The riffs are both fast and consist of a similar note pattern, but aside from that I don't think they sound alike at all.

I do think that parts of Venus Doom sound exactly like a Cathedral song, specifically the beginning.

Wha tI was referring to was the main riffrometoope, and the riff on DLL right before he says "dead lover's lane..."
