I love over-produced albums but we've never tried a more stripped-down, simple approach in a Search And Destroy Iggy Pop and the Stooges type vibe. It'll still be wanky and melancholy and have all those HIM elements, but just not so much ear candy. Venus Doom was quite a proggy album for us so I'm thinking of doing the opposite with this one.
for some reason i would love it to be like RR Again , i just think that album was there best , that mixed with love metal , would be quite good :)

I have strange feeling that new album will be DSBH all over again. I mean - listen to the first versions of Please Don't Let It Go and Beautiful and then to album ones - it's like listening to totally different song... Worse...

Of course I know lots of people like this album. But for me, as I like heavy music, album ver. of Beautiful or Please Don't... is much worse than their Rock Versions, which I believe were the first. There are some songs on DSABH that sound good as they are. Love You Like I Do is amazing, Pretending is good, and so is Lose You Tonight. But for example Salt In Our Wounds or Heartache sound like they're lacking something (like a good, louder guitar ;) ). For me, one of the best songs is Again, and I can't understand why it's just a bonus track.
While listening to Again (Hollovlad Tepes), Beautiful (Rock Version) and PDLIG (Punk ver.), I think the band wanted this album to sound a bit punkish, and label made them totally change it...

just imagining Ville's voice and HIMs classic melancholy melodies but in a 80s vibe, very depechemode like (violator, ULTRA)ish
I would agree with you my dear although i am wanting of more heavy guitar riffs and a little more on the drums I think the thing that always bugged me was the utter slow progression of the drum lines.

he said they were still recording and to expect a US nation wide tour in mid or end of march to promote for the new record.

I'm pretty confident that Matt Squire did a good job on this record. For some reason i think he is just what they needed i've researched some other stuff he has worked on and it seems he makes the records sound the way the artist wants them to sound whether it be a alt. group or a rock group. on another note the tracklisting doesn't scare me at all it is refreshing at the least to see Ville is opening up and exploring more artistic avenues. from what i gather by the song names the lyrics still seem to have that melancholic atmosphere to them, along with the yin/yang vibe (as usual with Mr.Valo). the track i am most interested to hear is Katherine Wheel, i knew it sounded familiar and i googled it and found out it was a medieval torture device in which they martyred St. Catherine. seems to be alot of religious symbolism again which is another aspect i like Ville does great with that stuff. sorry for such a long post but i felt the need to spew my opinion. i'd like to hear other people's predictions as well. later guys :)....and gals ;)

don't be surprised if one of the new songs has a similar arrangement. remember salt in our wounds thulsa doom version cough cough (the main riff in sleepwalking past hope)yeah sleepwalking past hope main riff and that riff in thulsa doom version of salt in our wound are pretty similar ,but too happy to be alive and one last time has that guitar/bass riff really similar too maybe a little bit faster in too happy to be alive.

Sipping tea between cigarettes, the lead singer of the first Finnish band ever to go gold in the U.S. is happy to be back in L.A. after spending months at home recording the band's follow up to 2005's Dark Light, the aforementioned gold record. Then again, if the quintet hadn't been at home during the dark, cold winter months they might not have recorded the aptly named Venus Doom, an album that Valo describes as being "Like a trip into my personal hell to a certain extent."
Musically, the album is the dark, hard rocking soundtrack necessary to accompany Valo's downward descent. "I felt that we needed a lot less keyboards and there was just going to be more punching to the face type of thing," Valo says, referring to the differences between Dark Light and Venus Doom. "The whole vibe seems fresh cause the direction we had with the last album we couldn't go further. So the album sonically is a bit more sparse. That's the direction we're heading; heavier, doomier, and gloomier, and it's great to tour that kind of stuff."
Don't let the heavy topics and the self-proclaimed doom and gloom, requisites for any self-respecting hard rock record, fool you though. Valo says the making of this album was all about what would be fun for the band. "This one we were like, 'Let's just have a lot of fun and play as loud as we can,'" he says. "And most of the songs were originally on guitars so I was playing riffs differently. It was just me playing my Telecaster through a fuzz box and rocking out."
So what does Ville Valo want fans to take from the album? "Nobody can say the album's not heavy or that it's not emotional or not melodic," he says. "It's got everything we're all about and that's where we are now as a band."

- Acoustic Funeral, for example, is related to When Love and Death Embrace, a kind of a lullaby from hell. Love, the Hardest Way on the other hand is pure Right Here in My Arms style rock. And in a way a song like Scared to Death in its classic pop format is like Join Me.
- Ode to Solitude is a kind of Metallica meets Fleetwood Mac meets Buffalo Springfield thing. It has its own weird genre. The drumming is sometimes very Lars Ulrich-like, but then there are blues elements.
Spiders also had a part to play in the making of the album. If one hadn?t bitten Linde, the final track The Foreboding Sense of Impending Happiness wouldn?t be nearly as Martin L. Gore-like as it is now.
- The song was supposed to be an interlude like Song or Suicide on the last album, but Linde?s hand was very swollen for a few days. And of course this happened just as we were supposed to record the song. But in the end it was a godsend. Matt and I had time to fool around with the song. Giorgio Moroder had a chance to lift his head, and the song became completely different from what we had planned, Valo says.
The final tracks of HIM?s albums have sometimes been a hint about the future direction of the band?s music. Like for example In the Nightside of Eden from Dark Light (2005).

It's seems like everyone has very different opinions of Ode to Solitude. That seems to be the one people hate or love. It'll be interesting to hear the whole song. Personally, I think Linde's guitar playing seems very on point in this track, so I think I'll enjoy it.
In all honesty, I love every song on this album, from what ive heard of course. It seems to me that the band released the heavier songs first, because most of us are used to the Venus Doom sound.. regardless, i am super stoked for this. even poor old Heartkiller has grown on me alot ;)

Screamworks just sounds hard, without being overbearingly heavy. I looooved Venus Doom, but in comparison to HIM's other works, it just sounds heavy and almost ploddingly hard, whereas Screamworks is fast, punky and hard. It's like diet soda...it's still got caffeine and fizz for a "bite" but without all the sugar and calories.
You know, I think the only album where I liked EVERY song was Love Metal. The songs on the Screamworks preview give me this: The songs I like, I really like. The ones I don't, I really don't.

You can have your local record store import it for you. i had to do it all the time before HIM signed in the us it cost me more but i wanted the actual cds so i found a way. ps as long as you have a abnk car with a visa logo or mastercard logo on it you can order from where ever you want or buy a visa gift card somewhere and order it with that there are plenty of ways.

We don't even know if she is telling the truth, but I suppose if it did come from a processing plant (assuming it was a disc pressing plant), the employee who had took the disc may have had no way of knowing exactly what was on the disc since they were not packaged and perhaps not even labeled yet. Or maybe that was the only disc the employee had access to at the time.

Interesting videos. They are definitely more enjoyable than the recent batch of music videos we've had (Heartkiller, Bleed Well).
I'm really digging these videos as well. The amount of promotional material invested in this album is pretty amazing. It would be really neat if they had a video for every song on the album. I think watching them one after another in a dark room while high would be a pretty cool experience, lol. Hopefully they release hard copies in Blu-ray sometime down the road.

we could get into trouble for having the link up for everyone to see. the media forum isnt accessable to everyone due to heavy spam...and people stealing our hard work of having put together a ton of audio and video for everyone to have.

Firstly, it's not my community, it's yours.
And anyone who was here last summer can tell you that we had a lot of problems with spammers who would just come in and spam their way to 100 posts to get access to the media section. Once they got in, they would steal the links, post them elsewhere and would never be heard from again until something new was posted.
To stop that, we decided to change the requirement. I don't care if you have 2 posts or 2,000. I just want to see that the people we "let in" are here for the right reasons (to be a part of the community). The stuff that's available is from people's personal collection, and instead of making you trade for bootlegs, they're here, offering them to you out of the kindness of their own heart in the interest of sharing.
I don't think that asking someone to contribute to the commuity before being allowed access to the extra part is a lot to ask. It's not unreasonable, is it?
A lot of the new people who have joined recently, like yourself, have been showing good signs of exactly the kind of people we want here. Just hang in there, I promise you'll be there soon.
And btw you said you have shows too...if you're willing to share, we can hook you up and get you in. :)

Hey everyone! I've been coming to the sacrament for a long time now and was here when these boards were first put up. Not sure if when I registered reflects that or not, but whatever the case may be, I've been at least a lurker and have just never posted anything until now.
I'm posting now cause I'm curious about some of the vocal style on the album. I've heard all the songs that have been circulating for a few weeks now, but haven't found a leak yet. So to those of you who have heard the full album, is there any vocal work on Screamworks reminiscent to "I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy)?" I've always been a fan of that deep vocal that Ville uses on that track and have forever wanted more songs to feature that style of vocal. I know he still breaks it out in small doses on some other tracks, but in my opinion, never as prominent as it is on "I Love You."
Sorry about the long-winded post and I look forward to hear back from anyone who has heard the album.

Disarm Me is a great song, but I think the end where Ville is yelling "No More" kills it.
That part in Ode to Solitude where he's screaming is amazing. The part in Disarm Me sounds very cheesy to me and I think ruins what would be a great ending.
I changed my mind, I'll buy the album. Even if I don't like it, I just can't leave a gap in my HIM discography! ;D
By the way, am I the only one who actually liked The Foreboding...? It's such a unique and particular song, very different from HIM standards and one of the few songs on the cd that I immediately enjoyed.
Every type of scream, moan, yell, or whatever Ville has done in past songs/albums can all be found on Screamworks along with much more. Screamworks brings everything up to the next level in my opinion. I have no bad comments to give this album with the exception of Heartkiller being the more boring song for me.

Cliche riffs,song structure. If the music stayed the same, and you put 'my chemical romance' or someone on the cover, I'd throw it away. It has that "American emo" sound which is god awful horrible.
Ville's accent is dead.
I need to let it grow on me. But I can tell it's going to either be worse than DL or just slightly better.
I kinda wish they never got popular in the states, maybe they would have kept their darker sound.

I think it's just the way the words are really pronounced which is why it sticks out so much. It's not pronounced the way you think it would be... in veh-neh-reh ver-eh-tahs

I've been on a HIM binge for the past week or two. There's such a HUGE difference in the atmosphere of the music from glsv666s through LM and DL-screamworks.
hmmm, what happened during DL? o, I know! they went across the pond to sunny CA and got a happy go lucky American producer to make the album. And although dark light went gold, they lost a huuuuge part of their fan base because their sound was too polished, and it lacked the 'scandinavian' darker sound. Then band got smart and brought back Hilli to help produce VD along with mr palmer. Recorded in Helsinki during the winter. Whadya know, a true 'love metal' album. But all those poor lil hot topic goth kids were so upset because their sensitive little ears couldn't handle it and they wanted their wings of a butterfly back. Now screamworks is right back here in the states. And once again, disappointment. I'm sorry that you dont hear what people say when they mean Americanized. It's not bs, it's right there in front of you.

Both Tim Palmer and Hiili Hiilesmaa worked on Love Metal. They both worked on Venus Doom as well.

Well mine still hasn't come yet. I gotta say, I think it's pretty poor planning to have people who paid the money up front and paid more than the average consumer still waiting on the album when people who just casually care can just walk into a store and grab a copy. I saw them on sale at FYE yesterday, and just now got my email saying it had been shipped. What's the point of putting up a date to order by to get the album by street date if they don't follow through? As it is I could have ordered whenever I wanted and would still get it around the same time.
I'm not trying to sound petulant or impatient, but I question the logic in making the people who paid up front a month in advance wait when anybody can just walk into a chain music store and get the album before them.

Okay, so I'm still having trouble finding the 2 disc edition, in stores and online. Does anyone know what is going on with this release? I find it funny that Best Buy had two copies of the 12-track edition of Dark Light, yet only 3 copies of the single disc Screamworks, and no special editions.

the trading/collecting days of HIM are over.
it was really only prominent when everyone had 3 albums worth of shit to collect...
80% of the fans weren't around BEFORE LM...so everyone had major collections to catch up on...and really...even those of us who were infact around before even DSBH...collecting albums wasnt really a major thing.
i think it started with BMMB for me...as well a lot of people around here...i never gave two-shits about collecting anything until BMMB came around and all the sudden those who owned the most HIM shit was "king"...which basically means you now own a box (drawer, shelf, closet etc...but mostly a box)...of albums, posters, singles, stickers, belts, necklaces, buttons, vinyls, dvds, bootlegs...not to mention all the other fucking random candle holders and lunch boxes that HT put out...
what we once spread out all over our floor (some who would open up the singles collection just for "filler" haha) and took pictures of and posted thread upon thread of "YOUR HIM COLLECTION"...
*sigh
its all a thing of the past...i dont know too many people who are willing to spend $800 on 666WTL these days...
I was reading some article translation on valo daily and found this.I dont think this was Baudelaire as i remember in some interview Ville talking about flying back to finland and recording the acoustic album after screamworks was done so they wouldnt be demos then.
The preparations to Screamworks differed a lot to the last six albums ? not least because of rehab. Instead of hitting the bars in his hometown, Ville locked himself into his house, threw his double bed [yes, they said it was a double bed, just fyi :) ] out of his bedroom (?I prefer sleeping on the couch anyway.?) and replaced it with musical equipment on which he recorded his ideas on the acoustic guitar. These demos were about to grace the Special Edition of the new album and show ?how Screamworks was planned originally ? you can even hear the creaking of my wooden chair,? rejoices Ville about the nativeness of the recordings.

I would imagine that Bauderlaire doesn't differ all that much from some of Ville's original demos. The change really occurs when the rest of the band comes in.
