That's fantastic. But wait, does that mean there isn't gonna be a new VD single after Bleed Well? That would suck.

I'll keep a check on this coz I'm desperate to know what will be on the dvd.
Mabye the Venus Doom Videos and a live show  ;)
That would be good  ;D

yeah it'll be good, and it'll be better if they do another single, maybe some demos or shiz as b-sides

Mabye the Venus Doom Videos

I would rather them take the next 5 or so years and put them on a love metal archives vol. 2 though

It's gonna be the concert that was recorded in November, and then some extra stuff. This thing has been announced long ago, but now it has a name and release date. Just cos this is coming out doesn't mean there won't be another single. Bleed Well is only coming out in January, so the next single won't be till much later in the spring or early summer.

Post by: lovemetal626 on December 27, 2007, 01:22:01 PM
i pretty sure its not the Venus Doom CD

they took 2 days to film at the shows

the CD is probably a live recording, and the DVD is you get to watch it.

very similar to the metallicas live shit pack, and many many other bands that make these.

the first day was probably for recording audio, and the second day was for footage.

Post by: Grim on December 27, 2007, 01:33:23 PM
It would suck if it is VD cause I would be buying 2 copies of the same cd, but oh well  ::)

HIM doesnt play the following songs for the following reasons.

venus doom: guitar is tuned to a lower setting on some parts of the song.
love in cold blood: 2 guitar tracks
song or suicide: mmmm tooo short, maybe???
cyanide sun: two guitar tracks, and other effects.

That doesn't mean they won't do a one take in the studio without enhancements and other sound modifications, but yeah, I know that won't happen

watch it just be like footage of them from backstage lol. that would suck, but sometimes artists do that. o and maybe a bonus track.

Let's just hope warner doesn't realese an overpriced limited version of the DVD (WEB ONLY) (300$ maybe), with the same stuff on the regular one,  but with a bonus track and that's it... and parhaps in digipack!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!  ;D
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD

I wouldn't mind if they released a limited edition of the DVD. I would buy it. If you don't like it, then you don't have to buy the limited editions.
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD
Post by: michael319 on December 30, 2007, 05:01:52 PM
i just thought about it and i think that the cd will probably have the bonus songs aka the remixes and the acoustic version of that bleed well.On one cd instead of 2. Or maybe some bonus songs.

It was sarchasm and a joke... forget it...!!! Go spend 300 $ on it, then.. hehehe I actually liked the limited edition, and i think i'm one of the few ones who liked it and didn't complain when it arrived and didn't thought it was overpriced, since I waited for 3 months for my cd, 'cause Warner is !?"$|@#|@, And when it finally arrived and didn't think of anything, but to have it on my hands... so I just wanted to joke... I really hope they release a limited version, with the teaser videos maybe... all them complete obviosuly?
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD
Post by: 0321 on December 30, 2007, 06:19:24 PM
But most of the remixes are on the singles or on Uneasy Listening 1 & 2.
I think it would be kind of stupid to release the exact same thing twice in such a short period of time.

I second that 8)
I do hope this version is made as a foldout digipack.

Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD

That's exactly what it is. The CD portion is the concert audio only, and the DVD is the video plus inevitably some bonus stuff.

some of the bonus stuff is gonna be the biggest fan contest winners,
if i remember right all the winners get to be on the DVD.

alot of record lables now are doing cd's with bonus dvds that have 5 songs they recorded at some show sometime, since dark light i can name like 5-10 shows they recorded, so they got plenty of stuff that they can release, but i guess they are saving it for a later dvd. i reckon this will be something from LA.

I guess thats the best they can come up with nowadays

Right

It is called "HIM - VENUS DOOM LIVE CD/DVD JEWEL CASE"
better title then the other one.

The last songs on the DVD are videoclips I guess
But I hoped for DL videoclips in HQ too (KL, WOAB)

But why does the tracklist contains abbreviations? Like "Right here" and "Babl"?

A new LMA with a complete concert would be great

Heartagram.com forum about 15-11 (http://board.heartagram.com/index.php?showtopic=764) and 14-11 (http://board.heartagram.com/index.php?showtopic=373) Orpheum Theatre and with pictures
The setlist is the same as the DVD tracklist

And thanks Jen, but all the credits goes to Email for finding ;)

I really dont believe that is the track list...
they didnt play cyanide sun or venus doom at all this tour
they also said in an interview that they were playing the same set list to practice for the DVD they were filming in LA... so more or less if you went to a show on the tour
it's relatively same to the show you saw
i went to three shows in the US and the basic set list for all was:

Sweet Intro
Passion's Killing Floor
Rip Out the Wings Of a Butterfly
Buried Alive By Love
Wicked Game
The Kiss of Dawn
Vampire Heart
Poison Girl
Dead Lover's Lane
Join Me In Death
It's All Tears
Sleepwalking Past Hope
Killing Loneliness
Soul On Fire
Sweet 666 or Razorblade Kiss
Bleed Well
Right Here In My Arms
The Sacrament or Funeral of Hearts...

my guess is that's the track list for both the DVD and CD
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD

But the last 7 tracks from the DVD
Quote
Bleed Well, Passion's Killing Floor, Venus Doom, Love In Cold Blood, Cyanide Sun, The Kiss Of Dawn, Dead Lover's Lane
are videoclips I guess
Or else they played PKF, KOD, BW and DDL twice  ;)

14/11 tracklist was:

Passion's killing floor
Rip Out the Wings Of A Butterfly
Buried Alive By Love
Wicked Game
The Kiss Of Dawn
Vampire Heart
Poison Girl
Dead Lover's Lane
Join Me
It's All Tears (Drown In This Love)
Sleepwalking Past Hope
Killing Loneliness
Soul On Fire
Your Sweet 666
Bleed Well
Right Here In My Arms
The Funeral Of Hearts

I guess that's probably the track list in the DVD too...

I can't believe they left out "The Sacrament"...

i want to know what the clips after FOH are about.

Bleed Well,
Passion's Killing Floor,
Venus Doom,
Love In Cold Blood,
Cyanide Sun,
The Kiss Of Dawn,
Dead Lover's Lane

i talked to Tom,1 of the tour managers  in vegas and he said they are going to be using clips from both LA shows since the sets were the same. like the 1st night ville wasn't very talkative and he forgot the words to soul on fire. the 2nd night everything was spot on.

also each night they had the cameras in different spots. the 1st night was really focused on the closeups of the band and the crowd. the 2nd night seemed to fill in the gaps with longer shots

if anyone is just randomly curious about little details of the gigs PM. i was there lol

ps-the vegas show was better. they played all the songs in LA + sacrament and razorblade kiss

yea gls had alot of distortion. maybe if he had an extra guitar it would work. but think about it this way. your sweet 666,its all tears, wicked game all off gls. and the other songs weren't very popular. theres WLADE but do you really want to listen to that slow song? (not saying i dont like it)

as for dsbh. once in a blue moon they'll play something from that. remember-the band dislikes that album alot.
a)the record company forced them to change their sound. the best way to see what i mean is look at 'again' 'beautiful-3rd seal shot'. those songs rock! and thats what they wanted on the album
b)it was written during one of VV past relationships. brings back bad memories

i wont be pleased with a setlist until they play more shit off of dsbh and gls

they cant play much from GLS cuz of linde's somewhat different tunig
but i agree about DSBH... what happened to pretending??
they should def play more

yea gls had alot of distortion. maybe if he had an extra guitar it would work. but think about it this way. your sweet 666,its all tears, wicked game all off gls. and the other songs weren't very popular. theres WLADE but do you really want to listen to that slow song? (not saying i dont like it)

Yeah,i like that they play those songs from GLS, but it would be cool to hear something else. even if their not that "popular". What about the heartless, For you or our diabolikal rapture. GREAT songs that works VERY good live. And they should really start to change the set list after ALL these years. I like seeing them live, but it gets pretty boring when each tour has the same set list. I`m happy i saw them live in 2004 when the set list was freaking awsome.

But i agree on the fact that they should play more DSABH songs, remember they played pretending at ruisrock in 2005 it was SO great heariing that one again. But i would also like to hear Lose you tonight, Please dont let it go. a  lot of those songs from that album is great live :)

What's up with it being called Digital Versatile Doom Live - From The Orpheum Theater XXXVII A.S?

The year 37 A.S

I though A.S stood for "Anno Satanas"(Since the formation of the Church of Satan, 1966=year I)
But 1966+37=2003  ???

EDIT
The albumart also says 37 AS
It has to be something in 1970

Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' came out in 1970, just like 'Black Sabbath'

Wasn't the Stefan Lindfors films supposed to be on it as well? Or at least that's what it said in an Heartagram email months ago.

Did it? I only remember it saying they'd be available for the members of the fan club... I might be wrong, though, as I can't be bothered to dig through my emails to check.

That sounds about right. Seems like something HIM would come up with.

edit: I'm liking the cover. Classic with a modern twist. And very Poe.

I like that idea that XXXVII A.S.
stands for 37 Years after sabbath.
it's really clever, and I hope that's what it stands for!!
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD
Post by: 0321 on February 02, 2008, 04:23:03 PM
Since the numbers add up to 37, I would think the special year would be 1971 'cause the DVD will be released in 2008 not 2007.

It's still a cool concept.

But the concert is played in 2007

If a band releases tomorrow a live-album with a concert played in 2007, the album is called "live in 2007", not "live in 2008"

I like the Sabbath idea too :)

I've seen it on a number of sites with '13 A.H.'  I'm guessing they must have changed the title somewhere along the way, just curious what it may have meant. After HIM maybe? Any other thoughts?

AH is the Islamic calendar (anno Hegirae)
After HIM can't be correct, Gas is born in 1971 and he is the eldest

The cover is the blurry the see what it says

A.S, like I said: "Anno Sabbath" (In the year of Black sabbath)
A.H., I would say: "Anno Heavy Metal" (In the year of [the beginning of] Heavy metal)
Because the BS albums in 1970 had a great influence for Heavy metal

I like A.S more, because you can't doubt about a release year, but you can about the beginning of Heavy Metal

Next will be the exclusive fan club premiere of a set of short film collaborations between Ville and Stefan Lindfors, who directed the Funeral of Hearts video. These films will not be see by the public outside the fan club until the CD/DVD release in 2008! Don?t miss these unique films!

I won't be too disappointed if they're not included. I've seen them.   :-\

Oh alright, my bad. Well, considering the fact that they spent money on making these films in the first place, you'd think they'd wanna eventually use them for more than just a treat for the fan club people... But as it says nothing about them being included on the DVD on their website maybe they changed their minds.

AH is the Islamic calendar (anno Hegirae)
After HIM can't be correct, Gas is born in 1971 and he is the eldest

The cover is the blurry the see what it says

What's Gas got to do with it? :) IF at some point they meant to call it "13 A.H." as in "Anno HIM", then it could've been a reference to the year they started out.

The Sabbath thing is better, though, it's more fun and tongue-in-cheek. To me it looks like the cover art says  "37 A.S." in the picture posted earlier. Besides, a Satanic connotation versus an Islamic one? Hmm... wonder which one's more likely to appear on a HIM DVD. ;)
Title: Re: Venus Doom Live CD+DVD

I was reffering to the post of Jacky. She said
Quote
After HIM maybe?
That's is why I posted Gas year of birth, 37 AH wasn't possible because in 1970 the oldest member wasn't even born.
AH is the Islamic calendar like AD is the christian one. And I know HIM won't use the Islamic calendar ;)

But now I see the problem, sorry I didn't notice it was 13 AH. I was still thinking about the 37 AH  ::) Thanks for clearing up Province
Nevermind, 37 Anno Sabbath would be great

i havent any idea of what flip book was until they put the picture, i know flip, i know book but together, no idea, even i cannot tell you the spanish word of flipbook, but i already know the meaning

i would prefer to go to the shop and buy the dvd same day of the release, but here, i think wont be posible, i dont have any news to the release in spain

so the best i can do its order that version with the flipbook tomorrow, and get at the same time the membership and 10% discount
on the release date i will download the audio CD to listen it, and 2-3 weeks later when the packet will arrive, so them i will see the dvd

the only sure its that i want that dvd, i was waiting for years, since the Live Metal (unreleased)

No not as a rule.

I bought the Dark Light limited box with no problems at all.

I bought Venus Doom book there too - the problem with that one came with extra money being charged at UK customs. Items from USA coming in at over 18 UK pounds can be taxed here.

I understand that.  ;)
I'm from Brazil, so almost every HIM item I bought is charged at the customs. For me, there's no difference in buying from a American or British seller.

I wish they'd cut Wicked Game - sick to death of that song.

Yeah really, they should have cut it from the setlist after Love Metal.  The least they could do is a re-arrangement.

I wonder if there is a specific reason as to why RHIMA was cut? Maybe something was fucked up during the recording?
Btw, Warner just charged my credit card for my pre-order, so hopefully that means it will be shipping out a little early!

might need a different codec to play it.

unless the audio is opening on itunes etc then you just got the audio.

if it opens with WMP then look at the bottom where the progress bar is...and it might say something like..."SEARCHING FOR MEDIA" and then "ERROR DOWNLOADING CODEC"

if it does...you'll need an updated version of DivX or the latest WMP.

im not sure...i havent downloaded the video...

but just a few suggestions...

so i got a sorta answer. marci asked around to warner ppl and no one ever said yes that RHIMA was on the dvd. so the answer still stays at no.

very upsetting actually since that is a staple song.i'll understand if it was a technical problem, even though itd b odd that something went wrong both nights.

i did find this clip on youtube of VV telling the sound guy to turn something up on the 11/15 gig. but 11/14 could of been good

"Dearest HIM fan,

The new live HIM DVD/CD "Digital Versatile Doom" is almost here, but a few tweaks still need to be made in order to make it perfect for you.

The new release date will be April 29, 2008.

Because we value your devotion and because you were one of the first people to pre-order "Digital Versatile Doom", we would like to offer you an exclusive online screening of the full live concert from the DVD on the original release date of April 1.

You'll receive a special URL to the online screening in a separate email on March 31st."

My thoughts exactly. Whether it's a dvd, an album or a single - if it's by HIM then it'll most likely be postponed. ::) Should've been expecting it, really. (As easy as it'd be to blame Warner, it was the same with BMG)

I preordered DVD, and am just as disapointed as anyone else about the delay, but, DAMN!  I have to believe that if it's delayed that long, it's because something wasn't up to their standards, and they want to make it the best possible, not that they're trying to felx their muscles.

Being a fan and voicing your opinion on the poor handling of things don't exactly cancel each other out, you know... :) Being a fan of the band doesn't necessarily mean being a fan of the people working for them. For all we know, the band might be equally pissed off by this. And the fact that postponement seems to be the rule rather than the exception these days starts to get tiring at some point. If they released a piece of news saying "We're very sorry to inform you that the DVD has been delayed, but we feel the need to work on it a few extra weeks to guarantee you the best possible product" - or whatever - then I'm sure that far fewer fans would feel as annoyed as they do now. But in reality, most of the fans first heard about it through some random unofficial source and no explanation was ever given. Plus instead of announcing the delay on their website, they just sent an email to those who had preordered the DVD. Unprofessional much?

(Although, providing the online screening to make up for it was a fair move on Warner's part, I'll give them that.)

Oh, I get it! Thanks for pointing that out Province,
I thought that people were ragging on the BAND

I agree that Warner seems to be a bit lax in their part, I've had problems every time I've ordered through them ???

I posted it, because this tracklist has 17 songs, the newspost on TheSacrament.net for example and other websites (including Heartagram.com I know) had a tracklist with 16 songs, without RHIMA.

There was a discussion about the DVD with or without RHIMA (http://thesacrament.net/forum/index.php?topic=3032.msg111082#msg111082) and according to this tracklist from Zillo (March 2008), RHIMA will be on the DVD (again)

Of course I already knew the D.V.D tracklist was posted here before (I posted it) (http://thesacrament.net/forum/index.php?topic=3032.msg109803#msg109803)
Thanks for - karma

The 17-song tracklisting caught my eye as well. I'm afraid the people at Zillo just dug up the setlist for the L.A. gigs, though, and assumed it was going to be the tracklisting for D.V.D. without any confirmation from WB.

Me too, but you never know

I made a small translation/summary of the Zillo interview with Ville about DVD
It's only a part, the rest of the interview is to small to read, I got this from the website
http://www.zillo.de/magazin/mags/042008/magazin_leseproben_042008_him.html
I will try I can find a better scan or buy the magazine
(http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc257/Ava1985_photo/01010015a.jpg)
D.V.D, recorded in the VS etc etc, nice souvenir for the fans who waited for it, but how about Ville?

"I don't like live albums and live DVD's, that is simply my standpoint", he says mischievous
Except "Live after Dark" from Iron Maiden (great), "Live and Dangerous" from Thin Lizzy, and "No sleep til Hammersmith" from Motorhead (both good), He rathers listen to studiorecordings.
He doesn't like just sitting and watching a full 90-minutes live DVD

But since the beginning of the band, people still ask about a live recording. In addition, the recordcompany asks since the day they signed to make a live DVD/CD

Yet, the DVD is not only a gift to the fans and the recordcompany, when Ville was convinced about the recording, he knew it was important to give it something special.
That is why he wanted to recorded in LA. Because of the city and the venue etc
It is an old venue and hopefully that contribute to the fact to you don't focus only on the band.

Title: Re: Digital Versatile Doom Live CD/DVD
Post by: province on March 19, 2008, 02:38:17 PM
So, still not crazy about the idea of a live DVD, it seems. I can totally understand his point of view, though. Live DVDs do tend to be a tad bit boring unless a lot of effort is put into them. I was just reading an interview from before LMA came out and he was like "we don't want to just film a gig and make a DVD out of it like every other band is doing" - but I guess after years of persuasion it's hard to say no.

Thanks for the translation and the link. I was trying to read/understand the original small scan with rather poor results - much easier this way.

Recorded in the "VS" as in "Verenigde Staten"? ;)

Or it could be anything really. Something went wrong in the printing, they found a flaw of some sort on the material and needed to fix it, promotion was overdue... Little things like that can fuck up the whole chain of events, so it's hard to say at this point.

I saw that too, about cdon.com....hmm...I truly hope they've made a mistake (like they usually do) cause me needs the dvd before the end of april otherwise I'll go nuts from waiting this long already  :-\

This is what I meant by unprofessional handling. People are forced to rely on unofficial sources as it seems like too much of a chore to clearly announce the delay on heartagram.com.

No, childindark, it's not a mistake. Get ready to go nuts 'cause it has in fact been postponed till late April, as stated earlier.

Meh, I'm actually slightly disappointed. It was a fairly bland performance. I've seen HIM six times and every performance was more exciting than this one. Shucks...

Not to mention every single one of them looked ridiculous with some of the dumb faces they made. With the exception of Ville, maybe.

EDIT: I may have spoke a little too soon. Ville seems to liven up a bit towards the conclusion of the show and the lights during The Funeral of Hearts were neat.

the song is called Wall of Fire - Monster Magnet
the opening lines are "Well I'm Back, I Got A Cock Made Out Of Platinum"
ville found that wonderful and "4-Way Diablo" is one of his favorite new albums
he said that song alone restored his faith in rock n roll
its all in some magazine published a few months ago
but yea, i was definitely waiting for TV Eye, it caught me off guard, but in a good way

btw:
im aware its dumb to start topics or bring up ideas of band members having drug addictions
but, before "Killing Loneliness", which we know is about heroin and addiction
ville says linde should be hapy cuz there are no solo's in this next song and he's off the hook
after that he then states that "either way, this song relates to Linde, when he is fairly medicated," in a joking sort of way
after the silence he says a quiet 'nah'
whats going on here, i always thought there had to be some reason for Linde being so skinny, other than just his body type
if anyone knows anything, please shed a little light on this
thank you

I still need to buy that live 69 Eyes DVD, and having no job doesn't help matters.

on the official website forums....some dude said he got it in the mail and there are NO videos at all. He said there are only interviews, the concert, pics and fan videos.

I think he is joking around cause this is pretty early to get one in the mail, if he isn't i'm going to highly pissed at Warner Bros. records for their false advertisement.

it said clearly in the e-mail

"DVD ONLY VIDEOS
Bleed Well/ Venus Doom/ The Kiss Of Dawn"

There are a couple songs on youtube to preview, i think they're sleepwalking past hope, passion's killing floor, wicked game, bleed well, wings of a butterfly, your sweet 666, kiss of dawn, and join me.

just search Digital Versatile Doom

I'm a touch annoyed as I just checked the status of my order from HIMonline store and its still "pending" (obviously) - but in the details it said "Despatch date: May 12 2008".

So I've emailed the store to find out more and to see if that date is correct.

i get the same date from here https://www.recordstore.co.uk/him

cud it be another delay???

Saw copies of it at work today. The cover is all silvery. Anyways, RHIMA is on the DVD track listing, but NOT the CD...which is lame. I guess it's cos there was no way to fit the whole show on a CD...but why cut out RHIMA? Poo. The DVD does feature 5.1 PCM audio, which is cool. Although I'm not sure how that would fit on a regular DVD...I guess they didn't need all that much space for the video or extras.

Oh, fuck no!
Breaking street date is a big no-no. My store could be fined and possibly lose "new release" privaleges. I'd lose my job before it got to that point, though, those sorts of shenanigans are not tolerated, especially since I'm in management myself.

from warner's site

"Featuring HIM live from The Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, performing tracks from Venus Doom, Dark Light and more. Go on stage and behind the scenes with Ville and the band as they give one of their most heartfelt shows to date. Also featured on the DVD, watch the journey of HIM's biggest fans as they go to Seattle to meet the band, see the heartagram photo gallery and watch as Ville recounts the journey that was Venus Doom. Digital Versatile Doom also features a second disc, with the full live performance from The Orpheum Theater and the CD/DVD package contains a 16 page booklet or original art and images."

doesnt say promo videos

By the way, I ripped RHIMA from the DVD and posted it in the Audio sharing thread. It's a rad performance and I'm sad it's not on the CD.

i got that one a few minutes ago in a shop here! that is really difficult for me for any HIM relese
and even the price was excelent, just 13,75 euro, that is a real nice price for an release like that

thanks for the pic, the one sold in spain (release date was yesterday) is exactly the same but without the flipbook (even with parental advidsory)
in this way i dont have to wait any delay more and i can see it toomorrow

i can say that is a BRILLIANT release, very nice too see, the booklet, the desing, all perfect, better than in my imagination

The only other thing on the sticker, at least in the U.S., is it mentions the Ville Valo interview. Perhaps they are just saving the music videos for a potential Love Metal Archives 2 in a few years.

well if i remember correctly the guys didnt want to release this dvd (Uneasy Listening compilations too)

i really think this dvd should not have any music videos and they have to keep it for Love Metal Archive. This dvd is a live recording and thats all.

if they keep in this way may be after the next album there will be enought materials for new love metal archive....

lets see
Wings of a butterfly
Killing loneliness
Killing loneliness (USA)
The Kiss Of Dawn
The Kiss of Dawn (colored)
Bleed Well
(may be they fill with Join Me Green Versions)
and 2 more videos from the new album.

something like that...

Actually, with the Uneasy compilations, BMG only wanted to release another "Best Of". Ville did not want that, and that is how the Uneasy CD's came about. Ville chose the tracks for both CDs.

The CD/DVD is identical. The only thing with the limited edition is that you get the flip book, which is in that picture.  The flip part is just a few shots of Ville singing, and Linde playing guitar. Nothing exciting in the least. Heartagram had images of it up.

As far as I can tell, the DVD and CD audio are identical. They did edit out some of the "in between" talk on the CD though, but that's it.

Post by: Danny on May 03, 2008, 10:30:29 PM
I agree it is a really great dvd and cd when it comes to the performance and they all sounded great that night:D
But the extra`s sucks. In the fan gallery thing it wasent even enough photos to fill up during the song so you went thru the set almost twice. And the HIM`s biggest fan thing was just pure bullshit. They could have cut that part out and rather have the Finish documentary on it from 2004 with subtitles. That would be a lot more interesting and you actually see a little bit from their everyday life and backstage stuff and from their rehersal place.
Its nice that we at least got the interview with Ville that was really interesting, but its funny how the sticker on the front says "Band interviews",haha :D
I think its a little bit of a sloppy and lazy production since they just randomly decided to cut out a song(RHIMA) from the live cd and then keep it on the dvd. I wouldent to that if i was a working in a seriously company and knew this was  going to be realesed worldwide. I know its problably because of the lack of space, but still lazy production...

You gotta love Warner Music, haha ::)
Title: Re: Digital Versatile Doom Live CD/DVD
Post by: Wille Wallo on May 03, 2008, 10:51:33 PM
I wish they would have mixed ville's vocals a bit louder in some of the songs, more like parts of songs

when he hits his really low notes he doesn't have alot of volume, they could have easily corrected that and i'm surprised that they didn't

What i really love though is the way the band was free to do things, tons of fill ins, and solos that you don't hear. Mige really got to tear up his bass and it really proves how well he really works with the band. Taking the simple album bass lines and really making them into something else, but never taking away from the song as a whole.

Bravo HIM, now if there were only some deep shadow tracks on there
Title: Re: Digital Versatile Doom Live CD/DVD

The only people who'd know were those that were in attendance those nights. Surely some things were edited out for time constraints. Keep in mind, the DVD was cobbled together from two nights' performances...so some stuff was bound to be lost in translation.
Title: Re: Digital Versatile Doom Live CD/DVD
Post by: Daedalus on May 04, 2008, 04:13:13 PM
No. They edited together footage from both nights to make the concert. The sound recordings are from either night, depending on the song.

He was rather polite with the Crowd that night. He spoke to the crowd in between songs couple of times, maybe three to four minutes in some parts.
The extensive Polished Editing that was done to the Vocals was just absurd, like state above in some parts they didn't or couldn't lift the sound of the Vocals over the rhythmic sections.

I barely remember which night was which.

If you got it from Heartagram, send an email asap. When I first ordered mine, the order wouldn't go through and I email them and they dealt with it within the hour.

Just a question, I know I might seem stupid but was the Orpheum Theatre performance recorded/photographed with the intention of it becoming Digital Versatile Doom? Or was it decided after the performance?

If I'm not wrong, the dates were already set. I mean, they were going to happen in that venue anyway.

But quite some time before the gigs, they decided it'd be good opportunity to record the DVD there.

I've just listened to it, and I think it's.... not that good. Ville's vocal is average, and drums are too loud. Only Linde is just as great as always :) On video, gig is awesome, but when you concentrate only on sound is bit disappointing. Just listen to Sleepwalking recorded in Toronto, that was included on Bleed Well single. It's like 3 times better than recording from L.A. However, that's just my opinion.

Edit:
After listening few times more, it's not that bad. Drums are too loud only in few songs. But really I love only two songs: Poison Girl and Soul on Fire (especially the beginning of SOF). Still I think that Ville's voice is poor, but I realise that he'll never sing like 8 years ago :(

Yes,  that is cuz ville has never worried to care about his voice.     On the live gig they even turned the notes a half step on every song so it's easier for Ville to reach higher notes.

Well when you watch the gig, the band is laughing and joking and it's amusing (certainly makes me smile!). Of course the video enhances the sound. But when it's just the audio, is seems to be missing something that only the video provides.

Though I agree that Linde is amazing!

I'm pretty amazed how Linde improved his playing.  His solos and improvised runs are just espectacular and the only thing he has left is to totally ditch out that damn Wah pedal,.. it's annoying!   :D

Overall,  Mr Lily Lazer has the palms and very loud Hell Yeah in this DVD!!!  100% great guitar.

Well Ville stated that in the interview that he has come out of his shell. I haven't even heard him speak before (Daniel Lioneye singing excluded), I think there is one video where he's speaking Finnish.

It is good to see the new (less shy) Linde!

I think ville's voice feels really edited, you can see it at some points during the concert...you see ville moving away from the mic yet the song still remains like he didn't, and other times when he moves away the song lowers like it's supposed to do...it's kinda sad cause I like it when it's live without much editing, it doesn't matter if he sings false at one point or another, that only makes it more real...

yeah they planned that way ahead of time. it cost money to hire a film crew and all their equipment so you dont have them just follow you around. and you need to discuss what approach you want to take with the filming. plus just like bands book venues ahead of time, you have to book production companies. you can't just decide all that at the last minute

I always think that at concerts but I guess they have to stop at some stage. Just one more, and they play one more, and then we want just one more. Ha, sadly it has to stop eventually.

I noticed the exact same thing, and spend a little while checking each song for the multiple views - but none happened - so I reckon that was yet another omission.
Oh well....  just another fine move from the label removing features....

I still (http://thesacrament.net/forum/index.php?topic=3032.msg109970#msg109970) think the letters mean "After Sabbath".
The two first Black Sabbath albums were released in 1970. The show was recorded in 2007, so.. 1970+37=2007. In that way "37 After Sabbath" makes some sense to me.

Both 'Black Sabbath' and 'Paranoid' are essential to the definition of Heavy Metal and maybe that was what the band was trying to pay tribute... and we all know that Ville considers HIM a "Black Sabbath tribute band of sorts". He doesn't mean it literally but he said to illustrate the impact that Sabbath has had in HIM's music.

They generally just kind of stand around. Their stage set is very simple, and their lights are very much by the book. I realize their budget isn't huge, but The 69 Eyes bring the house down with a much smaller budget.

And as far as an overall concert experience, Muse is king.
