprise me if it was a real working title
and just between us - Batman rocks! (trilogy from Ch. Nolan)

It's definitely real. I've seen a few for sale throughout the years. Besides that, it wouldn't really make much sense to fake something like that. For one, it's a shirt, and most HIM collectors don't really deal too much with shirts. Not even that, but most collectors I've spoken to personally had no idea what Slippery When Dead even was. There's not really a big market when it comes to clothing with HIM collectors. Even if they did know what it was and they wanted it, that's way too much for a shirt, no matter how cool and rare it is. If someone's gonna make a fake of something, they're going to make something people know and is sought after, not some long sleeve shirt. It's just another case of someone thinking their item is worth more than it actually is. Rare? Sure. Valuable? Well, the market dictates value, and most people don't know or care enough about the shirt, so they shouldn't be asking what they are. Someone will probably come along and buy it, though. No matter how crazy of a price you think something is when it comes to this HIM stuff, someone always comes along and gets it. It's crazy. I stopped doing it, and now I'm selling all my stuff for a profit. Feels good, man.

I can't believe someone thinks that it will get a bid at that price.  Seriously what are they smoking? Give me some!  ;D

I have been really, really, really wanting one of those "No Sleep 'Til Halloween" posters and there is one on eBay for $499 or $599 (forgot exact amount).  WTF?  I could pay off a credit card or buy a round trip plane ticket to somewhere awesome for that kind of money. People are insane!

Yeah I had seen that. He/she had it originally listed as $100.00 and has lowered the price to $80.00.  I tried the "make an offer" for what I would be willing to pay and it comes back as an automatic decline from the seller.  If they aren't willing to consider offers or make a counteroffer, I don't understand why they allow the "make an offer" option. Seems like a waste of time. Oh well, I'll let someone else buy it at an overpriced amount.  They have some other cool things but in my opinion they are grossly mispriced.
