8 songs. Song or Suicide is too short to call it full song. It's like intro to Bleed Well.

Quite nice that we got a few new acoustic versions with the new album. But sad on the other side that we didn't get "real" bonus tracks. I think the cage and venus did a good job last time.

Well maybe they put one or two on the next singles.

Bonus trax are a little let-down!!! Only Bleed Well (Acoustic) is awesome...the remixes are a disapointment to me!

I hope the 60 pages booklet is great at least...otherwise I'm a bit down right now

We got our copies of VD in today at work. They did not change the cover art. There is no text on it, there is a big sticker on the case saying "The new album from HIM (the new logo) featuring The Kiss of Dawn and Passion's Killing Floor" It also mentions the heartagram club on it.
The special edition is neat. It's a little book the size of a cd case, with each CD held onto the inside front and back cover. The booklet is in the middle, bound to the cover. There is again a big sticker on the cover, which blocks the art work, but I assume it's the VD logos.
Also, it was interesting because neither DLL or LICB remixes have special names. They just say "Remix" on the case. Was going to get pictures, but, well, didn't get a chance. I was actually working at work!

Unfortuantly, I'm buying 2 of each edition. I'm such a band whore like that.

What would you do if you held out until VD-Day, then you absolutely HATED the album?

Of course it's unlikely, as it is one of their best...but what if...

I'm hoping mine comes tomorrow. At the very least on or before Tuesday. I don't wanna have to wait around to hear the Bleed Well acoustic. And I refuse to download and listen to it. I've decided to follow JenX's honorable path by not listening to the bonus tracks till I get the CD.

Yes it's the same version as the heartagram limited. Recordstore imported 500 to sell. It's called a UK exclusive coz no other shops are selling that version.

ah, ok.. thanks! ;D

i thought it would be numbered or something like that...

It seems, that at least for the european market that the ltd. edition is really "limited"

I've been in 4 stores today. 2 of them had it listed, but didn't know how many they get and the date! (Exactly as it was with the DL ltd., which was available 2 weeks after the normal edition). The other 2 said that they get only 5 units, but didn't know anything about the release date.

A bunch of questions for the Daedalus one...
With the normal special, what type of paper is used in the booklet?
Is it glossy? Or matt quality (like I imagine the limited specials paper is).
Also, is it only lyrics on the pages... or are there pictures too?

I don't know, alas I don't have mine yet. I just get to look at them every day at work till Tuesday. Which is odd because you have to have a key to get into the electronics stock room, and I don't normally have it. I have to come up with creative ways for needing it. I am going to talk to our entertainment guy about me keeping the shipper case the VDs came in. It has a few big stickers on it saying "HIM VENUS DOOM" and then store related information like barcodes and shit, along with a few warnings about breaking street date. It'd just be neat to keep my VD copies in it.
Our store only has 7 SEs and 15 regulars right now which worries me. We'll probably get more over the weekend, but since I'm buying 2 each myself, that doesn't leave much for anyone else. Our store is a high volume store (number 2 in music and movies sales in the region, WOO!) and if we're only getting that many, it leaves me concerned about low volume stores around the country. However, Target is pushing the CD fairly hard so I expect us to get more.

People do it to us all the time, hell, I'm putting my copies of VD on hold Monday night before I leave work! Ahh the benefits of management!

10 percent discount. I'm spending $55.92 (2 Reg, 2 SE) before sales tax, which brings it up to $60.53. My discount brings it back down to about $54.48 after tax. 6 fucking dollars saved!

a . its not leather
b. my special edition disc doesnt work in my computer, or cd player. just on my dvd player.
c. the pictures were just printed pictures, not real photos.
d. i dont feel it was worth the 50.00., maybe 30.00 usd

Mine were a guitar, a soundboard with clutter and then a creepy one with these weird baby doll heads.
I like the book. It's bigger than the Dark Light book, and it's just plan friggin neat.
Some quick snap shots...
Oh, and this is my first time hearing the bonus tracks...LICB is interesting, but I really like Dead Lovers' Lane!

I am very disappointed in this... I do love the album but this was completely over-priced. It would've been the right price if it were actually leather but it wasn't. Their first description of the edition as changed so much... warner just wants our money.

In all this album isn't worth no more than Dark Light internet edition was. It has less stuff, and less songs... fake Polaroids don't make up for shit. anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

Mine were a guitar, a soundboard with clutter and then a creepy one with these weird baby doll heads.
I like the book. It's bigger than the Dark Light book, and it's just plan friggin neat.
Some quick snap shots...
Oh, and this is my first time hearing the bonus tracks...LICB is interesting, but I really like Dead Lovers' Lane!

i agree, thats why i feel its only worth 30.00 bc the orginal dicription was when i ordered it, was much different.
it stated leather bound book, and it wasnt leather. there are 1,000,000,000 cows in India. i dontt hink they would have a hard time getting leather.
The pictures. i thought they would have been exclusive. but no, everyone got the same 3 pictures.
Even whats in the book is much of a let down.

the Dark Light tin, was A. Half the price, B. you seemed to get more

i was chatting to my friends about it. he stated i should write Warner Bros, a letter stating, since they only pretty much sent what was half of the discription, they should send half of the money back..lol

but what i am happy with is a new HIM cd that kicks fucking ass.

But seriously fuck Warner Bros. A. They push back the album for an unnessary 2 months. B. Just are a greedy bunch of cunts.

I need a quick answer to this one please...
Coz ONE shop in town has the sepcial edition.

Is it completely different art-wise than the limited?
Is it actually worth me getting, since my limited is on it's way?
if its not to much more then go for it!

The 3 pictures are not all the same... I got different ones than that picture shows. I got the one with the two heads, the desk with all that crap, and a picture of an Owl.

My question is... why couldn't they just fucking add those 3 bonus songs on to the first CD? Makes no sense to waste 2 CDs on 12 songs  :-\

I didn't really know where to post this, so I'll just put it here since it's VD related.

Apparently Stefan Lindfors (i.e. the director of the FOH video) is now in the process of making some sort of "art clips" for HIM. To loosely quote Lindfors' words -

"The world is now changing in a way that the future generations won't only be watching TV. What it means is that, music promotion and the music video format is about to change. Material is also wanted for websites such as Youtube and Myspace. Warner Brothers has now shown interested in working with me and making artistic illustrations for the band rather than making visuals for a certain song."

To my understanding, they've been filming material already as he spent the weekend in Greece with the band and also flew over to London on Monday.

I, for one, find the news fairly interesting 'cause a) he did a great job with FOH and b) the band seems to be excited about this as well, which isn't always the case with other promo-related projects (or 'projekts' for that matter ::)).

everyone got the same 3 photos, the desk, the cherub heads, and the owl.
they way it was worded that it was a real poloroid, not a printed one.

Just a little thing i posted at himclub,it annoys the crap out of me:

Holy crap, they got a 2 on the dice in the norwegian dagbladet newspaper:Dagbladet (http://"http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2007/09/18/512374.html")

But what an fucking idiot. He just start to complain about their concert at Valle Hovin with metallica(Which by the way was GREAT ;)) Which has noting to do with the record at all. And the says that they managed to a few catchy ballads and radio friendly rock. And this comment is just pathetic:
"Most of the time goes to break thru the heavy material that most likely is Ville Valo`s miserable, hopeless and egotrip life. Believe me, its not worth the effort"

Sorry for the bad translation, but he uses very difficult Norwegian that is hard to translate into english! But this is so typical norwegian music reviewers...Everthing they write is based on their own opinion and not on what they hear >:(

Another tiny point on the normal special edition cover art...

I really like the:   VENUS DOOM HIM SIX    symbol graphics.

Me too, I like the SE cover better than the painting. But don't get me wrong, the painting is nice too.

Yeah, they all looked at me weird at work today when I bought 2 of each version. I always like to have one to open and look through, and one to keep sealed. It's fucking expensive though! I also picked up the Superman/Doomsday DVD, to round out Doomsday Tuesday!

...but people here have not got the same 3 photos. There so far have been two different sets.

Also in the original wording it said "leather"  and  "polaroid" in quotes... meaning like.

Here is the original wording gif:

Leather? I'd say cardboard. It doesn't look leather to me. I'm disappointed with the book and Polaroids. It was definitely overpriced.  :(

uhhhhhh im so disappointed .  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

didnt they say its a journal . meaning with entries in it, they advertised on the site like ville wrote in it, talking about Venus Doom and his love for art

WHERE IS THIS??? i dont freakin see it, its the same artwork in the Special Edition, so we pay extra $30 for a booked version of the special edition???

WTF seriously WTF

"For HIM's newest album release, Ville Valo gives heartagram a look deep inside the creation of Venus Doom Combining his love for visual arts with the music that is Venus Doom, Ville Valo created what's best described as a mad man's diary. Over 30 pages of Ville's personal drawings, photographs and journal entries are housed within an embossed book that also contains the album, a second disc with 3 bonus tracks, parchment sleeves and Polaroid's. Venus Doom:The Journal is a limited edition creation that is only available at heartagram.com. Click here for more information."

That's great!
How do we find out where it is in the charts in the UK, since TOTP's has finished?

In a way that's a step backwards, though, 'cause HIM have gone number 1 with every album since RR. But as Ville said before the release, it'd be a healthy blow to his ego if VD didn't make it to number 1. :) Good job nonetheless.

well greetings guys,    I need to say something...

I just received the limited edition of VD and the only thing I can think of is...

SHIT!!!!

pardon my french

damn cardboard, leather my ass,  the package came all beaten up, I dont fully understand the "art" in the "journal",  the same printed "polaroids" with that weird alien looking Linde.

So I feel ripped off,     I kept faithful to them and I paid $60+ on this thing that should cost $20.

At least the music is good.

There's been a few people saying the Warners packaging was bad and damaged - was the journal beaten up too?

Mine came fine. I almost wish it came beaten up, then I could hound them for a refund. The packaging is extremely lackluster, the album is nothing special, and the bonus tracks are bullshit.

And i also got the special edition too...funny story by the way. Me and my class friend was down and warner here in oslo to to a short interview with a guy that worked there,it was for a school project. And when we where done i just mentioned a Kiss of dawn singel that he had laying around and that i was a big fan. And he said i`ll see if i can get you one,but insteed he returned with the the normal jewelcase cd and the special editon and just handed it to me and said "here you go. they where just laying around in the office", ;D

It came in 12th on Billboard. Dark Light debuted at 18, so it's doing fairly well.

I think it will drop, than when they are back with the touring (I hope) it will be back on the Top 50.

Because they really Effed up Fans in America.
Not just Touring wise, but Package, Material.

Good luck this project, since I can just see them trash talking this Cd next album to come.

Ville will talk about how "heavy" the next album will be, comparing it to Slipknot, The Berserker, and/or From Autumn to Ashes (and Black Sabbath), then it'll sound relatively similar to every other CD they've produced thus far. I would really like them to expand their sound.

I went out and bought the 12 track version at Best Buy. I really like the artwork.

I put a few hundred dollars on my debit card today, so I might reorder the book tomorrow. The way people were talking about it makes me a little iffy though.

I finally got my LE...and i had to pay 8.50 Euros extra charge...but this has nothing to do with Warner but with the postal system in Europe, at least in Germany!

However I paid it, and I must admit I can't understand all the criticism abot that version...

1. there are 60 pages!!! like they told us...not 30...

2. the layout is very cool...much better than Dark Light sheet metal box

I'm fully satisfied...and the album is really GREAT!!!

I agree.

Everyone has is own taste on songs.   Bleed Well is a great song,  but for me, my favorite keeps in Kiss of Dawn,  but thats only me.

The thing that matters is that is a great album.

Actually I just saw them (all) for the first time today.
It seems they are using mixes  and raising the sound for the Videos.
Some scenes were just cut to and pasted in nearly all of the videos (Burton playing the Piano or Mige using the Bass not like his normal dropped style just so he could fit in the scene).

If these are released on the soon to be created DVD than that should be nice as extras I think. But not if they are planning to use those 30 second stuff.
The art looks way better than the current videos they have been doing for the last four years, which is quite sad.

The guys that do that style of animation create much better work than a lot of the official videos. I think And Love Said No had it right.

Some dipshit on ebay who doesn't even know what the product they are selling is. It's just the 2 disc special edition and two HIM pint glasses thrown in. You could and probably still can buy them at Hot Topic or Spencers. Hell, that 2 disc still has the Target price sticker on it! He/She probably paid $15.98 for it during release week and now wants $44 for it and two glasses that sold for like 10 bucks.

this time they only do cdr promos in normal case, and as i know they are even more rare than with dark light becuase that time were given to lot of music magazines and this time i'm only sure that were given to warner companys at different countries

probably you have noticed to, how less promotion was given to kiss of dawn, with woab there was tons of printed promos in all the countries, even i have two different printings of the killing loneliness promo, are the same but the geman print have more quality on the printing

this time as much you can find one kod promo in uk, that is just one of those cheap cdrs with an insert in a gelatine case, just a copy of the artwork (if we can name as artwork) of the american promo that is also rare but at least is a printed cd (i think)

with dark light the band did a mini-tour in europe presenting and promoting the album, but this time know
for example 10 days ago or so ville and mige were at Madrid doing some interviews, but again they wont be on any spanish tv program
with dark like they werent on tv too but at least that time i know the label tryed to find some appareances on tv here
last time this happened here on spain, was with love metal, and that was too much time ago

I don't know if it is because of the country I live, but it's weird that people from the UK had already received and I who live in in Costa Rica (Central America) have not, I suppose it shipped from the US, and I think its logical that people on the same continent receive first that people from others.. well i think...

You should check with you courier also and send a mail to warner to have the shipping status.    I live in Guatemala and got it 5 days after the release.

Warner's costumer service is a shit so send the mail right away so you can get the reply sooner.
