Album ones.
Of course I know lots of people like this album. But for me, as I like heavy music, album ver. of Beautiful or Please Don't... is much worse than their Rock Versions, which I believe were the first. There are some songs on DSABH that sound good as they are. Love You Like I Do is amazing, Pretending is good, and so is Lose You Tonight. But for example Salt In Our Wounds or Heartache sound like they're lacking something (like a good, louder guitar ;) ). For me, one of the best songs is Again, and I can't understand why it's just a bonus track.
While listening to Again (Hollovlad Tepes), Beautiful (Rock Version) and PDLIG (Punk ver.), I think the band wanted this album to sound a bit punkish, and label made them totally change it...

It's an interesting theory but still, Heartache is perfect as it is, don't know if it was supposed to sound different...

It's really hard to tell, I'd kill to hear all demos from DSABH :D
One more thing to prove I'm right - first DSBH song played live was Again back in 2000, and usually if HIM plays new song before album release, it's song that shows us what we can expect from whole album - before RR they played Join Me and I Love You, before Love Metal it was BABL, and before VD release they played Dead Lovers' Lane first. Somehow with DSBH it's completely different - we get Again, In Love and Lonely and You Are The One, all of which sound like good, rocking songs, and then the album is nothing like it.
For my name is sorrow and I'm a friend of misery
I deprived myself of love for eternal agony
And I don't even dare to try - I know I can only lose
Between this life I live and nothing I have to choose

Damn I am getting the HIM restlessness again.  I love it but hate it at the same time.  I am intrigued to see what direction the band takes this time round, but I know I am going to like it whatever happens  ;)

What with this album and the new 69 Eyes album, I am stoked!

im excited to hear that is very 80s sounding, i love the 80s.

just imagining Ville's voice and HIMs classic melancholy melodies but in a 80s vibe, very depechemode like (violator, ULTRA)ish

excited cannot wait.

hopefully it really is 80s sounding, ville always says stuff like its more raw or punk or W/E and then when it comes out, its not really what he said  :D

I would agree with you my dear although i am wanting of more heavy guitar riffs and a little more on the drums I think the thing that always bugged me was the utter slow progression of the drum lines.

I'm thinking the past couple of years we've got pretty excited with the albums titles and samples,, and ...unfortunately the album sucked (look at DL , VD -- ps:my opinion) maybe next year the title is stupid but the album will be gold:D who knows:-??  cheers, long time no posting.

im kinda doubting it.

villes talking (again) about the more "punky" feeling...more stripped down...no ear candy.

lame.

HIM is ALLLLLL about ear candy...i dont care what anyone says...

the only HIM elements that have been left in their songs....is that their all singles...

as much as we like em or not....their all setup for singles....

well...97% of em are...song or suicide PFF...

i dunno in my opinion i think the last album was non radio friendly which i liked. with the really long outros and bridges and such. i just hope  the new one has good songs whatever they sound like or way they are produced and lyrically touching as well.

yea it was def a good album....but idk...i guess we should all just get used to it.

they are never going to do what they did before...so...might as well move on and keep the tunes from the past in our hearts...

and all you no0bs to HIM who are h3lla obsessive.....it'll pass.....trust me.

97% of us on here were at one time 'HIMS BIGGEST FAN' who knew/knows all the info there is/was to know (cuz be honest...theres nothing new anyone needs to know...)...HIM will always be (for most of us) our favorite band.

but itll never be what it once was.

you missed out....deal with it.

FUCKERS!

in my eyes the coolness of being apart of an online HIM community...died with the BMMB...this was a good place for it to continue...but it came about at a time when everyone was/is moving on....its just sad...

I really am intrigued by what the next album is supposed to be.

I would have liked them to elaborate on Venus Doom because that is an immense album.  But it seems the next album is gonna be different yet again.

I don't think is fair to say that they won't release an album as good as the past again because you never know, but I understand the thought.

I am happy they keep trying something different because it keeps it fresh but there is a small part of me that wishes we would see another Razorblade Romance or Love Metal.

To be honest whatever happens, we're all gonna get it and enjoy it  :P

i see it like this.

all the shit before LM/ALSN was the best shit they could have ever done...in the style they were doing it.

DL and on....americanized.

it really sucks that america sucks so much dick that they had to change in order to actually get a good chance over here.

i would LOVEEEEE to believe that they are just getting themselves through the door in the US and make sure its closed behind them...so that they can do the old stuff.

but...its just not true...HIM will forever and always be a changing band.

just like papa roach...the only thing consistant about them...is that their inconsistant.

Yeah I understand that LonelyRoad, makes sense.

But personally I think the "breaking America" thing died with Venus Doom.  I mean that album didn't exactly knock the charts for six or anything.  I think they still do make the music for themselves but they're trying to look at the bigger picture in the long run.

I must say that Dark Light HIM was the most commercialised stuff ever haha.

well we'll see what happens with the next album.

i just hate hearing this "no more ear candy" stuff...the HIM sound is pure ear candy. simple as that.

but we shall see.

HIM has been pretty lousy as of late. Each release seems to be a bigger disappointment than the last, with maybe the exception of a few tracks off of Venus Doom, but even the little redeeming qualities were a tiny improvement in the large scheme of things. They've lost their edge. They take themselves too seriously. Everything is way too sentimental and Ville's lyrics feel so forced, almost as if he's out of ideas. Instead of trying to orchestrate grand compositions, they need to concentrate on writing more straight forward material, like the rock anthems and ballads that were abundant on Razorblade Romance and Deep Shadows.

As far as HIM is concerned, I think simple songwriting is their best attribute. Where did the glam-rock keyboards and fast guitar riffage go? It's far better than the "heavy" (lol) single chord bullshit we've been fed lately.

I'm hopeful the new album will be a dramatic change, but I can't say I'm all too excited...

Just give me a God damn bare bones rock album!

i like everything they do honestly, i think ville is just being himself i think the past two albums sounds couldve been better productioni wise i think they have done a good thing by getting a new one this time around. i wish they would work with rick rubin that album would be the best i guarantee! i think tim palmer is a better mixer  than anything he mixed love metal only that album was great. if the past two albums would have been done completely acoustic or unplugged i bet everyone would love them as much as razorblade or love metal or dsbh, it's the god damn producer! so lets hope this next guy does the right thing. im actually gonna look into the stuff hes done and see what it sounds like then give a estimated guess at how good i think the him album will come out.

he also said the same thing about venus doom hes pretty much said the same about every album since dark light. ke also said it would be more direct and punky in feel for both dark light and venus doom so we'll see. It could go one way or another with Matt Squire either it will be a poppy shitty album kinda like dark light or it wont (wish they wouldnt abadon the sound they developed on venus doom) so just have to wait and see

I just want new material.

I'm really craving new HIM stuff, as I've become accustomed to new songs leaking every 2 summers. '05 for Dark Light and '07 for Venus Doom. I just really want them to get back in touch with the fan base. Interviews, videos, tour dates etc.

They will soon enough. I'm glad they are taking an extended rest before going to record. Not only do they deserve it, but being refreshed might lead to better material.
