Author Topic: The Path...Underated....anyone elses favorite song? (Read 3957 times)

I find it hard to beleive this song isnt touted as one of the greatest songs the band has written. The first time I heard this song I was moved like I rarely am by music. The dynamics, the build up, how personal the lyrics come off. This song is EPIC, and Im just suprised to see, at least from point of view, that this song gets kinda lost in the shuffle. Slower songs like "Join Me" and Bury Me Deep..." seem to get more respect. Maybe its just me. Anyone else feel the same?

Both "The Path" and "The Path (P.S. Version) are very good songs, but still not HIM's best. The Path shouldn't be so underrated, there are weaker songs, maybe because it's so long and people are used to short songs or maybe they just don't like it.

i can see that. But to me Love Metal is a FLAWLESS album. And The Path is like the grand finale of that album. It all just flows for me.

The Path is a great song, but me personally i like the feel of it, but i would much rather listen to funeral of hearts more, but dont think that i am putting the path down. It is still an amazing song, but like previously said, it may be too long for some to listen to.

The Path = Beautiful Song... maybe it's not commercial song but this is one of the best HIM songs in Love Metal era ... Beautiful Lyric, Beautiful Music... this song is only for Gods...

The path's definately a special song. Nice intro, good lyrics and a perfect ending for the album.

And it's just the same as with every "special" song: When you listen to it on a loop it becomes kinda ordinary.

It's just like sex,...the right time...right place and stuff.

i think the path is a great song, and especially like the p.s. version. it is very well put together both musically and vocally...not their best song. but still very underrated. come to think of it, i can't really say what is HIM's BEST song...there's to many good ones, and so many different styles over the years.

You make a lot of sense with the right mood, right moment theory. That happend to be the case for me. I can hear some songs 70 times and think they are just...eh, buut sometimes, right setting right mood, they are brilliant. The Path was just that for me. They played it live in NYC Nov of 04, wish i could get a bootleg

I wouldn't say flawless.. The only thing about it, is that it might have needed a couple more songs.. But the songs on there were flawless

I agree that its a flawless album, great length, and they even put Loves Requiem which makes it even better and longer, I like the fact it starts with a fast song like buried alive by love, the ends on such a soft one. The path is amazing, great solo also.

If I had too chose a song that closest to my heart is must be The Path!
I love everything about it, the lyrics, Ville's voice, the guitars, the intro and yeah

"The Path" is the perfect (and epic) ending for the masterpiece that is 'Love Metal' (although "Love's Requiem" can fulfil this too...).
It has that Gothic feeling that HIM can show without being too emotional (sounding fake, like many bands in the genre) in a perfect symbiosis with the deep and many times hard to completely absorb which has been a growing element in HIM's lyrics since the very album in which 'The Path' appears.

Musically it shows a more atmospheric side of HIM that I personally enjoy. It reminds me (the mood, not exactly the music) the first album by the band and that is always something remarkable.
