Yeah, sort of. I would say it started with their debut album Bump & Grind, but still they were more 80's glam-rock.

im not a big fan but can someone answer this question they have two lead singers right becaus in wasting the dawn the singer has a higher voice than the really deap lead singer on the rest of the songs like framed in blood

They have one singer, and there are backgroundsingers.
For example, Ville did backing vocals in a couple of songs (I though at least 12 songs)

They sound alright from what i've heard, though the only song I really like is Lost Boys but i do like the lyrics to Stolen Season, I was kinda dissapointed with the actual song though :(

But in reality, Stolen Season isnt really "that" Live.
Because they dont really play the (Synth) Drums in that part nor the Keyboards or the Third Guitar.
All are pre-recorded. Jussi just walks around on stage until his turn comes to do the double beat on the Drums and thats it.

They have worked their ass off to get some new upcoming bands for their label, one that I assure you will Love a Band called VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theathre). So if you dont want to be Gay* check that band out and also know their Bio, that is an actual Musician.

I am just starting to love this band. I love songs like Next Stop Paradise, Wasting the Dawn, Lost Boys, Stolen Season, Sister of Charity, and Dance D'amour (not that that really matters), but does anybody have any recommendations on the first album I should buy from them?

I'd say Framed In Blood. It's a greatest hits album. Then you can decide which album you want next from there, older vs. new. Most people like their newer stuff better though.

Maybe Ville could have influenced the change in their music?
Ville started doing backing vocals on Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams and even wanted to co-produce the album but he didn't have time. Followed by Wasting The Dawn to the rest of their albums.
Although some of their previous albums do have a hint of gothic style, like the song "Velvet Touch" from Savage Garden.

I totally agree with you Tauriainen on two points:
1. About the worst thing you could do being the singles, granted i recommended "framed" for an overview, but i think one of the worst things you could do would be to limit yourself solely to songs that have only been released as singles.
2. and on the point at looking/listening to the bands influences, in creating being more open to sounds. It just makes sense and really doesn't need anymore explanation than "to see where you are now, see where you were."

Ok, I think The 69 Eyes MIGHT have a new label to release them if they have a problem with 456 Entertainment after their Devils premiere here.
Because I just found out through Jon Crosby (from VAST). That he has been getting ripped off the label for a long time now. They lacked to pay him for his year's service sell of his own album and promotion.
He has now decided to depart from 456 to continue with his own label 2Blossom.

Do what I do. Report yourself to an immigration office and tell them you are an immigrant, they deport you to Mexico than once you see the Gig you tell the Patrol that you are an American Citizen than they let you back in. Pretty much you get a free trip to Mexico. :P

Yeah, there is the 456 Ent. Logo than when you open it it has the Laser Disk burnt name of Devils than on the bottom The 69 Eyes in their Font and the copyrights of Finland.

Lost Boys has not been mentioned at all of even being released since they want to make sure sales go through first before any further plans take actions.

The Shirt has been released here in America. It can be found in certain retail goth shops that sell cd's. I saw them in Vinyl Fetish (the Music Store) in Highland. I was surprised that they had their (Finnish Goth/ Metal) section. So now I dont have a problem getting much spinerecords material as well as more century media stuff from them. I dont need to go to San Diego to the Label to see whats new there.

I figured it would be hard to find at first i know that fye, best buy, and hot topic carry it here. You might try one of those three. I got mine at best buy and i live in Indiana, and they had multiple copies. I can't imagine it would be that hard to find, if sompleace here has it, unless you live in like wyoming or something.

I also got the import copy of Devils for only $10 after shipping too! - Hey Jyrki, glad to be talking to you again. Tell us about the Scandinavian tour. Guess you finally have time to relax for a few days.
- Relax? What’s that? I wanna stay hard all night long, ha-ha…I’m hyperactive, I never relax…Anyways, back to the January, we played a short Finnish tour - it was really nice to see our fans and friends again and Finland’s beautiful snowy countryside. The set we played really represents The 69 Eyes as we have in right now, we also added a cover to the end of our set: Zodiac Mindwarp & the Love Reaction’s “Prime Mover”. Sweden and Denmark were really cool to play, we never played outside of Stockholm before, so it was really cool! The show we played in Gothenburg’s Sticky Fingers is one of my favorite 69 Eyes shows ever. Sweden fucking rocks, man – we’ve always thought Stockholm to our second home town, also there’s so fucking cool bands and friends like Gemini Five, Maryslim and naturally our video and party babes Nocturnal Models (http://www.nocturnalmodels.com/)! A dark shadow of sudden passing of the late Dave from CrashDïet was cast on this part of the tour; we dedicated “Wasting The Dawn” for him at Sticky Fingers, RIP.
- During our interview at Athens Terra Vibe gig you mentioned that the title of the new album is going to be “Angels”. You did mention that again yesterday by email. Is this pre-decided and why? Is there a specific concept behind it, as a contrast to Devils, and can u tell us a little bit more about your idea?
- It’s going to be called ANGELS. It’s about City of Angels, glamour, decadence, sex & passion and rock’n’roll…maybe some new stuff will be written on the road in the States as well…Think about a long legged bitch in high heels and short daisy dukes walking on the sidewalk as a jet black limo drives on by and I pull a window down from my backseat – that’s when the music starts…
- Should we expect the use of …“white” for Angels, opposed to your usual black clothing and dark imagery (as in Devils)? Do you plan to reveal a more “innocent” side of The Eyes? Heh?

- We wanted to step away from these other young, H&M gothic bands as we did “Paris Kills” and suddenly everybody was using a lot of synths after that, ha-ha…and later so many American Goth-punk-alternative bands looked so much like us back then, that’s so funny, but also really cool…I think we’re turning into this hard rocking Gothic biker rock band as the years go by (notice: I didn’t say “ as we age”, since Helsinki Vampires don’t age, ha-ha..), something like Circus Of Power meets Ministry and Johnny Cash…as our audience starts to be more like tattooed women with Bettie Page fetish …
- There has been a minority of music Media here in Greece that simply didn’t and don’t get what The 69 Eyes are about. Some said that what you do is retro and has been done before. What do you have to say to those who compare The Eyes to older bands of the genre?

They had 4 or 5 different shirts, signed drumheads, and a small poster. Probably more shit, too. Prices were long shirts/$30, tee-shirts/$15 and the drumhead was $20.

That never happens, I prefered "Program the Dead" to the second band "Demone" but still it was refreshing to see some actual talent for openers. Oh and Nico and Matt from Program are my new favorite people! :)

Timo Timo!!!!!!! Is my new fave person. That gig was freaking amazing! And the merch was pretty nice. There wasn't a shopping mall's worth of stuff, but I got a cool shirt.

Dude, by the end of next week I will have about 100 pictures up, including the pictures of my swag I got such as Jussi's broken drum stick, A part of Jussi's drum signed, Pittsburgh and Cleveland set lists (Signed), my picture with them and some with the openers, and hopefully I will get time to upload my video of standing at the backdoor filming some of the openers dancng around while The 69 Eyes did their sound check.

I just got in from Detroit (7 hour drive) and, of course, The 69 Eyes rocked. I took 227 pictures and got about 6 or 7 short videos. Everything went amazing. Here's some quick highlights:
-Got to say hello to as each member of the band walked from their bus into the venue.
-Jyrki came back out and I got my picture taken with him and he gave out pins/postcards.
-The band sounded amazing during their soundcheck, and during it they played "TV Eye" which was great.
-Caught a Jussi drumstick, and another half of one.
-Got The 69 Eyes setlist
-High fives from Jyrki at the end of the show

OK heres my rundown of the Millvale/Pittsburgh & Cleveland shows.
March 8th, 2006: I woke up as usual, but instead of going to school I was skipping. I got to the venue around 9:00am and slept in my car until Noon-ish. At 1:00 the tour bus pulls up and all the tech guys and Dan, the tour manager. They acknowledged me and I said hello back. At the front of Mr Smalls at the top of the stairs, I looked down at the tour bus and saw Jussi’s shoes while he sat and smoked. The bus moved to the other side of the venue, and I went to wait at the front of the line. Eventually other fans arrived and we went inside of the Basement of Mr Small’s recording studios/office and hung out. Eventually the tour manager came in and we conversed in general, not even about the tour or The 69 Eyes. I found out the guy is Swedish and plays in the band H20 and usually manages for Scandinavian bands touring in the US. We asked him if we could get a personal meet and greet with the band, but he said after the show. The highlight before a lot of other people showed up was sitting outside listening to 4 or 5 sound check songs done by The 69 Eyes.
Anyways, waiting in line was fun. I talked to a bunch of cool fans, and took some group pictures with the first people in line. Eventually the venue’s doors open and we filed in. I’m Front and center, as usual. Program the Dead took the stage, they were pretty cool. Their drummer was very intense and busted his face open with one of his drum sticks. After their set, the Damones were setting up on stage. Noelle came over and greeted the fans up front. She was very nice. Anyways their set was awesome also. It was kinda weird because during a break inbetween songs, the bassist came over to where I was and made out with the girl I was hanging out with in line. No one knew what the fuck was going on.
The 69 Eyes took the stage and oh my, they rocked and had one of the best stage shows of any band I’ve ever seen. Their set list was:

After the show I met the guys from the band, all except Jussi, and got a copy of the set list signed. I also hung out with the other guys from the opening bands. God Noelle is soo nice! Anyways I told Dan and Noelle I’d be at the Cleveland show the next day and if they needed anything, they’d just have to find me.
March 9th, 2006
I woke up and just jumped in my car and drove off to Cleveland. The fucking Agora…I walked up to the place with bad memories from the HIM show (security there are complete asses for the most part). I walk inside and find that I am the 3rd person in line, w00t! I asked those upfront to save my place while I went to the backstage door to see if dan was there. I went outside and found two more really cool fans waiting to see an appearance of Jussi. Jyrki was the only member we saw for about an hour and he was carrying stuff back and forth from the bus. Eventuall we saw Jussi come out and I got a picture with him, because I missed my opportunity the other night. The other bands showed up also. Noelle was very happy and surprised to see me. Anyway, we got to listen to the 69 eyes sound check and I filmed from the back parking lot to capture the audio and video of the drummer of Program the dead dancing to the music. After the sound check Dan came outside and asked me if I wouldn’t mind running to Starbucks to get him and Jussi coffee. SWEET! I took off with the two other fans from the backdoor area and got Jussi and Dna’s coffee. Dan gave me his cell number to call him when we got back, so he’s come to the back door. I called him and he still didn’t come out, so Noelle told me to come inside and walk downstairs to The 69 Eyes dressing room. Dan was very appreciative for my favor I did for him, except Jussi wasn’t around for his coffee (well actually latte), he was across the street at the Adult Rehabilitation center supposedly getting some lunch (haha). Dan put us on the guest list and we headed back to the line. The line was VERY small, even at doors, there were less than 60 people. Anywas, got inside the venue, and once again stood right there up against the stage. The openers put on a fair show, not as good as at Smalls, but its probably just because the acoustics of the venue. The 69 Eyes came out, and it was awesome once again, They did the same set list, except they played an third song for the encore which wasn’t on the set list (I forget what it was). But anywas I got an honorable mention up on stage right before the guys did their encore. When the 1st left the stage everyone cheered one more song, then two more songs, and then three more songs, then it got qiuet and everyone was yelling requests such as Stigmata and From Dusk til Dawn and I yelled FREEBIRD! When they came back Jyrki said “This next song, you may know it by Freebird” and looked at me, along with just about every other person around me (they laughed). After the encore, I caught a broken drumstick, plus smaller pieces of it (which is gave away to the kids behind me).After most of the audience filed out of the ballroom, I went to go see Dan to see what was up with a meet and greet and thank him for everything. I also got my picture up on stage, w00t! Once again some of the guys came out for a meet and greet and I got my set list signed again and took some pictures. I saw Noelle with some female fans and I sat next to her and said my good byes, and headed home.
The whole experience was awesome, especially since I got a signed drum head by Jussi. I hope to stay in contact with dan and keep and in with the band and such.

Oh yeh i forgot to add I almost got hit with the mic stand ever time Jyrki picked it up and spun around, and I did get bumped in the back of the head with Timo's guitar when I turned around to get my picture right infront of the stage

A while back someone ripped the LB soundtrack and labelled it incorrectly. This "sisters of mercy" song done the rounds on P2P networks and for some reason the accidental labelling of The Sisters Of Mercy as the artists stuck.

the 69 eyes tend to frown upon being recorded live :'(, +1 for the effort can't wait to see/hear it :) try amazon love metal if not, i'd recomend ebay, usually they're not too expensive just look for a seller with a good feedback %

When I was waiting in line outside, Program the Dead pulled up and right away the drummer came out screaming "Who wants bread!? Who wants bread!?" He ran around like a pyscho throwing a loaf around and shoving full pieces of bread in his mouth.
Then, the singer walked by and said to us that one of them pissed on the floor of their van. Sure enough, later, they came out of the club with paper towel and were mopping up their piss from the floor of their van.

That drummer is crazy! He was dancing like mad durring the 69 Eyes sound check, making all of the members from his band, the damones, and some of the crew people and I crack out laughing. He also messed up his face at the pittsburgh show and was acting like the blood running down his face is nothing, though it was a nice flow

Indeed I did film thy whole show, had to change tapes once. But luckly it was during the break. Anyway, I am putting it onto data disks considering yousendit or megaupload does not work on my computer, so I will probably send one to Fro if he does not mind to upload and what not.

That would be great to see a video and or audio of that show. I was at the Minneapolis show and it was awesome. I didn't really expect it to be good for some reason but it was one of the better shows I've been to. They even did TV Eye.

Yeah, the show will not air the night of the taping. The Eyes appearance will air the following Friday, March 31st at 1:35am on NBC.

Alright i just got back from seeing them from their SF show here is my review.
Overall they kicked ass. They have a ton of energy and Jussi is nuts! Great live band, BUT the show itself wasn't very fun. The whole audience just stood there and sang. BORING. Im used to having pits and headbanging at shows. I know 69 eyes isn't that type of music but still i was a little dissapointed. Another thing was that there were so many kids there with their parents wearing their newly bought hot topic HIM shirt. Whatever.
I did end up meeting the bass player and i had a brief talk with jyrki about his t-shirt he had on. Id give the whole night a 6.5/10.

hey for all tid i read your review and i must say something to this.
i think the kind of music that the eyes made is not the real music for the west coast of the us. i mean there always sun, hot and so on.
the didn t understand or how i like to say the can t feel this kind of music. the eyes are finns and there a always cold, dark, much of snow and so. they think other as the people of there. they love the dark, the mystics, the melancolic. they are super stars here in finland. they can play 7 days a week in the tavastia clubi and be sure it s to 100% sold out.
thats my opinion.

There was an interview with Jyrki yesterday on Finnish radio YleX.
Mainly about the US tour and how well he thought it turned out. He also mentioned they'd be back after work on the new album and summer festivals.
There was some cool news about the Whiskey a GoGo gig, it'll be recorded and released on DVD!

Hey guys, just got back from Hollywood, and let me say, I'm happy to be alive.
First off, we weren't fortunate enough to get into Carson. We arrived a little too late, and were at the back of the line, and so we didn't get in. But, oh well.
The next day, Kayla and I met up with Kara! We were thrilled to meet her for the first time,(since she is our wifey!) and when we did, it was awesome.
Shortly after our meeting, we had gone to get ready, and we all walked to the Whiskey. By then, it was probably about 5:30. I swear, you would think we were going to a HIM concert there were so many kids wearing HIM shirts!
The line grew and grew, and around 7, when the doors were supposed to open, Jyrki and Bazie walked out! I had also just met Jo, aka Mama Trash, so I was already excited!
The guys had come out, I'm guessing, to get some shots of them for a DVD that was being done(and they had taken no hault in getting me and my girls in the shots. bleh. how rude). I was one of the annoying little girls, and ran out to grab a picture of them before they left. And I did!
The guys had all randomly walked back to their hotel, leaving us waiting anxious for the doors to open. When they finally did, we got in safely and made our way to the front.
Overall, the first two opening bands were good. I didn't care too much for Damone, but Program the Dead...their stage performance was exhilerating!
Finally, Bam Margera had walked down the stairs onto the stage, and everyone was screaming. He openly stated that they were filming for a DVD, and then introduced the 69 Eyes. Within seconds, Bam was gone(luckily) and Jyrki, Timo Timo, Bazie, Archzie, and Jussi were on their way onto the stage. Everyone went INSANE! I was forced against the guy in front of me, and let me just say...that had to have been the most painful nights of my life. *laughs*
Well, back to the show. They played a great set, and their energy was flawless. I was just thrilled I got to see Jussi! Watching him play is like watching the most beautiful sunset. It's so fixating and hard to take your eyes off of!
By the end of the show, we were all pretty worn down. The audience took no heed in being impolite and rude, so I was pretty aggrivated as well.
The night soon came to it's hault(not stop, just hault) and we went back to the hotel for a few minutes. I changed my shirt and fixed my wet hair and make-up, and within 20 minutes, my mom, Kara, Kayla, and I were standing in front of the Rainbow room. Now, since we're only 17, we were pretty astonished that we got in! When we got in, we weren't sure where to go, what to do, etc. etc. so we stood around, basically in awe that we were in the Rainbow Room. We saw Ben Graves and Eric Griffin a few times as well, which was pretty neat. We met up with Jo a few times, and around 2:00, we were getting ready to leave.
Now, let me state...my mother had already drank about 5 Long Islands, so she was kind of ditzed.
As we were getting ready to leave, we saw Bazie wander out of one of the 21+ rooms, and soon enough, Jussi too!
We stopped him, got a picture with him, and he signed mine and Kara's boobs, "Jussi's Bitch". He was soooo sweet, and I felt so bad for disturbing him in his time of pre-drunken "bliss".
Finally though, we left. Kind of...on our way out, we met some drunken/high guy who saw Kara getting signed, and he wanted to sign as well! He signed her, "Your sweet" and then my chest, opposite of Jussi's signature, "Pretti Things Die Hard" and then he signed Kayla's tummy he wrote, "I'm Your little sweetheart". It was funny...so anyway, we finally got out, and we were standing around outside. I had NO idea we were standing right next to Jyrki, and then Archzie was right next to us as well. Kara and I got signed by him as well, and then...things took a turn for the awkward.
My mother stepped in, and started "talking" to him. Soon enough, I look over and see he's cupping her face! haha. He kissed my mother like, 5 times. We got a picture of it, which I love.
Then, she was bound and determined to get Jyrki and Bazie, but everytime we pointed to Bazie, who was right next to us, she said, "no! That's not him!" So I pointed to Jussi and said, "Got get him for me!" And she kind of did.................haha. But I think he got scared of her and her drunkenness, which I don't blame him.
We left back to the hotel, and I was really disgruntled that we were so tired. I was hoping we'd be able to stay up and drink, but the exhaustion swept through us like air.
We all said goodnight, and in a very little amount of time, we were dead asleep.
All in all, it was a great night. Except the part I got basically killed and passed out. Haha. But it was a great show, and great party afterwards!

hmmm...i wonder why i didnt see you? eh...i was super drunk. my night was good. i didnt get a chance to meet Jyrki *sniff* he did walk by me and so did bam looking like a wanna be ville...yeah, hes lame. the show kicked ass! went to the rainbow, met bazie and talked to him for a bit and wanted to meet jussi but i was drunk and didnt feel like pushing my way through the girls that were all over him...i got some pics but keep in mind i was drunk so theyre not that great! i'll post them in a little bit.

i like Jyrki alot more now since the SF show because he had a Darkthrone shirt. Tr00 Norwegian black metal!!!!. We even had a chat about them. Also Archzie because id yell slayer when he walked by me a couple times in line and he just laughed and gave me metal horns. :)

I just purchased the Helsinki Vampires DVD. Its about time they released this in the USA. A word of caution to anyone considering purchasing this- after reading a review on amazon and searching the web, i called cleopatra Records (http://www.cleorecs.com/contact.cfm) - there are a considerable # of these dvds that are defective so if you get it, hang on to the receipt till you've tried it out. I got mine at Best Buy after trying it out in the store. The Interview selection on mine doesn't work but everything else plays. Also the gentlemen from the record company said to keep an eye out for their older albums in the near future. ;D

The first signed edition of 1,000 was immediately sold out from the publisher but the new regular edition is on its way. Meanwhile, Ville Juurikkala's two-year photographic journey with THE 69 EYES, called "Route 69", will come out in October. Jyrki has also been writing comments from the road for the book. It will be published by Like.

This dosen't really feel like 69 Eyes to me. The video sort of sucks, well ok some parts are good with that vampire-chick. But hey! Where are the sunglasses???? The song just feels like some 80's band, when I think about it, it actually reminds me of the Darkness - one way ticket to heaven. Guess it's just me whoes a bit wierd :P
I want that old spooky and gothic music from Wasting the Dawn, Blessed be and Paris Kills... hope there are some new good songs on this new album... Otherwise it will be a downfall with the last Devils album that was a bit 50/50

Oddly enough, the pictures I took with Timo Timo and Bazie didn't come out. That was long before Jyrki brought up the vampire thing though.
I was in Cleveland on Wednesday. My friend and I spent a lot of time talking to Bazie, and he was telling us all kinds of weird stuff. Things about the special edition version of the album (just a bonus DVD, no B-sides), how they're on a schedual that doesn't allow them to pick up groupies, and how Devils will be rereleased on the US with bonus tracks and the original cover because 456 Entertainment went bankrupt.
We were the last people out of the club, and gave Jyrki what was probably his last fan-goodbye. Timo Timo slipped out on me though. It's a shame too, because I really enjoyed talking to him last March. I had them sign my Framed In Blood booket. Last year they got my Japanese lyric inlay that came with the Jap import of Devils. Timo Timo had no idea what it was, so I had to explain it to them.

I mentioned that a long time ago.
Ever since they fucked VAST over when releasing the album NUDE, Jon Crosby hinted that. The people who were in that label lost about a million in those projects. So in order to pay back they had to file for bankruptcy chapter 11 with no ends of paying full price back.

On another note I picked up some of the rereleases lastnight and OMG Savage Garden's insert is so amazing to look at, mainly because Jussi looks nothing like he does now. He's straight out of the 80s in those pictures. Also, as usual Timo-Timo has a diffrent look for every album and for SG he had long and skinny braided dreadlock things.

The three remixes are Lay Down Your Arms, Wasting The Dawn, and Next Stop Paradise. According to the booklet, they were done in 2003 by T.T. Oksala. They all sound pretty much the same as the originals, however on WTD, it sounds like Ville's backing vocals are louder, and you can distinctly hear him through most of the song.

All the US releases of the albums dating before Devils have bonus tracks "exculsive" to the US. Those bonus tracks are just b-sides and remixes from singles. Once Devils is rereleased, it too will have Pitchblack and From Dusk Til Dawn

I'm really pissed. I was going to go to the Dallas show next Thursday, but they just changed my schedule at work, and I have to work Noon till 8:30. Grrr. The cover artwork for the new THE 69 EYES album, "Angels", has been posted online at this location. Due in Finland on March 5 via Virgin/EMI, the CD was produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa and Johnny Lee Michaels — the same team that was responsible for 2004's "Devils". The video for the album's first single, "Perfect Skin", was directed by Ralf Strathmann and was filmed in Hollywood in mid-October 2006. You can watch the clip here. The additional tracks on the single are live versions of "Devils", "Christina Death" and "I Just Want to Have Something to Do" (originally by THE RAMONES) recorded at Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood in March 2006.

I think the "Special" edition is the only release of the disk. It maybe an actual special editon, where the first few thousand copies only, or it maybe all of the copies made period.

The Promo has, which is 5 tracks. The Album is another story, that is what was handed from the Management to the Label.
I don't know the real deal between the delay of the single being announced/ released to the album being under the Mastering stages.

There are two promos.
one that goes to the radio station and one that went to the media press.
I heard that Ghost was played in Finland, if anyone can confirm that it means that a full promo was released.
I got the Red Vinyl for 14 dollars from someone in Arizona on ebay.

When I said it was played, I never said Leaked. One thing is to have it played (for example that GNR's track Better which has been played in the radio for the last couple of hours) without permission, another is to have a track played after it has officially been released by a Label.
No, it has not been leaked into the net. :)

Review
Rating: 6/10
Angels: First thing I notice is Jyrki's voice sounds slightly different to what I'm/we're used to, nevertheless, quite a good opener. Music is nice and heavy, sounds very good turned up, some of the lyrics are a bit dodgy but then again it is the Eyes so I guess we've come to expect that. Very good sequel song to Devils. Drums sound fantastic too.
Never Say Die: Intro to the song sounds very promising, also Jyrki's voice seems to have gone back to normal, or maybe I've just got used to whatever effect has been used on it. Lyrics are quite good, obviously there's the usual childish rhymes, "night/light" "dreaming/meaning" but again, we expect it. Chorus sounds great this is a very good song.
Rocker: Another heavy guitar driven intro... hopefully this won't get too samey. Rocker is an ok song until the awful chorus kicks in, "I'm a rocker/A goddamn rocker." Maybe Jyrki was stuck for ideas but surely anyone can think up something a tad better than that. It's a shame they chose this song to follow Never Say Die. Would've been nice to stick a slower one as this track to add a bit of variety, distorted guitar is good, but something's need to be taken in moderation. It's also a shame that a throwaway track like this follows what could be the album's highlight.
Ghost: Intro sounds wonderful, very moody, but then those guitars come back, just as I thought we were about to get a nice moody synth/piano track. The verse sounds good and the chorus is wonderfully melodic, nice strings and the backing vocalists really compliment the song. This is a very good song, I'm glad they put this after Rocker because it has definitely saved the first half of the album. The strings outro sounds great.
Perfect Skin: Must admit the lyrics to this song are awful. "Perfect skin/Devil's grin"... ::) I guess any hopes of having a varied guitar style on this album are gone, the heavy/distorted ones are hear to stay by the looks of it. This song is perfect for the US market. The song can be plugged as a gothic because of lyrics such as "devil/sin/burn" (but it's timidness will avoid any attention from the censorship groups) and Jyrki also lists celebrities! Perfect for all the g0ff kids and radio.
Wings & Hearts: Another great intro from the Eyes, this album has many. Lyrics are simple but quite effective, this is a good goth/pop song. Unfortunately the chorus fails to deliver, the beginning of the song gradually builds up, but then the chorus seems to go backwards instead of rocketing away. Then we're back to square one with "Hey, hey baby." The strings sound very nice and the guitar solo is fantastic despite being a bit short. Outro is quite moody and pounding, nice way to finish the first half of the album.
Star Of Fate: The 69 Eyes have some excellent melodically melancholic slow numbers. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Sounds like a Disney song to me. The song picks up around the 1:40min mark. The bass sounds really nice and the change in guitar is very welcome. The song has slightly redeemed itself, but the lyrics are so awful that this song really does nothing for me despite the nice instrumental.
Los Angeles: Hopefully the Eyes have picked a proper good song to follow the snorer that was Star of Fate. Well, it's certainly a fast one, so the contrast between slow and fast is welcome but expected. Not really sure what to make of this song, it is good but it sounds like the tempo could be a tad slower, sounds like the band just want to get through it as quickly as possible. Again, like most of the songs it has a catchy chorus but it's almost impossible to decipher what Jyrki is saying, there could actually be some lyrical gems in here but because of the speed we won't know until the lyrics are published... although I doubt it.
In My Name: Nice to have a medium paced song after LA. This song is sounding quite good, the piano is nice, it's a shame they didn't bring it more to the front. The "whoa's" are fun :D.
Shadow Of Your Love: "Whoa" appears to be one of Jyrki's favourite words, two songs in a row?... ::) Another good rock song, bass sounds great and Jyrki seems to be experimenting with his vocals. Could've stuck this in the place of Rocker and put Rocker somewhere else... e.g. not on the CD.
Frankenhooker: Some bands try to leave a lasting impression and go all out on the album closer but the Eyes continue with the heavy guitars, the "woah's" and the EXTREMELY dodgy lyrics. Is Jyrki saying "Hairy ass/got no cash" ??? I hope I'm wrong! The use of "You suck!" is extremely childish. I know the Eyes aren't the most serious of bands but this is stupid, it's not WWF :-\
I think this is a very mediocre album from The 69 Eyes. There are some good songs on it but unfortunately that's all they are, good. Who knows, maybe this is a grower? But it's a real shame seeing as Devils grabbed me instantly with such great tracks like Sister of Charity and Hevioso.
It seems Jyrki was a bit stuck for ideas what with the overuse of "whoa" and the awful "You suck!" lyrics. Perhaps the band were a bit stuck too what with the same old "medium paced strings into heavy guitars" intros.
Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come...

I was quite dissapointed in Angels too. None of the songs did anything for me at all. I thought it COULD be because my first cd was "The very blessed of the 69 eyes" soo maybe i was expecting too much, but apparently im not the only one that was kinda let down by it :-\

I got mine last week. I still like the 69 eyes but I was very disappointed with this album. Never Say Die and the remake of Wrap your troubles in dreams were the only good songs :( Kinda sounded like the record company rushed and influenced them.

i just got the Helsinki Vampires DVD at best buy it was like 14 bucks. It's pretty awsome cuz i don't have anything before devils and angels. The live stuff at tavastia is great but their videos and everything else kinda suck.

i liked the angels album i got it early from i tunes it didn't come with wrap your troubles in dreams though. i think angels and devils fit well together my fav track is ''wings and hearts'' and i love frankinhooker reminds me of the old days :) - just hear wrap your troubles in dreams 2007 they should have kept the same female vocals as the original that gall had balls! and the new intro sounds MIDI

The next single release from Angels will be a gothic masterpiece "Ghost" featuring Apocalyptica. The CD single will also include "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams" (2007 version) and the video of "Never Say Die".
Hopefully there's a video in the works for one of the best songs on the album.

Anyone else pick up the Angels/Devils double pack? Nothing special, but From Dusk Till Dawn and Pitchblack are included on the Devils disc. The bonus DVD is basically the one that came with the Euro version of Angels. It's worth it for the 20 bucks if you don't have the albums yet.

Then I started to like they a lot! I still enjoy their songs but nowadays they
are very different...

this album granted good, better than i thought it would be. it was a fast album to get into. the dead girls are easy music video ruins the song for me though. bam need to stop puting friends and family in his music videos. but the album is somthing for anyone to check out. im planning on buying the special edition when it comes out. they progressed better than other bands would with trying out new stuff.

I feel quite the opposite about the new CD. It is such a let down in so many ways and that saddens me. I have been listening to the 69 Eyes for around 10 years, I owned Bump N Grind before having Paris Kills or Blessed Be. I have always said that there is not one CD of theirs I did not love in one form or another (and I am picky and have no problem finding faults). Because of their constantly evolving sound, they always sounded fresh and exciting. If the lyrics were a bit dull, the instrumentals made up for it. And sometimes the music is overly simple but Jyrki's lyrics are beautiful.
X in short overall, just seemed repetitive in the lyrics dept. Nothing really pulled at my heart (shockingly, Red was one of the better songs lyrically). And the music never really took flight like they have done so in the past. A lot of the times, their songs stay calm and safe for the first 1/2 but then just hit you with WOW. Didn't get that with X.
I've listened to it 3 times. Nothing has changed for me in those listens. Sometimes you hear a song at first and hate it, then you find something about it that hits a chord and then you find yourself putting it on repeat. X has it all spread out on the table. Nothing really to really dig deep and discover.
ps- this is coming from a reviewer that has his entire back tattooed with 69 eyes imagery. So, when you talk about a hardcore fan, that's me. I'm not just trollin

I personally like X a lot, I think it's waaay better than Back in Blood. X has a lot of good songs (only I'm Ready is pretty average, in my opinion), it's catchy and enjoyable. On the other hand, I have to agree with you concerning the lyrics: they're dull as hell, nothing new or inspired, and most of all nothing comparable to old, classic lyrics on previous albums.
I also think that the overall song structure is a bit repetitive, intro - verse - bridge - chorus and so on. Meh.
Also, the two videos (Red and Borderline) are pure crap!

I totally agree with you. X is not Paris Kills or Blessed Be, but it has its moments - like you said, Love Runs Aways is the highlight, and I also like Black and I Love the Darkness in You (shitty lyrics, but I really enjoy how they used the keyboard). Definiteley falling into a sense of security...do you remember when Valo talked about HIM "losing the sense of mystique"? In my opinion this is also true for the 69 Eyes, they're gradually losing eveything I came to love from them - darkness, gloomy lyrics and, most of all, Jyrki's baritone. Maybe that's because they need to sell records, after all.
What do you think of the duet with Kat von D? Have you heard it?

5 months later standout tracks for me are: Love runs away, red, borderline, If you love me the morning after.
Some of that has to do lyrically with where I am in life. But that's what is great about music. Not to derail, but same goes for HIM. There are songs 5 hears ago I LOVED, and now I can skip over them and vise versa.
Back in Blood they really did take the vamp thing too seriously. I loved that album for the music. It was really nice and heavy.
X: jury is still out. at 1am, it's too late to do some serious thinking. There are just little things to irk me and I will gladly talk more about them after a good night's rest.
There is a reason Kat is a tattoo artist and not a singer. She overpowers Jyrki far too much in the mix. Especially when you consider someone like Ville, who is obviously a much better singer, and his voice only peaks out from behind the music here and there when he guest appeared on Eye's tracks. Kat ruined the song.

Yes, she ruins the song. It's a pity, because it would have been a nice ballad if only sung by someone at least able to sing in tune. Why not sing just the refrain and let Jyrki do the rest of the song?

Nah, Bittersweet was fine. Lauri is a nice contrast to Ville.
Oh and back to 69 Eyes, what sucked most about X for me was that I ordered the signed edition from that fuckin' "give your money to the artists page who's name escapes me"...it took 2 goddamn months to get the thing!

She was in Rosary Blue... I think it was a limited edition song. I thought it was great and, if anything, it was Jyrki who overpowered her vocals... not the other way around. Either way in my opinion it would be equally as hard for any female to sing along with him because his voice is just so damn deep.

I agree that it was disappointing, only a few songs were enjoyable... But IMO they were just too simple. They claimed the songs to be the deepest and best they've done, but I didn't think so. X is more of a sing-along compilation than a legit album IMO.

I am disappointed with the Lost Without Love song or whatever it is. I loved Back in Blood and when X came out I admit I listened once and shelved it. Then months later I dug it out and I can say that I honestly like it minus the Kat Von D song. :-X
But this side project stuff that Jyrki is doing is not my cup of tea. And someone mentioned Dracula's Castle - yeah, not a fan of that one. Honestly, I just feel like everything is a rehash of a vampire movie or horror movie instead of using their own creativity for music. Will be interesting to see what the next album sounds like, whenever that will be.
