I read this book called 'A Fine Balance' a little while ago. It was about these East Indian tailors and how Prime Minister Indira Ghandi's policies changed their way of life. And.. it was one of those books where it is really depressing and you think that eventually it will end in happiness, but it doesn't. It was one of the most depressing books I've ever read.

Is the title. They recently made a film out of it, which I saw last night but I read the play prior to seeing the movie.
The play is genius, it's so smiple and yet brilliant. It won a Pulitzer Prize for it's brilliance even, lol.
THe plot is hard to explain because of it's circular structure but it's basically about t his woman in her twneties, dealing with the death of her father, his genius and maddness and her genius and her maddness. It's great.

I read Animal Farm in 9th grade. Engrossing at times, yet others a borefest. It's worth the read though in my opinion.

I just finished Montana 1948. It was a very good book. If you havn't read it you should check it out. I'm not much of a reader but this book just sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. Alot of the twist you can see coming very early on but the way the story is told it doesn't really take away from the experience.

it's soo gritty, the one part that sticks out in my head is when she's homeless using paper towels for tampons, at least that's how i think it went, as a dude, i was like uhhhhhhhhhh but it is a damn good book, despite it's wierd ass menstration stories.

Suede : Love & Poison - by David Barnett last night.
And I managed to plow right through in about eight hours, which isn't bad going considering up until this month it had probably been about two years since I'd read a proper book.
But it was a really really good read, you often get the feeling that biographies of bands on the whole tend to lean more towards the fan market by filling it with "behind the scenes" photos and accentuating long words that no one really understands in the hope of filling more pages, but it was a cracking book...not to say I didn't overly enjoy the photos though.
I might actually get back into the gist of reading real books eventually, ones san the junkie singers I so love to read about.

Dita Von Teese ~ Burlesque and the Art of the Teese, great book. She shares some of her life story, and when it comes to Burlesque she has really done her homework. I found it really interesting, plus she shares tips on 1940's and 1950's fashion and makeup as well as lots more.
oh plus the photographs are absolutely stunning!

I am currently reading The Silmarillion By J.R.R. Tolkien Its the tale of the begginings of the world in the first age. Long before The Hobbit, even though it was written last. I found it recently laying around in my local library. It is a very good book if you are into the whole Lord of the Rings thing. It explains so many things. I don't wanna give it back now. ;)

Music In Therapy by E. Thayer Gaston. It's a wonderful insight into how music is used to treat patients and how music can subconsciously effect people. It's worth a read. It may be old but it's still relevant to today!

I am half way through J.L Carrell's The Shakespeare Secret, and have to say it is pretty compulsive reading. If you are a fan of Thriller writting and enjoy the Dan Brown books I would recommend you checking this out.

It's what the 2010 film with Michael Cera & Portia Doubleday was based on. For anyone who saw the movie and loved it, this is a must read. While the events in the movie are very accurate to the book, the book has waaaay more going on.

I started reading the Morganville Vampire Books, and the first couple of books were brilliant and I couldn't put them down, but I think by the 4 book I just lost interest with it.

Been trying to buy an ebook reader to save me carrying around text books. However none of the shops who are selling the things seems to know what you can and can't upload onto them, considering what it does is quite simple they seem quite complicated to buy.
I am sticking to paper for novels though, I love the smell of old books.

Haruki Murakami - After Dark. This is the first book I have read by this author, and have to say that I love the mood he creates in his books and that sense of suspense that just makes you want to carry on reading. Sadly I have to say I felt that the book was sorely let down by how it ended which I can only describe as unfinished. I was left with not knowing the conclusion to the characters stories not knowing where they go and why the things that happen to them had happened to them. I felt somewhat cheated by this. However I was so impressed with the authors style of writing that I am going to try another of their books.

I finished not so long ago The Chalk Circle Man by Fred Vargas. The overall concept is very good and a majority of the story is incredibly good, but I found myself at times struggling to work out what was going on and who did what and some of the dialogue and descriptions were just a bit to drawn out. Not bad but a bit too sophisticated for me.

Eventually finished Stephen King's "The Stand" after two years of dithering about and reading other things. It was life changing.
I finally read the LotR trilogy in January and I wish I had done it years ago, it was one of the most beautiful, awesome things I've ever read.
Working on Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" (followed by "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned") now and then should be going on to Bram Stoker's "Dracula", Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" and Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein".

For the last couple of weeks off and on I have been reading James Pattersons 1st to Die, and yesterday I finally gave up on this. The chapters flick back and forwards in the story and it really makes the book feel disjointed and hard to follow. Not sure what type of effect the author was going for with this other than pissing the reader off. This book is from the very successful Womens Murder Club series and it does have some good characters in there. But it's just too damn hard to get into. Stephen King doesn't rate this guy and neither do I.
This will be the first and last JP book I will read and it's not for me.

Just finished Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis , really strong autobiography and great views to the backround of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony´s drug habbit.
If someone loves to read books from and about music bands and singers and so on, you should read this. It is only to 2003 or 2004 but anyway it is great source of informations about Anthony Kiedis and RHCP as well.
now i am going to read Poison Heart : Surviving The Ramones by Dee Dee Ramone.

Recently finished "11/22/63" by Stephen King.
The emotional buildup and story progression sat well with me, I enjoyed every chapter and every mental picture it painted.
During the middle of the book I lost any care I had for the "big picture" (preventing the assassination of JFK) and cared more about what was going on with the "small picture" (all the little things revolving around it, ei. character relationships).
By the end of the book I felt a bit drained (it stayed in my mind for a while), to what extent I usually realize depending on how easily I can pick up another book after finishing one; with this one, after finishing it, I couldn't bring myself to pick up another book for awhile, at least not one that was emotionally and mentally investing. So in that sense it had a lot of life to it.
Really enjoyed it.

I recently finished reading Jeffery Burton Russell's "The Devil: Perceptions of Evil from Antiquity to Primitive Christianity" and "Satan: The Early Christian Tradition" and will soon be continuing the next three books in the series. I think its safe to say that so far, this is possibly my favorite non-fiction book series. Highly recommended if you are heavily interested in the concept of "the devil/evil" and want a historical/anthropological, well rounded academic analysis on these overall concepts.
I've taken a break from this series and recently picked up "Satan Wants You: The Cult of Devil Worship in America", a much lighter read, of which I am about half way through. This is another I would recommend if you are casually interested topics such as The Church of Satan and the satanic ritual abuse "panic" of the 80's and 90's.

The last thing I read is Jack London's Tales of the North. A collection that includes White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, The Call of the Wild, Cruise of the Dazzler and 15 short stories. (I skipped some and read some when it came to the short stories.) For anyone who intends to read these I definitely recommend reading The Call of the Wild before White Fang. The Call of the Wild is good but if you read White Fang first you end up kind of blinded to how good it really is because White Fang is slightly more amazing in my opinion.

Just finished Keith Richards' autobiography. It was a pretty interesting read, even though I don't much care for The Rolling Stones. (Blasphemy, I know)

What kind of library has no Shakespeare, Lovecraft, and no copies of Moby Dick!? A f**king sad one that's what. Dang library is full of nothing but teeny bopper books. Have to go to the next city over.

I actually read that one a while back. It's pretty good. Sort of the same vibe as Slash's autobiography. Lots of drugs. LOTS of drugs.

He's a maniac. Finland's Slash. I don't know if you've heard his newest band Grease Helmet, but they're pretty badass. Something about a Les Paul through a Marshall just gets me. Haha
