Sounds like a mix of Dark Light and Deep Shadows. Like both of these more then Heartkiller.

Wow, "Scared to Death"' has an amazing refrain! Can't wait for the studio track to leak! And I totally agree with lovemetal626, that song makes me feel warm inside.
"Love the Hardest Way" is pretty nice, too.

Hate to say it, but Scared to Death sucks... It's boring, it's poppy. Kinda cool riff, but I'm pretty sure Squire did everything he could to mute guitars on album and make the song even poppier. And if (according to Hammer) there are even more poppy songs on Screamworks, I'm scared to death of this album

Love the Hardest Way on the other hand seems like a good stuff. Not as good as Venus Doom, not as good as the old stuff, but far better than Dark Light at least. I have to admit I'm afraid anyway because, comparing studio and live recording of Heartkiller, it seems that Squire muted guitar down - just listen how more rocking sound Heartkiller has in live version.

Ville said somewhere that he wanted more of an 80's vibe, with the synth to sound like a synth, not other instruments like strings, etc.  So it could be an artist decision to focus less on the guitar.

And keep in mind that we don't have the best quality stuff of STD (oh my...) and LTHW...

Yeah, maybe you're right. Though it seems like producer always have big (too big?) part in HIM music. It's not a coincidence, that their best albums are the ones produced with Hiili. Still, maybe Ville himself picks producer depending on what he wants to achieve. He wanted heavy stuff with Venus Doom, so Hiili did the job. He wanted something more poppy, synth-based, and here we are with some random pop-rock producer

On the other hand, considering that indeed Ville picks the guy by himself, what was the reason behind choosing Palmer before? I mean, before HIM this guy managed to screw even Ozzy's album, and you have to be really hopeless to kill Ozzman's characteristic sound like that... But I guess this isn't the right thread for this discussion, we're talking about new stuff here

Nevermind, we should really wait a bit more for the album to come out. We'll see then. What can I tell now, I'm not as impatient with Screamworks, as I was with VD. Ohh, i so agree with you on your feelings after hearing Dead Lovers Lane
I remember i didnt have any excpectations before Venus Doom, because i think Dark Light sucks. And then i heard Dead Lovers Lane and i was a re-born HIM fan,hehe:D
