How did Ville avoid conscription in Finland?
« on: April 17, 2007, 02:57:40 PM »
As I sit here a curious thought has occured to me - can't remember how it started - but as you probably know they still have conscription in Finland - Mige did his national service - so does anyone know how Ville avoided doing his? Perhaps this would explain his close 'friendship' with Bam and his recent holiday in Lapland with his 'bodyguard'.  A bodyguard in Helsinki would be funny enough - whilst I have been here for the past two months I haven't seen so much as a heated argument on a Saturday night - but a bodyguard in Lapland is just too ridiculous - there are more reindeer than people !!

Anyone have any answers?  ::)

maybe it could have something to do with he was employed fulltime in his father's sex shop.
Not saying i know anything about how the Finnish run their government, but just a thought.

Come on, Ville weights 100 pounds soaking wet.  Plus, he has asthma, which may disqualify him...I'm guessing.  Or maybe he was just never selected.

Plus, they probably thought he was a harmasexha; and nobody wants them in their army.  They'd be the first ones shot due to their decorative helmets.

Hmm, if you don't go to the army you have to work for the goverment by doing some sort of social service, and you have to do it for free. I think you get some what 4€ a day or something. The sum comes from the old days, you would get so much money a day so you could buy a pack of smokes, in Finland that's 4€.

I read somewhere it was because of his asthma.

Hate to reply to a thread this old but...

There's really no need for guessing here, since Ville has stated himself that he avoided his military service for health-related reasons (i.e. his asthma). I believe he was put into the so-called "C" category, meaning he's exempt from conscription "in time of peace". Besides, it almost seems like a common trend for musicians to avoid their time in the army, so in that sense it's not weird at all.

Wasn't the whole bodyguard thing bs anyway?

I am sure that he couldn't because of asthma. It was the reason why my friend was disqualified.

You'd like to think that, but I guarantee there are nations that don't give a flyin' fuck about your asthma and will make you go out and fight. For your right. To party.
