Kiss Of Dawn is the first single!!!

H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo told Spinner.com that the band's upcoming album, "Venus Doom", is a darker and heavier effort than its previous CD, 2005's "Dark Light". Valo explained, "There's...a lot of SABBATH and old-school METALLICA (in there). I wanted the album to be more aggressive, heavier and more out there."
The new direction also allowed Valo to switch up vocally. "I wanted to sing lower — use my baritone a lot more," he said. "When all those influences come together, it's like, 'I wanna do that [Mark] Lanegan, Leonard Cohen-y type of vibe.'"
Valo added that the disc's tentative first single, "Kiss of Dawn", was inspired by the suicide of one of his best friends. Valo said, "The whole song is a tribute to him. It's also a love song. I love that dude. He was a great friend of mine. We hung out and had great f***ing conversations. It's a celebration of life, rather than death."

There have been close people who told me they have heard the album, they have mixed emotions. Some like it because it is "heavy" and some like it because of the mix of Pop and Non-Radio friendly style it defines something a bit more loose yet still confides the HIM Pop crap they have released.
I spoke to someone to get me the Promo, since I just heard it was out couple of days ago. Since I love this band so much, expect it on ebay too. hahaha.
It usually isn't that hard to get their stuff now since they made it easier for US Magazines to talk about them.

Just something i dont understand....how do ppl hear the full cd yet its still not on the internet? Im not trying to be picky or anything but I was just wondering haha. And I hope Kiss of Dawn is heavier then ever...Passions Killing Floor isn't even that heavy. I remember in an interview with Valo he said "Dark light is going to be heavier then ever!" ....yet it wasn't ! So i hope he follows through with this one!

It's heavier than I expected... Reminded me of some Love Metal songs but with heavier guitars and the drums are just awesome! The production and mastering are really shining!!!

Good chances of getting at least a few songs. I mean think about it... it will either leak all at once, or little by little. Maybe none at all. PKF only leaked so quickly cos of Transformers.
Since -Kiss of Dawn- will be the first single... it may be leaking any day/minute now. And it I am guessing it might have a good live version of Dead Lovers Lane on it. :)

i really think it sounds like a cool song at least on the verse. like the guitars and the little bass part to mige, but what the hell happend on the chourse ??? Sounds like the worst crappy pop verse. that kind of ruined the rest of the song.
But that is the best i`ve heard from Venus Doom so far :)

The sheet music is simply for the vocals, not the guitar, the rhythm part is above which seems like your typical pop song one can only assume that this was just done in two days to come with that part.

well when i was at wembly valo dealt with it really well and everyone says there setlist was shorten but i think its just because they played songs straight after each other and wanted to get it done and over with

All I can tell you is that Radio Friendly can deliver something new and yet casual.
The Melody is something Ville does, the rhythmic part is very L.M. influenced.

It sounds extremely forced. It doesn't sound like you can hit the notes as low as Ville, so perhaps you could step it up an octave. Not saying I can do better; I am by no means a singer.

Judging by the youtube live flicks, the verse part of Kiss of Dawn reminds me of later Alice in Chains stuff, which in my books is a good thing. The chorus leaves me quite puzzled though. Gotta hear the album version before running into conclusions.

yeah but that could just be a coincidence don't know if i spelt that right but oh well lol i still would like to hear the performance that he did at that dildo party ever since that tiny snippet of under the rose acoustic before dark light the acoustic version sounded awesome as hell. but anyway kiss of dawn sounds amazing as hell live so i can't wait to see the video and hear the studio version. i'm kind of more excited to hear the studio of dead lover's lane though, the give it a name recording burton didn't play the piano licks like in the newer ones and i think that they actually make the song much better especially in the chorus it gives it alot of feeling.

I really like this new song... but what I don'tl ike is the chours. so it's a bit of a 50/50 situation. Dead Lovers Lane is in my opinion the best track of the ones we heard so far.

Okay here is the deal.
I do not know the secrect code. But If you use certain procedures, you do not need to have one.
Im a Mac user so rather than the normal Internet Explorer i use the program Opera to navigate webpages
What i did was go to
Veiw > Style > and checked Accessibility layout and Disable Forms
What i got was i was able to click on the little vidcap of the Kiss Of Dawn video and it brought me to iTunes and i was able to purchase the video from there.
So if you just enter Itunes, Search HIM, and go to the music videos tab. Kiss Of Dawn is an option, i need to use my debit card and purchase the song, rip the audio and will try and post an mp3 of it by tommorow, as i dont have work.

I don't think the secret key is for the iTunes link. You can get there by just clicking the image. It's probably for a streaming version of the video.

You can remove the drm protection with Tunebite, but I think it has to be done from the computer that has the license for the video.

The only text in the video (and you see it several times) are the words "de selby." this is the name of a FICTIONAL doctor, philosopher and scientist from the novel "The Third Policeman" by Flann O'Brien. Having read the novel in an english lit class (and having a head for dumb useless info), I remembered that he wasn't that important of a character, and it wasn't until I went to good ole wikipedia that i remembered why--De Selby never actually appeared as a character in the novel, however he was mentioned and referenced several times, much like the fact that "De Selby" appeared in the video several times. However, we all know that the director for "Kiss of Dawn" was the same for "Wings of a Butterfly" video, and that this one had a bunch of CGI in it as well, and you can tell that it's the exterior shots of the outside gate of the castle that was done with CGI, and the gate had "De Selby" written at the top. Therefore it's kind of fitting the the name of a fictional CGI gate and castle that aren't really there is named for a character from O'Brien's novel that wasn't really there either. My guess is the key lies in the actual novel "The Third Policeman." If you notice, all throughout the video, one of the guys is reading a book. Whew! Okay now I'm done! :D

Yeah the one I bought on ITunes does get slow. I had seen it on MySpace videos and was like. WTF! And then bought it, and yeah I believe it's supposed to get slow. Had a conversation with a friend of mine and she thinks it's supposed to match up with the "paranormal" theme they have going a little bit in the video. The song is VERY edited for the video, the album version is nearly 6 minutes long and it does NOT warp anywhere in the song! That was clearly a conversion error when the video was uploaded!

Then came the video and this proper version (although it's cut & short - according to Miltos). I still didn't like the song initially.

Ths solo is not cut, it's the same in the album version. Some parts are repeated twice though like the pre-solo part and then after the song "ends" like the video edit there is a kinda different instrumental part that fades out with Ville singing "the kiss of dawn" in the background...

That's just some bit of warping that happened to some copies of the video ripped from itunes. If you download it directly from itunes it won't have that problem.

I bought the vid from iTunes yesterday and I must have watch it at least 50+ times since then ;D
The song itself is very good and I like the fact that Ville uses his low voice in some parts, but the video just doesn't make the song justice.
The video reminded too much of the WOB video...it could have been done differently (by not using the blue filter throughout it) and better (it could have had a 'tragic-love' story that related to actual song and Ville would have been the narrator in it ) :-\

Anyone that has purchased the video from iTunes and has a modern & powerful enough PC can use a program called Tunebite to convert the video into .wmv file... This program is not free, if you're interested to help us get a clean version you can contact me cause I have the program cracked...
The original QuickTime locked .m4v file is 640x480, h264 around 1600kbps with 128kbps AAC audio. That's very high quality and it can create a good result after conversion!

Two reasons:
1) Original is interlaced so that means more video info, re-compressed uses de-interlacing which omits some video detail...
2) Original is higher bitrate and resolution! It's normal for some scenes to pixelate like that cause of DVD-S lower bitrates... :P
Since many people will have "problems" playing the original one, post the re-compressed .avi file and they'll be happy! :P

yep thats true. deinterlacing filters blending the picture.
the original mpeg is 704x576 and ~2557kbps and yeah its not perfect. there are some other music channels which are better quality level so i can try to capture the video from them but for now thats it.
the avi is 640x480 ~1885kbps bitrate

OK, with the valuable help of a certain someone (you know who you are and I thank you 1000 times) I managed to play & convert the video myself with excellent results. This doesn't mean that we don't want the other captures/versions too! But this way anyone can choose the version that suits him/her best.
My re-encoding is the same resolution as the original but with the following specs:
Windows Media Video Professional 640x480 pixels @ 4.5mbps
Windows Media Audio 9.2 @ 192kbps CBR
The filesize is 83.5 megabytes!!! :D ;D ;)

Amazon is really pissing me off. I pre-ordered the KOD Maxi a few weeks ago, and the release date was listed as Aug 24th. Now the release date shows September 1. My order still says it will ship out on the 27th, though.
I found it at CD universe for 3 bucks cheaper and they say it's releasing on the 28th, and mine will ship out that same day. So now I've got two preorders going, and I'll cancel whichever doesn't ship out first. Frickin pain in the ass.
Also, someone on the official forums is posting that Hot Topic will have an exclusive U.S. KOD single this Tuesday. It has two tracks, the album version and a demo version of KOD. Supposedly. We'll see come Tuesday!

I really like the demo... and it's the first time I've heard a "fuller" version of this track. I liked the ending which was missing from the single version.

You can find them on ebay for 16.99 plus shipping. Might come out a bit cheaper. I would hold off for a little bit and wait for ebay prices to drop.

I'm sure you didn't have a whole lot of options, but paying as much as $16 for a single is ridiculous. That's just about as much as an album.

It's an import. That's pretty much standard for any import maxi singles. Usually though we can get U.K. versions pretty cheap through recordstore.co.uk/him, but other Euro ones are expensive.

It seems almost like it was made to match Transformers. Theres a very digital quality to it. It's not bad, but it seems almost too short to me. Its 3:45 and as we know the album one is 5:12.

I have The Kiss of Dawn-single, it's finnish version and it included radio-edit's of The Kiss of Dawn and Venus Doom. Pretty good song, but it's can be sound boring if you listen it very much. Demo version are cool too.

It's more a thing you see when not looking too closely... and if you put the two vinyls at an angle to each other. I won't spoil it incase you decide to explore again.
Also it might just be me seeing things where things don't exist (wouldn't be the first time), although in my defense, my friend saw the same thing.
Oh trust me I was looking like a mad man.
I turned it into a 30 degree angle to see if a face or objects would display on the sleek side.
I stopped because some indie girl stared at me because I was checking out the vinyl too slowly and I was in front of the new 45's section.
Next time I go I will purchase them eventually.
But thank you for wanting to check me out while I did that.
