Title: Passion's Killing Floor
Post by: SmokeAndMirrors on June 07, 2007, 09:32:15 PM
It's official now that it's the first single. It'll be on the new Transformers movie soundtrack, releasing on July 3rd from Warner Brothers. Chances are it'll leak before Heartagram lets us in on our "special way" to listen to it.

Jen, you are right about Transformers. I'm kinda shocked they are gonna be on that soundtrack. I wonder if the song will turn up in the movie???

I guess this means that the PKF shirt I just bought off ebay may actually be legit! Hahaha!

I wish! :)
The back supposedly has a heartagram on it along with "Passion's Killing Floor". The front looks decent enough and it was only $16.

Yup, HIM and 3 other bands on the Projekt Revolution tour are going to be on this soundtrack (Linkin Park, Taking Back Sunday, and Julien-K)

You know, this is probably why the U.S. label delayed the album. They wanted to throw the first single on the Transformers soundtrack first.

Transformers? WHY???? :o I would have never thought of HIM and Transformers going together. That's really odd. It possibly also means that PKF is gonna have a movie tie-in video depending on how major the song is in the film. urk

Transformers kick ass.  The movie is supposed to be huge, so this is definitely good news for HIM.  Neat concept idea of the band transforming into cars 'n shit...think Bam will direct the wideo?

I think Ville would turn into a 10-speed bike given how skinny he is.
Linde would turn into a crotch rocket.
Mige would turn into a truck
Gas would turn into an SUV
Burton would turn into a plane?

Of course, it may not be the lead single for the soundtrack so the video may not be related, but it's a thought.

I don't know why I found this so funny. ;D

Now I hope they do make of video of them transforming/performing.

Apparently the Goo Goo Dolls song on the soundtrack is the single, so there might not be a tie-in video. You never know, though. BTW I got my PKF shirt today...here's the back of it. It's a neat shirt. It's made by Bravado so either Hot Topic or Spencers sell it. I wonder if that heartagram is the supposed "new heartagram" they were hyping for a while?

You know, this is probably why the U.S. label delayed the album. They wanted to throw the first single on the Transformers soundtrack first.

I'm thinking that the label is probably trying to get HIM popular in the U.S., even moreso, as how Evanescence got popular.  Putting them in a major movie soundtrack a couple months before the actual album comes out, to get buzz and hype for the album's release.

I would have assumed it was PKF... but then at the end of that writing it says:
"Dead Lovers Lane" (video).
So it could be that. Unless they're going to put DLL video on the cd?

Yeah, I think they were going for DLL on CD. And PKF being recorded soon.

If you read the article the part where it says video is just a link to the youtube video of DLL. They aren't implying the video for DLL will be on Venus Doom.

I can see on the side of that picture that you're listening to it (I assume). Seems real to me, but it's crazy to think that a music website in which you have to pay per download, just like iTunes and the rest of them, has the song this early. One bad thing about having high blood pressure is that when you get so excited about something, it feels as if your heart's gonna explode. Smoking probably doesn't help either.

I thought the same thing too. I laughed at the latter comment.

Here it is people, it sounds great I will let you all judge....I love me deviousness at conning pay per sites hehe.

I will post it in the Audio Section too.  If anyone prefers another upload source just say and I will upload there.

Lyrics:

It's poetry carved in flesh
This beautiful Hell of ours
To the deadliest sin we confess
(Tears of joy fill our eyes)

We are safe (where this fear takes?)
My ? prophecies of doom

My heart's a graveyard, baby
And to evil we make love
On our passion's killing floor

In my arms you won't sleep safely
And of lust we are reborn
On our passion's killing floor

At first kiss the seeds of hatred are sown
And back into darkness we flee
(To tear our hearts out)

We are safe where all fates fail
The lively side of our tomb

Chorus

(Pulses unchecked) (I can't figure out the rest of this part)

Chorus x2

And now I have a phone call from Caleb, so now I can't do anymore lyrics.

Also, if you guys want to fight, there are a reasons for PMs. Since this topic is probably about to become quite popular since the MP3 is being passed around, it'd be nice not to have pages of arguing; there's enough of that already.

To the deadly sin we confess
tears of joy through our lives

My heart's a graveyard baby

on our passions killing floor
In my arms you won't sleep safely
and of lust we are reborn
on our passions killing floor

At first kiss the seed
of hatred are sown
back into darkness we'll flee
to tear our hearts out
we are safe where all fates fail
the light inside of our tomb

My heart's a graveyard baby
and to evil we make love

I'm actually fairly surprised. I like the new track a lot. It's definitely a departure from their latest effort. As opposed to getting softer and softer, this song's well balanced; containing heavier guitar riffs and an unrelenting "bridge," meanwhile mixing in pop elements we've come to love and expect from HIM. The track also has a menacing quality to it. Very dark.

Bravo. Bring on Venus Doom.

wow, that song actually gives me some hope! it took me a while to realize that i really didn't like DL... good here and there but ultimately a HUGE letdown. this is a good song though, sounds like there focusing on the SOUND, and being a ROCK band again... the only criticism i have is ville's usual histrionics at the end of the song.

in the end though, the real star of this song is linde. fookin' great riff.

Definately agree with you there.  I have a feeling Venus Doom could be his big moment in HIM.  So excited to hear about the solos and riffs on the record.

i think it sounds like dark light :|

I think it is does have a link to DL but thats due to the lack of solo and similar vocals on Behind The Crimson Door.  But it was reported that this was going to be the most DL sounding song and I still think its better so whey  ;D

(c'mon... where's inferno with the lyrics already!) :P
haha, I was a bit late this time =P everyone tries to beat me these days... I'm pretty sure I got the quiet part close to what it is... Ville's voice is different on this song for some reason, like it's masked or something. I noticed that if I turn my volume down just a little the lyrics don't match up but when I turn it up you can hear a lot more than before especially the whisper part and the very end.

Ville wrote most of the riffs for this album, when Linde broke himself last winter, according to Gas. Don't know about this song in particular, but Ville really contributed to the guitars on this one.

does he usually do that though i dont remember where i read this but i remember reading an interview where valo said that he usually write alot of the music.. i think it was when DL was coming out
Title: Re: Passion's Killing Floor

My guess is that Ville does 75% of EVERYTHING. The other 25% is probably input after Ville's presented them with something. I don't think they have much to do with the "writing process".

A lot of people are pointing out the DL sounds; Venus Doom is the successor to Dark Light, afterall. I think they're using that DL/cheesy 80s sound a bit more wisely this time, rather than go the pop route of the previous album.

I agree with that.  You can notice a vague DL element there but they seem to have developed it into something really rockin'.

I'm on a Mac, and I got it straight away with no problems. There was a link here when SolitaryHeartache first posted it (about 5 or 6 pages back)... also there was a megaupload link somewhere, which also works for Mac.

Edit - ok, so the original link has run out, so forget about that one.

I also posted a link that is uploaded on The Sacrament server in the Audio Section.  :)

does anyone else feel like the lyrics have dropped off in the past two albums?

i dont know, it just seems like he's trying too hard to use big words and dark terminology, whatever happened to the simpler days . . .
______________________________________________________________

on a different note, i'm not all that impressed with the song -  it sounds like DL, just with the guitar turned up and a "breakdown" thrown in the middle . . . (and i use the term "breakdown" loosely)

Ville's vocab has expanded. Perhaps he wants to create more complicated and in-depth illusions with his words rather than make everything completely straight forward. Or perhaps he's holding a thesaurus right next to him as he writes  ;) I think it's for the better that he changes things up a bit; I don't want to hear the exact same thing over on every album.

I don't know if anyone has posted these yet but it's the lyrics to Passion's Killing Floor. Let's just say I love HIM and have way too much time on my hands that I listened to the song over and over until I got the lyrics perfect.

Passion’s Killing Floor

It's poetry carved in flesh
It's beautiful hell with us
To the deadly sin we confess
Tears of joy fill our eyes

We are saved with this biggoties
By our prophecies of doom

My hearts a graveyard baby
And to evil we make love
On our passion's killing floor
In my arms you won’t sleep safely
And of lust we are re-born
On our passion's killing floor

At the first kiss the seeds
Of hatred are sown
Back into the darkness we flee
To tear our hearts out

We are saved where all fates fail
That lied inside of our tomb

My hearts a graveyard baby
And to evil we make love
On our passion's killing floor
In my arms you won’t sleep safely
And of lust we are re-born
On our passion's killing floor

My hearts a graveyard baby
And to evil we make love
On our passion's killing floor
In my arms you won’t sleep safely
And of lust we are re-born
On our passion's killing floor

My hearts a graveyard baby
On our passion’s killing floor
And to evil we make love
On our passion’s killing floor

looking at the lyrics now, i guess there aren't that many big words....

still, i just feel that it doesnt flow as well as some of his older lyrics, ville's old writings would create a story that weaved through the whole song, now it just seems like each line is its own senseless "trying to sound goth" rambling . . .

So he never allowed to try a new writing style?
I think his lyirc writing has gotten better with each almub. It's more poetic and less cheesy. (yes you have to addmit the earlier stuff was a bit cheesy still love it though!) So I guess it's a matter of opion. To me it's beauitful and dark and exactly like HIM is. (to me)
And I think the mixing is much better on it. I can hear guitar!!! WOW! Linde didn't die! (Sorry, I hated the poppy mixing on DL)

The intro is just like a remix of WOAB-intro.

The intervals are similar to WOAB but thats it

Passion’s Killing Floor

It's poetry carved in flesh
This beautiful hell with us
To the deadly sin we confess
Tears of joy fill our eyes

We are when this fears...
...prophecies of doom

We are (safe/saved?) where all fates fail
The light inside of our tomb
Fixed some things that didn't make sense gramatically.

I got these lyrics straight from Ville, so I know they're right:

We all live in a yellow submarine
A yellow submarine
A yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
A yellow submarine

Alright. Enough of that.

It's poetry carved in flesh
This beautiful Hell of ours
To the deadliest sin we confess
(And tears of joy fill our eyes)

We are safe where this fear takes
My out-there prophocies of doom

My heart's a graveyard, baby
And to evil we make love
On our passion's killing floor

In my arms, you won't sleep safely
And of lust we are reborn
On our passion's killing floor

At first kiss, the seeds of hatred are sown
And back into darkness we flee
(To tear our hearts out)

We are safe where all fates fail
The lively side of our tomb

[CHORUS]

(Pulses unchecked
Everyone already is dead
All we know has been crucifered)

[CHORUS x2]

Forever more

i agree completly, i was slightly dissapointed with the song as it sounded alot liek dark light, but it grows on me the more i listen to it!
i was expecting something ALOT heavier, it would be amazing if they brought out something like GLSV666

with the lyrics i kinda agree to, the "my hearts a graveyard baby" bit its abit :/ but i guess it fits the song but it's not somethign i'd say that they'd usuualy write

I hope to hear Gas rub Mayonaise over all that fragile body of his.
Those few pesos that I have are pretty much worth every cent-avo.
:P

No, the opening Riff has the Lose You Tonight opening Riff.

Just by ear (I know this is going to be wrong), but I hear Bmb to Cmaj13. I don't have a guitar with me nor have I heard the full song, this is just the first minute and a half of what I heard.

Not really expecting anything great out of t his band, so far they have accomplished that much.

Just when I finally get my good pair of headphones out of my truck (was lazy before) and I figure out the lyrics that I wasn't sure of, I see this post. I believe it is all correct, had it written down and he has exactly what i do EXCEPT for the very end... he clearly doesn't say "That's right" He says "It's the mourning that kills" turn your speakers up and you'll hear it. AND the whisper part... "Pulses unchecked" works but "Everyone already is dead" doesn't fit, and since "Crucifered" isn't a word i doubt that's it either.

This is how I hear it...

Pulses unchecked
Everyone who erased
Who all you know has ???

Can't seem to figure out that last bit at all, and right before "Everyone who erased" I hear a "K" sound... can't make sense of that either.

Whoa. That's crazy. When you listen to it at a lower volume it's "that's right", but when you turn it up like you said, it says, it's: "it's the mourning that hurts". Also, there is a typo, since "is" in "everybody already is dead" should be "was". As far as crucifered goes, look it up on Wikipedia.

You have to have 150 posts, and then Jay gives you part of the number.
Next there's a really hard test (set by Ville himself) to see if you're a true fan.
The rest of the number is given to you if you pass the test.

(EDIT... Jay, delete this post if I've given away too many secrets!)

After that, your posting power should be revoked, woman!  But actually, the test just got harder.

If you remember question 53 was a bitch to begin with, but now it asks you to specify the day of the week that particular song was written, not just the year.  I'll give you a hint: It's not Tuesday.

Isn't it annoying when people do that? If I were famous and random people came up to me and were like " I know everything about you!! I love you!" and all that I would be freaked out. But they handle that kind of stuff a lot better then most musicians. A lot of them are jerks. I feel bad for the dude running the Myspace and stuff though....

All I can think of more now is how the fuck can Linde hurt himself so much?
I have heard news that almost every vacation he has an injury here and there.
But to injure your arm so that Ville does most of the jamming in the rehearsals, how must that be for the album! hahaha.

I can only picture the Interview of Ville from the early stuff when he responded that he did the intro to "The Beginning of the End" (I want to say that). That he was waiting for Linde to show up, but in the end he ended up doing the intro himself, by using a used mini amp running through his pedal. Though Ville admits he want it to be "shitty" with low range sound running through the speaker since Linde was too good of a guitar player he decided to do it himself.

Those are the sort of odd things I like hearing in Interviews, the creation and the breakdown of songs.
Like Marilyn Manson has done one if not the oddest shit when it comes to recording.
Going out in a Thunderstorm in L.A. to sing the Fight Song vocally only to sound that heavy.
Playing a lead pipe against an aluminum thing for the song "You, Me and the Devil Makes Three".
To do the song of "Heart Shaped Glasses" was just the most bizarre I've heard and if you listen to his vocals he did a perfect job using his pipes to do the backings for the whole track through. That is pure talent.
Fascinating small details that many might not capture at first if you aren't into detailed recording like him.

IGN reviewed the Transformers soundtrack, and they had interesting things to say about PKF.
"Of course in true soundtrack style, there's a few leftfield choices tossed in for good measure. In this case there's European goth/glam/metal maestro HIM comes with a Billy Idol-meets-Sisters of Mercy slant on "Passions Killing Floor," a bombastic slab of down tempo gloom pop. It's atmospheric beyond belief, that's for sure. "

They also listed thier favorite songs off the album, with PKF being the top choice!

"Definitely Download:
1. "Passions Killing Floor" - HIM
2. "Second To None" - Styles of Beyond
3. "End of the World" - Armor For Sleep
4. "Technical Difficulties" - Julien-K
5. "Transformers Theme" - MuteMath"

Actually I got a bit disapointed over the new song and like someone said earlier about WOAB, that's the first thing that popped up in my head when I heard the intro riff. Other than that, it reminds me of Face of God.

So yes! The whole songs smells Dark Light and the only thing I actually like about this song is the bridge-thing at the end. The lyrics are a bit cheezy to...

I Really hope that, when Ville said that this album was going to be really heavy, he wasn't pointing at some 15sec bridges in the songs. I thought he said this album was going to be more like GLS666, but this song aint even near it! if you don't count those 15sec's or so in that ass kicking bridge.

If the rest of the songs gonna stink as much as this one, HIM is going way down... wich is really fucking sad!

I really do hope that the rest of the songs are gonna blow my fucking head away and be so good I have to listen to the songs til' my ears explode... i really do. But hearing this song makes me a bit nervous...

And HIM music has never been heavy enough to blow your head up, so you may want to look elsewhere haha.

If you can't notice how much harder the new music is then you need to turn your volume up lol.
HAHA, "how much harder" that was a bit mutch ::)
The chourse is poppy as hell and so is the rest, except the middle part that is a bit "doomy"
But i still think the song is starting to get a bit catchy :o

If people aren't happy with this after DL.  Then they're not gonna be happy with HIM.

This song has been dubbed the poppiest one by Ville himself.  The fact the doomy bridge has been pointed out proves the fact its a heavier song.

Well, what I think anyway  :D

Yeah I totally agree with that but what I mean is that HIM aren't going to go back to that exact grittier GLS feel because of production values and a change over the times.

However, what this album will be is something that will be pushing the limits of the newer HIM sound.  Hopefully that means a really rough, heavier album, we'll have to see.

Actually, I think it appears in the credits. I don't know how far in, but I've seen someone on a Transformers message board say that they heard it during them. I think a majority of the songs from the soundtrack get played during the credits. Another one of those, for sure, is Doomsday Clock. There's several websites out there that, when listing the tracklisting for the soundtrack, tell which songs are in the movie and which aren't. HIM have always been listed as being in it. I'm not completely sure because it just came out for the general public in the US the other day, and I don't even wanna see it to be honest. Haha. Maybe just out of curiosity to see what the craze is all about. I never played with Transformers when I was little.

i'm quite sure about this:

     E  Q    E  Q    E  E     E  E  Q    S  S  E  Q
E||------------------------|---------------------------|
B||------------------------|---------------------------|
G||------------------------|---------------------------|
D||------------------------|---------------------------|
A||-----4-------4-------4--|--L-----2------------------|
E||--2-------2-------2-----|-----2-------4h-5p-4--0----|

  E  Q    E  Q    E  E     E  E  Q    E  E  Q
------------------------|------------------------|
------------------------|------------------------|
------------------------|------------------------|
------------------------|------------------------|
-----2-------2-------2--|--L-----0---------------|
--0-------0-------0-----|-----0-------4--5--0----|

L... Hold Note

----

i think the chorus is basically: #F, A, E, #C - powerchords

i can also upload a guitarpro5 file if it's useful for someone... a got the whole intro with guitar, drums, bass and key + part of the chorus...
maybe someone can continue the work with it then ;-)

yeh that would be awesome big improvement on mine

I think the other songs on the soundtrack like The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward" sounds the same as the album version, so though it's an interesting thought.  I don't think there will be any difference.

Hm, this is not a heavy song.  It's all under sleek production. Even the "doomy" bridge.
With all these "it's going to be heavy" talks I was actually expecting something heavy. Now I'm a bit confused about the new album

And for the record. I am mainly in it for the lyrics.

I mean the music makes it better. But I am a born poet. I grew up with reading and writing of poetry. I just love to read the lyrics as I listen, even if I know it all by heart.

To this pair of ears, Passion's Killing Floor is the best HIM track since the brightest moments of Love Metal. It's quite funny though, as this is clearly not a "single" song, as it has no major sing-along chorus. It sounds like an album filler to me, albeit an extremely good one. Sets my expectations pretty high about Venus Doom. Let's see what happens.

One more thing: the Transformers OST version of the song sounds much better than the songs on Dark Light. And I mean production here. I don't know about you guys, but to me Dark Light always sounded kind of muddy, like it was poorly mixed or something.

too high tech for not enough versatile effects which L.A. & N.Y. studios had.
pity, it is their worse when it comes to production too.

Yeah, I've seen it on other pages but it would be nice for the official page to offer up more then a 30 second clip. It's not like having the song on there is gonna hurt record sales. I'd prefer to have the song on my page link to the official HIM page, not some fan page.

To Prove that Ville is sometimes not sure what he creates ....
Well I don't want to say that.
More like, out of his place when being Interviewed about his work when asked what is the purpose of it.

Not to mention that he nearly stole some music from a fellow Finnish band as their opening track is just hilarious.

He mentions Elvis Presley's "Can't HELP Falling In Love." When I heard that, a lightbulb in my head clicked and I thought "Oh my lord, Venus Doom's chorus sounds quite similar to Elvis' song." Just like how Vampire Heart had the John Carpenter's Halloween keyboard intro.

EDIT - Haha, sorry, "Can't Stop Fallin' in Love" is a pop song from the Dance Dance revolution series. I meant "Can't Help Falling In Love."

I like PKF live more than the studio version cause it seems to me, that Ville sings lower.

It sounds to me like techno music, which i hate.

i like remixes and acoustic versions better than just putting random live tracks on it.  I usually do like remixes, but i think they put too much remix into pkf.  I really like the licb acoustic though.  I'm really not sure though because i didn't here the whole thing yet, it might be awsome.  Sometimes clips are decieving.

Plus don't worry there are more remixes on the 25 dollar version of venus doom.

Yeah, I agree with you.
But who knows, maybe the whole remixed song will turn out to be really good.

It's something new and different, and I'm glad HIM is branching out a little like that.

Yeah, maybe! For example: I love the remix of Soul on fire!

true i find them to be the one band that no matter how much change in there sound its the songwritting that makes them, as long as that stays qualty you can lose

With every album they reach a better quality, and all of their albums cause a suprise!

all of their albums cause a suprise!

I can agree with that, but not always is a positive suprise :( Look at Dark Light. I don't say that DL is bad, it's just not as good as Love Metal, which is the best album from  Greatest Lovesongs.
