Title: Anti-virus detects Malware
Post by: Inferno on March 16, 2014, 06:43:43 AM
For some reason every time I come here I get a "Malware detected" popup from Windows Defender. This is most likely a false positive, but it is rather annoying and it's something to do with some particular bit of code on the forums.

Jay, if you're reading this I suggest you check out these pages on the issue: HERE (http://www.serverschool.com/shared-hosting/how-to-remove-trojan-js-redirector-cq-from-your-wordpress-site/) & HERE (http://www.cateyefotos.com/blog/2012/01/js-redirect-trojan-attack-on-my-wordpress-blogs/)

i fixed that problem for myself - removed the Windows defender from my PC :D
but in the virus vault there was a lot of shit from there so i would check it Jay just to be sure

Ok, I'll check into it.  I remember the McAfee browser plug in going crazy due to some linked pictures that were hosted elsewhere.  I'll look into it to make sure though.  Thanks.

Do you guys also get the ''Js/Redir'' virus message? I'm using AVG btw.

It's a known issue in wordpress and from what I understood  it's a chunk of code that could be used for malicious purposes.

Can you screenshot what's coming up? And it's odd, as the forum itself isn't run on wordpress.

This is at ''Main Menu''. When i open an topic, only 1 JS/REDIR virus pops up. But AVG removes it.

It looks like it has something to do with the portal page.  I'll check the scripts.

I have some days without access to the website. I get no notice of any virus, but takes too long to load.

Everything is running smoothly for me, but I continuously get pop ups from my security, asking about deleting viruses. Very strange indeed.

It's strange, as I didn't change anything due to being busy with work.  I was just about to follow up with everyone.  Is it still happening?

Apple has nothing to do with it as they're just as susceptible to viruses... The whole thing about Apple products being virus/malware free is just a myth from the old days (back when they had very little market share and no one cared about wanting to hack their systems) One needs only to realize the fact that Apple itself sells AV software.

Anyways, some Anti-virus programs react to certain things and a script on the website is seen as bad by some. It's nothing harmful by any means, it's just an annoyance. Those AV programs that do tell you that something is up are simply warning you that something malicious COULD happen, but surely it's not.

Yes Jay. It's still happening. But it's more likely now that it's a positive false. Nothing bad, just very annoying message.

when i had windows defender it warned me everytime i opened this forum
but since i removed windows defender as a crappy AV, and installed Avast Pro everything seems to be OK, altough sometomes it takes minutes to laod the page, sometimes it just works perfectly, i dont know why is that, but it has nothing to do with OS or PC, Laptop, becuase it is the same when i use my laptop or when i use my android devide or my nokia with windows phone, it is slow sometimes
and it sucks

PS:
and btw all the shits options to the posts like url,img and stuff vanished
in every browser, wtf?

Very true. Just because I'm on a Mac doesn't mean I'm immune to viruses, or spyware, or malware, or whatever else that's out there. It's not a very common occurrence to be effected by something like that as it would be if I were on a PC running Windows, though. I still take precautions against it, but I don't ever worry about it. There are definitely people out there that erroneously think it can't happen, but it more than likely won't. Like you said, though, as Apple and Macs become more and more popular, the risk will get greater. I feel entirely safe on my machine, though. That being said, I did receive the malware message today using both Chrome and Firefox. Sci.net or something like that it's saying is the culprit. Never received the message once before today.

Yeah, Chrome makes it out to be the scariest thing in the world. Shows a picture of a robber and says stuff about stealing your identity and whatnot. Firefox alerted me as well, but I proceeded anyway using it. When I tried clicking on this particular section of the forum, it showed loading from an sci.net, and it just kept loading. Everything was fine on my end up until yesterday.

I am using IE to post this because chrome refuses to let me in even if I tell it to. Anyways, when did you last update the forums Jay? 2.0.7 is the latest version, but from what I read the initial release had some bugs. If you updated after Jan 22nd you're good, but if you did it before the developers recommend that you "uninstall the patch through the Packagemanager, delete it and then download & install it again." If this doesn't solve it, I think it may have something to do with a/some avatars/signatures.

I've been getting the same warning for the past three days. I noticed the site was getting slow a few days before the message popped up.

Sorry guys, I had a bunch of stuff happen to my girl's family and have been dealing with that.

I started seeing the message on Chrome today and will hopefully find some time to deal with it.  I'll contact the host and see if they can help.

Jay,

I hope all is well with the family... And thank you for the attention you spend on this issue.

It seems the problem is solved. At least i don't get any warnings anymore. The website isn't slow anymore also. Maybe other people can confirm this?

Thanks.

Still the same over here as far as the warning message goes. Just checked with Chrome a little bit earlier.

Thanks Helldone, I appreciate it.

I'm still getting the message in Chrome too.  I'm scanning it and I'll see if I can resolve this today.  I've scanned it with a URL scanner and it's coming up clean in all scans except in the google safebrowsing scan.  I'll use the diagnostic tool to see what it's picking up.

Edit: I disabled the portal page, and requested a review from google.

I had the SQL database scanned and it was free of viruses.  I'll get feedback from google in the next day or 2.

I cant enter to the "Index" board, the antivirus blocked it.

I hope that it will be resolved soon.

What index board do you mean?

Also, I'll give it a few days and see if I can reinstate the portal page.
