What Dark Light might have been?
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:02:47 PM »
I was reading through an old issue of Metal Hammer from August 2005 and came across something interesting. They had a small write up about Dark Light and gave a track listing that looks nothing like what we got.

Vampire Heart
Dark Light
Behind The Crimson Door
Face of God
Bound To Be Wrong
Killing Loneliness
Under The Rose
Forever Haunted
Wings of a Butterfly
Night in Despair
Drunk on Shadows

Night in Despair and Forever Haunted sound like way cooler titles than "Play Dead" and "The Cage". I wonder if demos exist for these songs, or which songs they were renamed to? Does anyone know of any other information about this? I wonder what connection any of these titles had to the original title for Dark Light (the album), Politics of the Heart?

For me Night In Despair sounds like other title of In The Nightside of Eden.
Forever Haunted would be good for Play Dead, and Bound to Be Wrong is propably Cage or In Our Blood.

I remember reading somewhere, that before DL release, on some secret party Ville played three new songs on acoustic guitar - Under The Rose, *one title I forgot ;) *  and Have No Fear. I wonder, what it was?
For my name is sorrow and I'm a friend of misery
I deprived myself of love for eternal agony
And I don't even dare to try - I know I can only lose
Between this life I live and nothing I have to choose

I always thought those song titles sounded bad and rather cliche. They remind(ed) me of something someone trying to sound like HIM would come up with... So I for one was glad about them not making it onto the final track listing.

Ville played three new songs on acoustic guitar - Under The Rose, *one title I forgot ;) *  and Have No Fear.

The one you forgot was The Face Of God, I believe.

I remember that initial tracklist. I too wondered where did those tracks go. Maybe we'll find out some day. Anyway, does anyone have "Have No Fear"? Or at least the lyrics, I'm very curious about that song.

Remember the old Metal Hammer sampler with The Sacrament on it under a different name?  It's really weird how titles change so much from only a matter of weeks before a release.

most of him's song titles are cliche for themselves to begin with.

If I remember right, Ville said in Ruisrock 2005-interview Dark Light's original title was In The Nightside of Eden, but they changed it to Dark Light because In The Nightside of Eden is hard to say in Japan.

But well, those demo names sounds cool.

also valo has that thing with opposites. and maybe in the nightside of eden didn't fully capture that idea

someone have this 3 songs???

They were only played in a Private Party for a friend of his.
They were the early versions of those songs.

As for the tracklisting, it is true.
The EPK that was floating around (on the W.O.A.B. and Making Of..) had a small Studio of the band and it did show that tracklist.

To prove that album was a potential fuck up ....
even Pornstars promote it to this day.
;)

I would post more, but after that she removes the shirt, so she isn't promoting after that.

and all those songs that are 'demo' names... nope, they were just names of 'works in Progress' nothing to do with any partys or anything...
even daedalus said before...
just working titles that were even published in magazines

It's identical to the album version. You know, thinking about it, perhaps "Have No Fear" was a working title for a song that ended up becoming "Kiss of Dawn"? Ville tends to keep lyrics for years and reuse them or bring them out when he needs them. Perhaps the part of KOD with "death frees from the fear of dying it's true, have no fear" was originally written with some of the Dark Light stuff.

kiss of dawn actually sounds very much like a dark night song... especially the chorus

Haha, that was not the reason AT ALL!
The reason for not naming the album that is because they didnt want to go thru that satanic crap again, because the title could be misunderstood. Here`s one interview where he talks about it:
