Title: HIM Minions
Post by: KissTheVoid on October 08, 2014, 01:34:36 AM
Thread title doesn't really have to do with anything. Honestly, I just think it sounds cool. Anyways.... the social aspect on here seems a little bit dusty. I see lots of potential but almost nobody chatting or getting to know each other. I am new so maybe everyone who would do that has already got together and chat outside the site or something... or maybe use Facebook. Lots of fans on the Facebook pages. But I felt like it was too sporadic, like picking people totally at random and trying to get to know them.

Because it seemed so impersonal on Facebook I came here. For a while now I have been looking for fangirls and boys and not finding any really... I'm tired of people asking my favorite band and then having no clue what I'm talking about... and asking me "Who?" every time I say HIM. Heck, I did it too when I first discovered them but after a while it gets really annoying. If you like to fangirl/fanboy all over the place when it comes to the band you should reply or send me a message and who knows maybe we'll have something else in common?

Most of the people that come here on almost a daily basis have been around since the creation of the page or, at the very least, a few years. We may not talk much about ourselves personally, but it's to be expected from a fan site since we can already guess the things we have in common lol. These forums used to be more lively and more personal back in the day, but the people that helped keep the discussions and banter alive seemed to have moved on... Jerry Lee, ZomB (Betsy), and Jambo are a few that come to mind.

Yeah. I'm kind of a new blood. A younger fan (because apparently to those on here a lot of the community is "Ville obsessed middle aged women..." and fairly new to having HIM as my favorite band as well. My previous favorites were Fall Out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold. I still like those groups a lot but then I discovered Coheed and Cambria, CKY, Poets of the Fall, and other Finnish music and then all of a sudden I barely listen to them anymore. It was kind of funny to me because I guess technically I've been a HIM fan since I was 13 and for some odd reason even though I always liked them I had never completely looked into them. So it took seven years for them to become my favorite band. One day I was just super depressed and bored and wanted to listen to WOAB (that song that sold me on them at 13) when it finished playing I realized I didn't feel like listening to anything else or repeating WOAB. I ended up clicking on the Youtube vid for The Funeral of Hearts and replaying that all day. After that I just couldn't get enough of HIM related anything.

As a normally depressive person it isn't usually very common for me to have so much enthusiasm about anything. Discovering I had so much and nobody who understood it was very frustrating. Maybe there is a remedy for that here. Although I will openly admit I fall under the Ville obsessed category, I have a pretty good lid on it around people who aren't. I am kind of a shy person so it took me some time to even be able to admit it to myself! lol Like,"Noooooooo! I thought I got over this celeb interest thing!" My last being Orlando Bloom.

its always good to have a new and ACTIVE blood , this used to be very nice active forum, but as the ages went and when FB came all the forums died, or survived mostly inactive. Here it is active when it comes to something new, cool and then its quiet.
We have also the evergreen members that are still active , daily replying or visiting, and then we have just inactive members.

i dont have a facebook and i am active just here as i consider this forum as the best "HIM world". It would be nice to have once active and pretty alive forum back, but i think all the facebook fan sites ruined the magic of this forum. Or just the fans stopped visiting because they stopped liking that band much and they dont have time. who knows...

In the other hand this is intenational forum, there you will find HIM fans from all over the world, seriously. Of course most of them are inactive or they are just visiting, reading, but not replying and commenting. There are also some forums based on just national basis - there is some French HIM forum, russian HIM forums, Belarus HIM forum and many many more! And they dont know about us, they talk in their language on their forum and they live in smaller HIM world, this is forum that is in English, everyone speaks English - native English speaking countries or "amateur" homelearnt English speaking members as me for example :-D When someone just cant speak or cant understand, they just dont comment :)

but we have the best HIM aces of stuff in here, really nice media section (that i must refill i guess :-D)

We all have our inner demons, and we've all chosen to make HIM one of our favorite bands and touch our lives in different ways. I'd like to think that my situation is similar to yours. I'm not a very openly depressive person, but for me it's a bit odd... I'd rather feel sad, depressive emotions, or that feeling of "wanting" than happy when it comes to music. I like to know that I can still "feel" those things and I like to think it makes me stronger and more prepared on how to deal with things when the world comes crashing down on me personally.

There's music I listen to for nostalgic reasons, like music I grew up to, and then there's music that I listen to because they have affected me personally... HIM falls into both of those. There's other bands that have achieved this level too such as Sentenced, Sonata Arctica, and a little more recently Blue October. The first two bands are Finnish as well. I encourage you to give those a listen too... If you're like me, you'll be glad you did. I can give you a few suggestions:

Sentenced:
The Rain Comes Falling Down
Killing Me Killing You
Aika Multaa Muistot (Everything Is Nothing)

Sonata Arctica:
Last Drop Falls
Tallulah
My Selene
White Pearl, Black Oceans

^These guys make all their songs little stories and there's a couple that are all linked together. There's Wildfire parts 1-3 and then the Caleb series (Caleb, The End Of This Chapter, Don't Say A Word, Juliet)

Blue October:
Chameleon Boy
Congratulations
18th Floor Balcony
Weight Of The World
Light You Up
& Pretty much everything from the "Any Man in America" album which was about his divorce... some pretty heavy stuff.

I have three pages I follow on Facebook. HIM's official page, The Heartagram Team, and Gas Lipstick's. The HIM page has most of their stuff, The Heartagram Team post anything they think is missing and some more fan based stuff, and Gas posts tour stuff (lots of food porn from the places they visit lol) and stuff about his life. Which I like a lot, now if only I could get some more of Linde and Burton.... at least with Linde there is the rare Daniel Lioneye interviews. Never heard Burton say a word. I jokingly told my friend from Finland that if I ever came across the band I would use Linde and Burton to hide behind from the rest of the band (if I didn't die first). I also use two music sites called Loudwire and Noisecreep which also sometimes have HIM stuff posted. Mostly I just like that they connect me to rock and metal news. (Cooking Hostile with Phil Anselmo! lol)

My favorite thing about Finnish music is the way it tends to be whimsical and melancholy at the same time. I listen to HIM (obviously =) ) The 69 Eyes, Poisonblack (mostly just the Escapexstacy album), Amorphis, Nightwish, Tarot, The Rasmus, Apocolyptica, and the previously mentioned Poets of the Fall. I think I may have tried Sonata Arctica. But it can't hurt to try them again with specific songs instead of what my Pandora randomly selected. Never heard of Sentenced but I like those song titles and will look those up. I don't listen to songs in Finnish much 'cause I only know some super basic words but I like the stuff Ville did with The Agents.

It's funny that you mention Poisonblack... you may notice a familiar "voice" while listening to Sentenced :P
Charon is another good band... Now this is really funny because if you're familiar at all with Poisonblack's first album with a different singer, you'll find another familiar "voice" while listening to Charon. Unfortunately, like Sentenced, they have broken up.

I gave them all a listen. Didn't like the vocal for Sonata Arctica but I like that genre in general. As for Sentenced and Charon between them I prefer Charon although overall I still prefer Escapexstacy over both.

It works perfectly fine. It's a reputation system which by default was Applaud/Smite, but we changed it to Suck/Fuck. Basically if you want to thank someone for doing something then you Applaud/Suck, if you want to do the opposite then you Smite/Fuck.

Sure. The numbers are there. But not the option to pick either one. If you want to actually applaud or smite anybody, what I meant was where is the option to do so?

I have dreamed about new HIM songs before. And of course when I wake up and realize they aren't real I get pretty upset.
Waking up for me is always a pretty upsetting experience. I have a sleep disorder so I have a crazy sleep cycle. I dream far more frequently than the average person. I also have a high count for lucid dreams, sensation dreams, and nightmares. A lot of the time I wake up with tears streaming down my face because I was scared in my sleep. And if I die in my dreams I feel most of the sensations of my death. But I think my mind can only reproduce sensations in has felt before so it usually takes the form of me drowning.

Lots of people say they have to train themselves to lucid dream especially with certain skills (a lot of people say they have trouble getting themselves to defy gravity) but I am like god when mine happen. I can destroy and create anything/everything. So I can make my perfect world but then have to wake up to reality. I also have skills in my dreams I don't have in real life. I compose music and design stuff in my sleep all the time. I have made everything from opera to metal but can't really remember it when I wake up, I just remember it being there. Mostly I design clothes (particularly gowns) and sometimes houses with furnishing down to the smallest details. So it is always nightmare-reality, heaven-reality, and even if it were just reality I find it all to generally be a personal hell.

But on a more thread related note.... I have dreamed that HIM was playing on Mount Olympus. And then there was one where I was in their practice space and they weren't there yet so I was poking around and opened the Pandora's Box of HIMdom and learned all their secrets. Burton showed up as I was closing it back up and was suspicious and the band ended up hunting me down. I was caught and received the kiss of death. (Totally worse ways to die XD) Consequently, in my next dream I was following Ville around as a ghost. Every time he would try to light a cigarette I would blow it out. =P

Listening to HIM helps.

Lol. I don't need you to tell me to do that. I do plenty of that. Maybe too much even. I read that people who listen to only the same stuff over and over are more likely to feel depressed. Well, shit. That explains my depression.

Hell, I wish it explained mine. But it probably doesn't help either. Sometimes I think I may be becoming an emotional masochist. Like trying to find new levels of sorrow is the only thing that helps me feel alive anymore.

Have you sought help from a doctor or psychologist? When I hit my lowest point a few years ago, my physician put me on Sertraline, which helped correct the chemical imbalances that I had. I was on that, and then a few other anti-depressants for about two or three years and then weaned myself off them. Until recently, I've done fine without anything.

I have been prescribed an anti-depressant. And been to class and therapy. Therapy made me feel worse. Class was alright. Lots of funny people there, people who actually understood what I was feeling. But if there was anything I learned from that experience it is that all the therapy I could possibly take wouldn't change my view of the world. My brain has been steeped in toxicity far too long for that to change. I'll always see the world as a poison place. Drugging my chemical brain won't change the intellectual one and the intellectual one happens to be a pessimist.

When I made my list I wanted to be sure to include every album. And on some of the albums it was hard to choose songs so I just decided to pick two from each. But that plus the three other songs I wanted seemed just too long so I dropped it to one from GLV 666. Also among the three that aren't from the eight albums one song is a cover (I think any list should have at least one of the covers even as a dream list to be realistic) and then the two songs that I think get left out because of the way they were released. So I think mine is balanced.

Dark Light was the hardest to choose from because I also really like Under The Rose, Behind The Crimson Door, and Killing Loneliness. I also wanted You Are The One but there just wasn't room. You obviously enjoy Screamworks. Any difficulties choosing when you made your list?

Same as you i wanted to pick a cover and I was torn between strange world and solitary man. Yes screamworks is my favourite but I tried not to just put in all screamworks songs so I picked some of my favourites I don't think I could ever choose a setlist if I had an actual opportunity to pick their setlist as it'd be about 75 songs long.  ;D

My ideal list, ignoring all sense of balancing all the albums, or only songs they've played live:

Sigillum Diaboli
Heartache Every Moment
Bury Me Deep Inside
Endless Dark
I Love You
And Love Said No
Into The Night
Like Saint Valentine
Pretending
Lose You Tonight
Tears on Tape
Venus Doom
WLSTD
In Love and Lonely
The Heartless
Katherine Wheel
The Funeral of Hearts
When Love and Death Embrace

If I experienced that set, I'd die happy.

Out of three lists that's three common songs. Like St. Valentine, And Love Said No, and Heartache Every Moment. Not bad really. Tastes on here for favorites seem to vary so for three lists I was almost expecting one or none.

When I am bored I can't help but ponder random and often pointless things. My latest meandering of the mind has brought me this thought..... sometimes artists make accounts on some of their fan sites and actually follow the things that are being said about them and even comment on things (I know at one point members of FOB did this) so my thought is.... if the members of HIM had secretly made accounts for themselves on here, I wonder what usernames they would be under?
This is a rhetorical question, btw, but I guess if anyone actually wants to try to answer it that could be amusing.

I guess it is possible though I consider it unlikely. Most of the band seems like they wouldn't be interested in lurking around these things except Gas who does follow and comment on his Facebook. You can get him to respond to you if you comment right when he is online. But I haven't been among the lucky ones who catch him at just the right time.

Quite a while ago I was playing this game called Osu! and it didn't have any HIM songs so I was just like....okay....I'll make one myself! I settled on doing Killing Loneliness. But I am not so great at the map making. Not skilled enough to finish my map but too proud of what little I was able to do to scrap it. So I just look at it sometimes and wish it were completed or that I knew somebody who could finish it for me....oh well. Seems that Osu! is gonna remain HIMless for a while.

I've gotten into a bad habit of singing Your Sweet Six Six Six wrong because for the longest time I thought he was saying "I will carve your sweet six six six in my heart" not "I welcome your sweet six six six in my heart". There are some other songs I know I heard what he said wrong but I can't think of them right now.

Never heard anything about waffles.... yet. Haha "hearrrt" For me it has to be Beyond RRRedemption. He does flip the R a little bit but for some reason for this particular song I feel the need to roll it completely. One of the things I really like about Screamworks is that Ville says some of the words more like a Fin. "Lift the lid off your heart's casket" he says it like "leed". And then I always thought "oncoming" sounded kind of funny in "the light of the oncoming train". But I like that they are different. And then I just really like the rolled r's in In Venere Verrritas and when he says Ave Marrria.

Normally I remember absolutely nothing of my dreams of HIM songs when I wake up except that there was one. But this time the flavor of whatever one I was dreaming was stuck on my brain enough for me to remember the tiniest bit. It was like In the NightSide of Eden+Tears In Heaven+the beginning of Money For Nothing. Ended up with "And all the tears fall down, on this day in Heaven" as the only thing I remember of the chorus. And something about "shards of stained glass being scattered on the floor like so many fears and burdens we cast at God's door" being somewhere else.

Oh silly brain of mine and your mish mashing of things together.

I feel like there needs to be some joke here about how Ville doesn't really like all the new technology very much when he can just talk to people in person....like "It is time! I am finally ready for the phone! I won't be able to use half the functions on the f**king thing.... but who cares!?"

I'd rather be called a HIM Minion than a HIMster any day of the week. I'm as old as the guys in the band and I've been a music lover all my life, I don't want to be labeled with what I consider to be a kiddie name for being a HIM fan.  I don't come on here all the time, but this is the only forum where I trust the information and the knowledge given when it comes to the band.  I'm not a middle aged Ville obsessed woman, I truly love the music and all the guys in the band, but I do have my moments.  :D  They each bring something special to the songs and I couldn't imagine there being any other incarnation of HIM.

I do understand about the impersonal feeling of Facebook. While I do go on there for band information, I feel like most of the people on the fan pages are idiots. Like a rabid pack of wolves and name calling and just drama that as an older person does not appeal to me. It's harder to pick a friend on there and like you said, get to know them.  I almost feel as though you get categorized within the HIM domain as what kind of fan you are based on 1) which album you like, 2) which band member you like. I get so tired of hearing terms like "true fan" and "real fan" being thrown around when a discussion comes up over liking or disliking something the band did.  But I think I am rambling now....haha....

And don't be discouraged either about posting or the infrequent posting as you may find.  For me, personally, I've had a lot going on in the past year. I moved, my mother has cancer (which is really tough to deal with) and I've dealt with my share of depression and just being unhappy with where I am in life. But the music and HIM will always remain a constant for me. There is comfort in the lyrics and songs. It does make it tough to come on all the time, but I think in general this is the best forum/site to come to for honest information about the band.  I've learned a lot just by reading the list in the music database when I've been adding to my collection.  So....hope that helps!  I like everyone here and am happy to chat with anyone.

@Jaded_Heart

Haha yeah. HIM came out as a band the year BEFORE I was born. There is an interview Ville did on his 20th birthday and when I turned 20 I was thinking.... "Look at what he was doing... and look what I have accomplished with my 20 years.... absolutely nothing!" I try not to call people old because I find it rude but sometimes they just make me feel so much like a child. All my friends are like "Hey, let's go to Warped Tour and this show and that show!" And I'm just here like, "Man, if only I could have went to a HIM concert in the 90's..... as a baby and all that cause that would have went over just great..... -.- "

I am so glad I found this site. Lack of a place to release my enthusiasm was seriously driving me bananas. As far as interest in things goes there is only really two levels for me, lack of interest and obsessive. The Discussion forum description says "Express your lust here" and I instantly liked that because that was exactly what I had felt the need to do. I was at the point where I had wanted to pull my hair out because I had wanted to vent so bad and there was nobody to tell it to. Except my bestie and my friend from Finland but there is only so much fangirling they can stand lol

"Incarnation of HIM" I like the sound of that a lot, I think it has a rather nice ring to it. Maybe I will put that on my next HIM photo edit project whenever I get around to it. I don't really think of any of the people on the fan pages as idiots, after all if they like HIM they must have good taste at least =P but I do understand what you mean about them being a bit too dramatic.... not that I am not....I have my dramatic streaks to be certain but it is mostly just a side effect of having been a drama club student and too much books/tv not actually trying to cause drama. Also people on the internet seem to like to target me for bullying even though I am never really mean to anyone so I get rather fed up with that stuff. Glad I don't have to deal with it here. And feel free to ramble on about anything you like!!!

There definitely is comfort in the music. HIM is the one band that knows my happiness as much as my tears. Weird as it may be I judge whether I think a book or movie is truly great based on whether or not it can make me cry. How attached can they make me to the characters (or in music the sentiment) and how devastated can they make me be when you take them away or the movie/book ends.

As nice as I am sure being a Ville fangirl just for the hell of it is... he is my idol. Attractive as he is I can't really be interested in someone for just that reason. It is not in my nature. I am sorry if you do not get this reference but for me it is kind of like in Labyrinth where Hoggle is going to throw the peach away and he hears Jareth's voice (in his mind/from the sky?) saying "I wouldn't do that if I were you." Like when I am doing things I probably shouldn't I hear what I imagine Ville might have to say on the subject in my head.

You make some rather valid points!  I think you hit the nail on the head as far as how you described judging books, etc., by how the affect your emotions. That is exactly why I love HIM. For me, if a band has crap lyrics then there is no amount of guitar or bass or anything else that can save it.  It has to touch my soul and Ville's writing does just that.  He may not be the best singer on earth (although I think he's pretty close) but the way he incorporates the musical aspects and his emotion into the songs, they just come to life and I think that is what gets me.  The slight keyboard or a small chord on the guitar all play a role in the music. I think he's brilliant and doesn't get enough credit for what he tries to create with the band. And I can only imagine how disappointing it would be if something wasn't as successful as he'd hoped.

I don't know how or why anyone could be a fangirl for the hell of it. LOL. I understand you though- there has to be a connection to someone to make them that attractive.  I would love to just sit and talk to any of the guys in the band and have a normal conversation with them. I think they are all interesting in their own way and bring that to the band.  Although now we don't know what will happen with Gas leaving. So damn sad!!  I can't tell you how many times I kicked myself in the ass for not making serious plans to go to Finland at least once for Helldone. Now, I feel like there is no point because the band (the incarnation, haha) that I fell in love with is now going to change.  I am hoping that the right person will come along though and they will be re-energized to continue playing in the band.  I love them all and just really want them to be happy in their lives, they truly deserve to be.

And yeah, ramblings from an elder here....sheesh.... :P

Unless you speak Finnish I don't think you would get much "normal conversation" from Linde or Burton (and even if you do, maybe not). But talking to Ville, Mige, or Gas would for sure be interesting. At the same time I feel like it would be sort of awkward. In my case maybe even not physically possible because I have bad social anxiety but I still do like entertaining that thought as well.

I just moved so I finally was able to hang all my posters (I didn't have the wall space before). So my Tears On Tape door poster and a Metal Hammer Angel/Devil poster I just got were able to go up for the first time. I got the poster on ebay and I think it came from a user on here because the names match and so goes the shipping location to their listed location on here. When I was looking for one to get I almost got this one that is super teeny bopper of Ville. It reminded me of when I used to buy those teen celeb magazines. Although now that I think about it I never bought them for any of the people inside, always for the horoscopes and quizzes. Anyways it was doubled sided and had another person on the back. I was like "Mom who the hell is this?" Ends up it was one of the Spice Girls.

For some reason whenever anyone uses the word elder or elderly I imagine people who are probably 70 or older lol.

At their neighbor, their lord, their (ht priest, or their nation,
Some among 'em next day should betray conversation."

—BHtUh Apollo, 1708.

The origin of the phrase, " under the rose,' implies secrecy, and
had its origin during the year B. C. 477, at which time Pausanias, the
commander of the confederate fleet of the Spartans and Athenians, was
in an intrigue with Xerxes for the subjugation of Greece to the Per-
sian rule^ and for the hand of the monarch's daughter in marriage.
Their negotiations were carried on in a building attached to the tem-
ple of Minerva, called the Brazen House, the roof of which was a
garden forming a bower of roses ; so that the plot, which was conduct-
ed with the utmost secrecy, was literally matured under the rose. Pau-
sainas, however, was betrayed by one of his emissaries, who^ by a pre-
concerted plan with the spliori (the overseers and counselors of
state, five in number), gave them a secret opportunity to hear from
the lips of Pausanias himself the acknowledgment of his treason. To
escape arrest, he fled to the temple of Minerva, and, as the sanctity
of the place forbade intrusion for violence or harm of any kind, the
people walled up the edifice with stones and left him to die of starva-
tion. His own mother laid the first stone. It afterwards became a
custom among the Athenians to wear roses in their hair whenever they
wished to communicate to another a secret they wished to be kept in-
violate. Hence, the saying sub rosa among them, and since among
Christian nations. J. H. W. Schmidt, Ansonia, O.

My heartagram edit. Photobucket didn't want to let me make it my profile pic so I shall post it instead. Not a perfect circle but that is to be expected with a free editing program.

Before and after photos in my editing process. I had to get rid of some of that sex hair look sadly. Ville's hair is often too close to the color of things in the background which makes editing him out difficult so some of it had to go.

Early edits done just after the one of Ville with the planets.

You may ask what a "Strata Gate" is. It is part guitar reference and part inside joke with myself. I thought that if someone asked me I would tell them, "A Strata Gate is what you have to go through to go knock on heaven's door."

Juusto is Finnish for cheese.

This is a poem I wrote when I was 14. Nothing HIM related but I tend to post whatever I feel like in this thread I made anyways. Feel free to comment your opinion on it.

Thus flows a river of darkness,
Through a valley of woe,
As a heart was broke to pieces,
Because he let her go.
She rode tendrils of freedom,
High up into the sky,
Way up out of the atmosphere,
She left him there to die.
A valued independence,
That shattered his blissed love,
To her a luminescence,
Unchained she soars above.
She was his beating heart,
He was a bleeding in her brain,
To him she was the missing part,
To her he was a chain.
They say that love is blind,
He somehow could see through,
Only freedom could bring her happiness,
He knew it to be true.
That's why he let her go,
And ripped out his own heart,
To grant her needed happiness,
By tearing his apart.

Another one of my 'better late than never' moments:

I used to listen to Tears On Tape only while showering (which takes ages for me, mostly because of my hair) so it didn't really get through to me. But I recently changed my shower music to DSABH and now I noticed how great the album is. I really like how Ville's voice sounds on it, it's... softer?
That said, I've always loved his voice. Should he ever need a break from making music, he totally should record audiobooks. That would be so perfect.

If anyone's interested: RR is perfect for showering, VD and SW are best for cooking, as is Uneasy Listening Vol. 2, DL for singing along during car rides, and DSABH, BIB, and TOT for reading. If you manage not to get distracted from reading because of too good music that is^^
I may be biased concerning DL though, it was the first album I had and I spent the first days listening to it driving around visiting friends and annoying them with singing Under The Rose the whole time :D

Jay: I didn't use Photoshop. I used a (free) editing program called Pixlr. It really only does very basic edits. It has way less tools and capabilities compared to a legit thing like Photoshop. But if you spend a lot of time on it you can make some pretty cool stuff.

Kaysa: If Ville recorded audiobooks I don't think anybody would actually pay attention to the story lol They would just zone out to his voice. One time I listened to Rendezvous with Anus from Uneasy Listening Vol. 2 right before I did some volunteer hours at a thrift store. I had it stuck in my head so was trying to sing it underneath my breath while sorting books and clothes. As for Dark Light at the time I wrote the poem I posted up above I only knew three HIM songs, WOAB, Under the Rose, and Behind the Crimson Door. No The Funeral of Hearts though which I think is kind of funny because I find it to be -esque of the vibe of that song. I was listening to those three songs, Creed, and Nine Inch Nails during the phase of most of my poetry at the time. Well not at exactly the same time because I can only write with silence.

GIMP is a great free image manipulation programm as well. I'm just not creative enough to do a lot with it...

WOAB was one of the first HIM songs for me as well. That and The Kiss of Dawn I actually listened to, Killing Loneliness and Heartkiller I usually skipped because those were too painfully beautiful. Wow, that sounds incredibly stupid.
As for The Funeral of Hearts: My (ex-)girlfriend got upset on a regular basis for me not knowing it for three years. (We used to sing together with her playing guitar but obviously we had to both know the songs.) I'm pretty sure I know it better then her now :D

Diet is hard. Especially for my fatty American self. It causes you to think about food even more than you did before. You can really tell when....

"Kill me, I cried and love said no."

                becomes

"Grill meat, with fries and large soda to go."  :P

I am a major foodie. I just love everything about it. If I could I would love to be one of those people who just goes around trying foods of all kinds and doing food challenges. And post pictures of all of it. I don't watch regular broadcast television only streaming so I don't see nearly the amount of food ads other people do but I dream about it in my sleep. And I can't stop myself from watching food related anime or playing food service games online even though they make me hungry. Cutting it all out completely would just cause me so much despair. Like if you were to tell me I couldn't listen to HIM anymore or log on here. Just too much.

The colors in the first photo are really nice! And Under The Rose will forever have a special place in my heart as the first HIM-song I fell in love with, and instantly.

About two weeks ago, on the second day that was really fall, I was sitting in a bus, driving home from town to the middle of nowhere, and even if it wasn't exactly late, it was already pretty dark, rainy, all the lights in the streets were on, really calm. I listened to Tears On Tape and the album has never been so, so fitting. It was perfect.

So, seasonal feelings on the other side of the ocean, too :)

I love how this color combo just pops.

It really does! Pink and yellow are great together :D
How did you do that though? Did you use Select By Color (or something similar) to change the heartagram stuff to yellow, then add the flame-y parts to the pic and duplicate/curve bend it somehow? (I'm sorry, I don't exactly have this kind of English vocabulary xD)

It's been ages since I did photo editing... I actually wanted to toy around with it a bit recently but I'm as creative as a brick. I require promts and a quite specific vision of what I want to do. Also, more resources. I didn't even add brushes or fonts to GIMP and I've had this laptop for years. Literally. Can't do anything without a good set of brushes :D

The blue-green one with your username and the yellow and pink one were both made using the photo that is your current profile pic. To turn it pink/yellow I used a feature called "Solarize" on both. A "Water Swirl" was added to the blue/green one to whirl around that flamey look (which was already a part of the original photo) around a bit more. And then inverted to turn from pink/yellow to blue/green. Both pictures were given a feature called "Kaleidoscope" which is what duplicates it and warps it around depending on what settings you use. You can adjust whether you want it to bend horizontally, vertically, none, or both, as well as just how far you want it to bend. Compared to most people (and their programs) I am just a noob. But if you ever want me to do something specific for you I could give it a shot.

That's pretty cool!

It's actually the other way around, I'd try myself if I knew what I wanted, but thanks for the offer :)

If I do start photo editing again I really need to read up on tools again. I forgot everything /o\
I made a couple of custom pics for a browser game and a few make-a-pic-nicer-and-add-an-inspirational-quote thingies years and years ago. Actually, I was really happy with some of them, I really do want to start again.

I'll be out in the interwebz hunting for inspiration :D
Title: Kiss of Dawn lyrics...?
Post by: Kaysa on October 08, 2015, 09:05:04 PM
(I post this here because people were talking about misheard lyrics in this thread earlier. Not sure if this is actually misheard, though xD)

So, as we all know, Ville likes to play around with lyrics sometimes. Like, 'Let me look into your eyes' becomes 'let me look between your thighs'.
Today I had a look at the The Kiss of Dawn performances from this year and noticed that he sometimes changed the following line as well. I'm not exactly sure I understand it correctly, a few times I heard 'and kiss all death goodbye' but at least twice it sounded like 'and hit on death goodbye' :D

Someone tell me I'm not deaf yet?

Well, fuck xD

I listened to it again today, I mean, it was pretty late for me yesterday. I still don't hear it though :D
Even if I try to hear it as 'kiss all death', the more often I listen to it, the clearer I hear 'hit on death'.

I mean, the <kiss> or <hit> is debatable because it's really short and difficult to make out in that video, especially <k > or <h > is unclear. But even if <s > and <t > are very similar phonetically, the <s > should be pretty audible since it's a sibilant.
Same goes for <l > and <n >, they are phonetically similar. It's still a clear <n > to me, though.
(No, I didn't spend the day reading about phonetics, what do you mean? : D)

I'm not a linguist (yet :D) but I'd imagine one factor for why we hear it differently is because of different first languages?
I went through your posts to see where you're from (Sorry about that, I'm usually not that creepy xD) and I assume yours is English, so that could be a reason.

However, I could always just blame/thank Billy Talent. I knew it was too loud but listening to their music safed my sanity a couple of years ago. And without having tried Not Sane, I'd choose sanity over perfect hearing xD

So... besides some stuff in "What are you listening to?" I haven't posted any weird random shit in quite a while. Time to do that I guess. I mean, with the band broken up that is what I have left now, ya? So anyway I have had this odd dream at least twice now of Ville doing a song that is clearly the lyrical melody of Sting's Desert Rose but in Finnish... well at least I think it is supposed to be. It definitely isn't in English but I only have an individual words Finnish vocabulary so there is no way I could dream in full sentences. The lighting is tiki torches. The band are all men in hawaiian themed shirts with platinum blonde spiky hairstyles (kind of like John Cooper of Skillet when they did Alien Youth and Invincible) and wearing sunglasses. Ville isn't wearing the theme though. First the band is just kind of jamming and then these female dancers with long sandy blonde hair come out. They are completely naked except for hot pink stockings and pumps. They do a type of "dancing" that I won't describe here... Bizarre, huh? No clue wtf my subconscious mind is doing.

I went to look for it since you mentioned it and in the Hawaii episode they are singing an Elvis song. "Beach Boy Bingo" is a different episode where DJ wins concert tickets by calling in on the radio. Unless there is another episode I looked over. Boy, I forgot just how corny that show really is. The difference between the years that I grew up in and the ever blossoming technological era manages to even make me feel old and I am only 25.

Yeah, I got the two episodes mixed up. I'm not the Full House expert I thought I was. I just remember that scene where they're all on stage in Hawaii and your dream immediately made me think of that.
