Title: Screamworks Remix Album
Post by: Rasta666 on November 01, 2010, 04:25:33 PM
From heartagram.com :

SWRMX - The Official Screamworks Remix Album

HIM is pleased to announce the 12/07 release of SWRMX - the official Screamworks Remix Album - featuring HIM songs remixed by Tiesto, Morgan Page, Gavin Russom and more. The album will be available online on iTunes, Beatport and other digital retailers. The physical album will be available exclusively in stores at Hot Topic in the US. Starting 11/11 we will be taking pre-orders of a special package on www.heartagram.com that contains the remix album and a new HIM t-shirt featuring the album cover art.

Not sure how I feel about all this. I'm excited, but nervous. I'll let it soak in first before I give my full opinion.

Quite a surpise, haven't heard a rumor about it. Did any of you?
And Tiesto still is one of the best DJs in the world.

Looking forward to it, nice extra. Like the Uneasy Listenings, only this time with new remixes.

they have lost their minds :D
they should do some touring and making new album or at least Love metal archives volume 2 DVD , not that s#it
i know i am gonna get a lot of negative karma for that, but they are stupid .....
wake up, this is not His infernal majesty, this is not love metal ... you should be rioting, not expecting and masturbating on that stupid s#it

You should masturbate on everything Ville does! :P

I agree, Love Metal Vol II would be awesome and a better choice than SWRMX. But we will buy it anyway.

And I won't expect a new tour untill autumn 2011 (maybe some summerfestivals), because of the Daniel Lioneye tour (US only :-X) and the forthcoming album.

who knows while this comes out and the daniel lioneye tour starts they might be already working on a new album and love metal archives vol.2 this is just something new for us to enjoy before something else is released and i hope some of the songs on it are the original demos for the songs that you hear in the background of the track for track interviews or the remix cd should be a double disc set with all of the demos as a bonus like the screamworks acoustic we'll just have to wait and see

On YouTube was an one minute preview of Love, The Hardest Way, remix by Tiesto, but it's already removed by Warner.
I expected a lot from Tiesto and the song is excellent for a remix, but this sounded more like Rape, The Hardest Way... :-X

But it was just one minute, who knows...

'i dreamt the image one night, opened up the toolbox in the morn and started smashing the vhs tape to a gazillion tiny bits with a hammer. after its guts were splattered on my kitchen floor, i rather delicately forced the tape to form a heartagram. not too different than creating a remix, see?' - Valo

I'm worried. It sounds super lame. If it's typical club stuff, it's just going to be that annoying beat and noises over and over. I tend to skip over FOH and SOF club mixes on their respective singles.

But on the same note, some of their remixes have this heaviness to them and really adds something new to the song; like lose you tonight carvan ver, BABL deliverance, dead lovers lane remix

I didnt like the first preview, but i think Tiesto sucks and make boring and flat dance music. I hope the other dj`s have a little more boost in their way of making remixes.

Anyone who thinks that Tiesto is the best or just a great DJ in general obviously has not heard enough DJs.  I will argue that all day.

I found the LTHW, what little there was to preview, to be rather relaxing. I personally enjoyed it. If HIM ever went techno or whatever, I would imagine it sounding like this. The sound and beats that tiesto put to this song worked very well and didn't change the mood or flow of the original song in my opinion. I look forward to hearing more from this album.

This song as a preview for potential buyers... :(

Nothing wrong with Scared To Death (Diamond Cut Remix), it's ok. For a remix-album.

It's a techno mix guys. It's not gonna play through the whole song which is probably why you guys hate it. It had some parts that made me tap my toes to, but it also has some repetitive parts but that's techno for you.

Just went to the official site and heard the In Venere Veritas mix...   and man,  that thing is bad.   It's beyond bad.    If I was in Ville's shoes and saw that some "dj" abused one of my songs so bad I'll probably will be so depressed that I'll retire to a monastery.
This proves 3 things:

1)DJs are not musicians...  they are just a excuse to put a human face to computer software generated music.    Even with that, you need some kind of talent.

2)Valo and company, they don't care to request the A quality this songs deserve.

3)The songs were raped,.. hard.

I wish they would have tinkered with the lyrics a bit.  I mean, it doesn't really fit the tempo/rhythm...ugh.  I am going to try my best to avoid this one.

I'm definitely NOT going to get the "super deluxe Heartagram ONLY edition complete with an authenticated Ville pubic hair that will be available on ebay later anyway" edition.

Really? You know damn right that this isn't HIM's doing. It's WB trying to make money off their songs. If anyone is to blame for shitty songs it's the person who mixed them. By all rights this album shouldn't even be under the HIM name, but they want the money.

It's sickening, really.  I could understand if they were an electronic band or made danceable music.  But to think that this is the same group of Finns that made "For You" is shameful.  Blame whoever you want, and I understand that they are under contract, but I can't imagine that they had absolutely no say in this.

After the two previews, I am absolutely going to pass on this one.

yea you're right, but realize that the band has a say, and they as well want the money too. it sucks that there aren't any proper remixes, it feels like the 200 join me remixes of past. This sucks, and clearly, valo wanted this to be released.
Title: Re: Screamworks Remix Album
Post by: Inferno on November 20, 2010, 05:41:37 PM
We can't make an assume the whole CD sucks when we haven't even heard it all. It happens every time and it's a pet peeve of mine to hear people say "whaaa, this is the going to be the shittiest CD ever" and then once it released they say "It's grown on me and I like it".

It's really not up to them what WB wants to do with their music, sure they want the money but who doesn't? Look at the Uneasy Listening volumes that were released AFTER they left Sony BMG... you think they had anything to do with that? No, that label just wanted to milk whatever money they could while that still could. The record labels makes about 63% of the total profits, leaving the distributors with ~24% and the band with ~13%. That money then is split up among band members and then used to pay for personal mangers, business managers, producers, and lawers. For every ~$1000 in music sold the musicians make ~$24.

I think its not a big deal....scared t death sounds good...love the hardest way sounds awesome to me...  venera veritas sounds strange and annoying but i don't care because i believe it's a Ville idea...  :D

They remixed their worst selling album and why not...its was experimental album so they keep experimenting. And do you know what!? I'm not afraid to say that I like Tiesto remix of love the hardest way more than the original which is so unnoticeable and boring to me...

Believe in Ville... they have a reason to release these tracks....  they will not release something which it doesn't worth to be released..because they will not get any money then  :D

Haha yes quite.

But with that said, I'm not really feeling this remix stuff at all.  I have had a pretty "meh" response to everything I have heard so far.  I appreciate the experimenting and it is all pretty fun but I don't think I am going to be listening to it like I do all the other HIM stuff I have.  I keep saying I would have preferred another live album or B-sides or maybe even like a "greatest hits" remix CD going through the whole HIM discography.
Title: Re: Screamworks Remix Album
Post by: Jay on November 22, 2010, 07:11:45 PM
Yeah, I honestly don't think this is one that will grow on me.  For one, I don't listen to that sort of music much, and don't see where I'd find a way to put this on and jam out to it.  I loved the Uneasy Listening albums for the most part, especially the rare demos and early mixes.

Edit: Though I have to say, I sort of enjoy the Scared to Death mix.  For me, it's the best of what we have so far.

descriptions of songs more than two of these remixes are done by ville and ville's brother jesse that comforts me knowing that so i preordered it from hot topic for like 9 bucks it's probably worth it considering the scared to death remix is pretty good and i trust ville's creativity so i think this will be pretty good

I'm asking for a leak because I don't wanna buy it unless I like it. We really can't diss the whole CD cause we don't like 1 song. And to be honest, I listened to In Venere Veritas last night and found it to be okay and tolerable. I turned it way up so I got a lot of bass and I started to rock my head a little lol.

I think everyone biggest beef with that song is that they've heard the original and expect it to play through like the original but with different sounds. But what they get is a complete remix of the song, it takes osme of the value of the original song away. But if you look at the song as a whole and disregard how it doesn't go with the same flow as the original, it's really not that bad.

I personally think this is a win-win situation. At first I thought this was terrible especially by judging the cd throught the IVV sample through the site, but then I realized that this is still better then nothing. If the album turns out to suck then you simply don't even have to buy it.

Also, I still think that having at least some kind of new music, remixes or otherwise, is better then nothing considering that the next HIM cd probably isn't coming out for another year or so.

No, it's a bad song. The Scared To Death remix isn't too much like the original song, but I can get behind it for it's own merits. The IVV remix is just shit. It's not the kind of music I listen to and certainly not what I would expect from HIM.

its not a bad song to people who enjoy techno music.

seriously, just because you dont enjoy this music, doesnt make this CD crap.

this CD is made for people who enjoy this kind of music.

if you dont, then hey dont buy it, but dont bash on the band just because this doesnt suit your needs.

just by reading the description of the songs on Amazon.com you can tell Ville's brother seems to really be into this techo scene, and it seems like Ville really want to work with his own brother on this,

Yeah you are right on Heartkiller, it's terrible. The other ones aren't so bad but i don't understand how this isn't yet in torrent form because this youtube quality is horrible.

Also if anyone lives in Germany and would like to dl the album now its on this website http://at.7digital.com/artists/him/swrmxs/ An upload would also be most appreciated :).

Downloading it now, I'll put it in the media section once it's done.

The singing, for what it's worth, is pretty fucking horrible in Shatter Me With Hope (oOoOO Remix).

I agree! Heartkiller was the one that sounded best if you ask me. Very much 80`s influenced and sounds a bit like knight rider, haha!

After listening to this album, I've come to the conclusion that it's very uneven. Some of the remixes (Disarm Me, Acoustic Funeral Megamix, and Dying Song) are actually quite good while others fall flat (IVV, Ode to Solitude, In the Arms of Rain).

Overall I noticed that all the Ville Valo remixes are the best IMO and if this album was entirely remixed by him it would be actually really good since he's quite capable according to the songs on this.

The magemix is quite good, but it made me laugh because out of all three songs it is suppose to contain you can only here hints of acoustic funeral in it :D

My half-assed review after listening to the whole thing:

Full disclosure, I don't listen to this type of music often, so I may not "get it".

IVV - Gave me a headache.

ITAOR - I like the ambience.  Nothing real exciting, but good background music.

FSOIH - Pretty darn catchy, I like it.

OTS - It's not terrible.  I do like the guitars at the end, kind of industrial sounding.  I like that, and I'd like to see more of it.

HK - Why do I see people breakdancing in a bad 80's video? I think it's funny.

LTHW - Catchy.  Shows just how bad that 1 minute clip was out of context.  I could see it being played in a club.

SMWH - Down in Houston, they call this "screw".  Feel like I need to drink some lean while playing this.

DS - Another one that I could easily see being played in a club.

DM - This thing takes a shit at 2:06.

STD - Coming soon to a department store playlist near you.  I dig it though.

AF/LSV - Pretty cool.

I suppose the only trainwreck in my opinion is IVV.  The album still isn't my kind of thing, and if it had another artist instead of our beloved HIM on the cover, then nobody would bitch about it.

Here's my overall opinion on each song

IVV- Absolutely horrible, I still don't get why this is the sample online.

ITAOR- Not a huge fan of this. This was my favorite song on the normal cd and I can barely even notice that this is supposed to be a remix of that song.

FSOIH- Nice remix, I still feel like there should have been more vocals in this and less instrumentation, thus i feel a little of the song is wasted.

OTS- Boring this really doesn't seem like it goes anywhere.

HK- At first I hated this, but it has already grown on me. I like the sped up keys but I'm not a huge fan of the obnoxious chorus.

LTHW- I like this, not much else to say.

DS- One of my favorites on this. I really like the melody of this and I feel like this is almost better then the song on the album.

DM- Also one of my favs. The chorus in this is really calm and works better then it does on the normal cd. That being said the vocals are kind of weird in some parts.

STD- Nice song, the 80's feel translates really well to a remix.

AF- Another good remix, but i still don't really hear any sounds of the songs that are supposed to be in this :/.

Overall I think this is a nice addition and not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

BTW does anyone know whatever happened to that new HIM video thing that was supposed to happen?

You mean the thing EugeneRockstar (http://twitter.com/EugeneRockstar) talked about? Only Dying Song (http://vimeo.com/17115032) is posted yet, but the album-version.

I hated the remix of In Vinere Veritas, but I bought it on a whim when I was at the mall over Christmas break. With the exception of two or three songs this album is shit, and I'm demanding an apology from the band. I realize they didn't work on the remixes themselves, but they had to have at least listened to them. I just don't understand how they can go from releasing the remixes from the DSBH and Love Metal eras to this.
