Title: My cover of "Tears on Tape"
Post by: Until_Love_Do_Us_Part on June 30, 2015, 01:09:55 AM
Please understand that this is a demo, and according to the guy running the engineering, there's still about 4-5 more steps left until this track is ready to be assigned on my 1st EP...

Thank you for moving this, I apologize for the inconvenience.

If anyone listens, I would appreciate a bit of feedback.

Some notes seem to be a bit 'forced' like you're trying too hard to match Ville's original vocals. There's also instances where you say lyrics quickly and then slow down shortly after which makes the song flow inconsistently. Do your own thing and don't try so hard to be like the original, once you do that you can work on little things here and there to make them better. Ville's vocal range is absolutely massive so it's not something many others can imitate well.

I agree with Inferno. And if you ask me, you could slightly autotune some of those lines. Remember what i'm saying i don't mean it bad.

i cant agree ..... Ville is an average singer - his vocal range is pretty average - he has a natural deeper voice, but he cant sing properly in it these days and in higher he sounds bad as well. Of course i understand that he is not 20 anymore, but for example massive and hardcore vocal range has Steve Perry, he could be retired for 20 years from singing and in 65 he will sound amazing in whatever range. this is a natural born talented singer.

Ville is an artist, he is a player , he can play multiple instruments and he can also sing. But i think even though he is a singer in the succesful band , he was never a good singer. He is off key most of the times live.....

its not so hard to sing in the Villes original vocal range and key in the song. Its only on the singer how it will sound and it all depends on his voice. Ville has a nice voice, really nice. You can try to do HIM song but with an average voice it will be "not-good" . You must have a specific voice to make a HIM cover to sound interesting.
Its only hard to sing like Ville if you wanna sound like him. But you wont sound like him because you have a different voice

i agree with the rest what Inferno said.

there are my advices - practice falseto, you have been off key most of the times when you tried. NEVER record anything on guitar with worn and used old strings. Brand new strings sounds 1089787487 times better. You must tune your guitar properly. Your guitar sounds flat and not good. It must be properly tuned and recorded in a good acoustic environment. The sound of your guitar must be rich and properly tuned. Never record guitar like this! I have the recordings like this when i do them in my room with nothing on old rusty strings tuned from 2 months ago that the dust is on it.
But what bothered me the most is , and please dont take this badly or offensive, but you sang it very affected. Try to be natural, yourself. Buy 10s phosphor bronze Dunlop strings, tune it properly in the key of your best vocal range, and be yourself, just sit down, relax , breathe and play it and listen to yourself, dont overenjoy it because you will sound affected

never use autotune but rather reverb and multiple vocal tracks in different key in the backround like Ville has it in the recordings......
