Title: Slippery When Dead Demos Remastered
Post by: SIRJARVIS01 on September 11, 2016, 03:44:51 PM
I recently took some time to remaster the HIM Demos from SWD (Renamed them SWD Tapes) and looking to see if anyone is interested in this. I'm new to the forum and just love that I can find so much good stuff here. I'm digging deep to try to find some pro recorded gigs from the year 2007 or 2008 that arent up on the forum, I love the preformances of 07 and 08 it sounds awesome!
Anyway, I have them if anyone wants them

Here's the link I tweaked up the sound best I could using different programs, also added some "record playing noise" between the tracks to give them more of a ToT interlude feel

i did not download , but before i do - what software did you use?

I used a high pass filter on Wavepad, then used a 32 ch graphic eq on Mixcraft pro studio, did the final mastering on iZotope Ozone... I did my best to try to mimic a GLSV666/666 WTL EQ Setting since I think all the albums from that era kind of flow together. I'm trying like hell to find a way to isolate the tracks from the stereo mix. I know there HAS to be a software out there.....my god if I could find one, the possiblities of remastering HIM gigs would be endless! If professional studios have been able to create multitracks FROM old 1960's mono for Guitar Hero, there's GOTTA be a way....hope you enjoy

Thank you SirJarvis, it's a interesting idea to combine the tape-like sound with SWD.

Can you upload "Too Happy To Be Alive", please? To listen the whole "tape".

You got lossless files from someone or you did it with public MP3 320kbps rip?

I'll listen what you did later. Thanks.

I'll check these out on my HD800's and report my audiological findings.

Also, we only have lossy versions of the demos at this point, to answer Kir's question. Not ideal, of course, but they came that way.

The tape sound really kills it for me and the highs are too bright.

Me too.... sorry but the eq is way too bassy and the treble is boosted way too much.

Alright everybody

i saw all the posts and i thought i could use some knowledge and tools

Here is a try , i wanna know - what version do you prefer and if its overall OK for you so i should do the rest of the songs too , or its a complete crap

here is version 1 - apart from everything else the main difference between version 1 and version 2 - still reverbed drums as original   https://www.sendspace.com/file/feybq3 (https://www.sendspace.com/file/feybq3)

version 2 - the same as version 1 but - drums corrected to my ears i hate those reverbed drums, sounds so weird to me  - https://www.sendspace.com/file/1649ng (https://www.sendspace.com/file/1649ng)

opinions, everyone!

So even without any further feedback, i enjoyed trying some various shits and stuff. So i am giving my result here , so you can check it.
NOTE : i dont call this REMASTERED .... its just edited. We dont have a master source, we dont even have a lossless source, not talking about multitrack, just some lossy MC tape transfer - hissy. I did not use any plug in or any filter or something, i did not touch EQ values. I did not wanna touch frequencies that would have changed the sound
I call this just an edit, not remastered or something ,you can call it whatever you like. I saved it in flac, as it was default setting
Feel free to download, compare, listen, judge, comment and give some feedback. Any ideas, tips and discoveries are welcome.

i called it 616 edit MMXVI as i am nicknamed 616 here and its done in 2016 so MMXVI .....

I'm surprised and kind of saddened there wasn't more interest in this.  I will download and sample it tonight. If it's like your previous edit we are in for a treat. Thanks for you efforts in this.

Nice job 616. I thought it sounded very good. There was 1 or 2 tracks that sounded like the vocals needed boosted a little but I doubt that's possible (just suggestion). I thought everything sounded really good. Thanks so much for sharing.

yeah those are like that on the original mp3s as well, i did not want to use any EQ changes and plug ins to change the sound.
When i started my main idea was that there is a MC tape that sounds good , and there we have a transfer that is hissy so my man goal was to keep the sound as the original just to edit it to sound like you put the original tape into your player
