Okay, we should have one topic for the new Album. This is what we know so far...

To hear Valo describe it, the new HIM material does indeed sound exciting -- albeit markedly different from what fans of the poppy Dark Light may be expecting. “It’s like Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality meeting with My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless,” he says. “It’s going to be super melodic, and the vocals are going to be soft and sentimental, but the guitars are going to be in your face all the fucking time. We’ve been studying all our Black Sabbath albums and putting at least four excellent guitar riffs in every song. It’s like full-blown heavy metal for those headbangers who still want to hold a handkerchief in their hands, in case they might drop a tear. People are probably going to hate it, but we’ll see what happens,” he laughs.
With most of the new songs already written, the band plans to began recording in March at a studio in Helsinki with Dark Light producer Tim Palmer behind controls. We're hoping to get Hiili Hiilesmaa, who was the producer on [2003's] Love Metal, to coproduce it with Tim," says Valo. "The two of them did a couple tracks of our compilation album, [2004's] And Love Said No, and they worked really well together. We're trying to sort that out now"

Meanwhile, the band will begin recording their new album later this month at Finnvox studios in Helsinki, with producers Tim Palmer (Love Metal, Dark Light) and Hiili Hiilesmaa (Greatest Lovesongs Vol.666, Dark Light). This as-yet untitled album will be released worldwide sometime in July, while lucky Finnish festival-goers will be treated to a performance of new material at the Miljoona Rock festival and the following day at Ilosaarirock festival.
Look for singles to air at the upcoming festivals!

If they are dead then keep posts in bullshit if you are excited yay for you. Either way I have beena die hard HIM fan since before most the people in this country and I know a few on here like Todd Jerry and Homer are some of the others. At least we are not shooting them down right away.
Back to the article. If its translated properly then Effing A right for heavier music. I am so excited to hear this. HIM will once again be heavy, melancholic, and dramatic just not dramatic and melancholic.
*REMINDER* HIM is very melancholic what the hell do you people expect them to sound like. SO don't wine they are dead when they almost consistantely sound the same with a few changes on every other album. Get over it. That's their sound and its here to stay whether we like it our not.

I had a really good feeling about Dark Light, especially after hearing Vampire Heart and Killing Loneliness from RAR 2005. It's not like Dark Light is bad...it's just not as good as any previous HIM albums. I still listen to Under The Rose and VH all the time. Just not so much any of the other songs!

The end product was heartbreaking :(
But I think interviews and other Ville based album updates are trying to say that the band is gonna make up for DL.

Yes maybe so try not and lose all hope people. All bands go through bad patches some more than others. But where did all our faith go....I know out the window with DL for some of you. But hang in there I am sure something will turn for the good. 8) No worries.

You guys really just make things worse by putting the band down, they know they messed up with DL and could have done a better job, but at least they did have a few solid songs... you all should give them at least a little credit for getting where they are now and just because of where they are now doesn't mean it will influence their music... I believe what Ville is saying about the next album and I have faith in them. It's hard and stressful being a musician, you go form a band and make as many albums as they have and try sticking with the same style the whole time.... it gets hard, so please have some faith in the band... they made one minor mistake and you guys are giving up on them already, have some respect.

Personally I reckon Ville will turn do some Johnny Cash type thing after this album. I could just imagine him going solo and doing acoustic stuff, maybe some folky. Then coming back in a couple of years with a HIM album.

Passion Killing Floor,.. that sound like some Michael Jackson song title. Anyway, whatever or not the new album is great, hard rock back to the beggining as stated by Ville, I will surely will get it. I love HIM's music and between all the crap that is sounding all around the world I think Ville and company are one of the best options out there.

The producer for the next album is Tim Palmer, who mixed "Love Metal" and had the major responsebillity for "DarkLight". In march HIM enters the studio in Helsinki to start recording the next album.
- What to expect on the next album?
- It sounds dull, but it is true, everything bad that happend in 2006 made me dig deeper inside of myself and work with stuff, because of that it is a really really super personal thing that is on the next album. I try to hide it all on pseudo...(?) and spice it up with some sense of humour.
Villes favorite songs at the moment are "Bleed Well"
and another one is "Passion´s killing floor"
more titles are almoust done but can be changed during the journey so those he wants to keep to himself.
Behind one of them hides a lyric about sucide.
- As always it is very purifying, he says about the subject in the end, the lyric is something positive. When you are really desperate what do you do? the only way for me to get rid of the agony is to write a song and if I thought writing another bad idiotic boring 80-style goth rock song can live yet another day then I have fulfilled my mission. Everybody has their own way of handling life, for us it is music.

The reference to My Bloody Valentine is promising and exciting to me. But why must they study Black Sabbath albums? Get over it! Everyone is trying for that Sabbath sound nowadays....it's not all that interesting! You shouldn't have to 'study' anything anyway......it really pissed me off that he said that.....goddamn it.
You know, it won't actually sound like Sabbath. Its ideas, all bands have to do it. Otherwise we would just get the same again, Dark Light II

Just because you are influenced by a band doesn't mean it will sound the same. It's like comparing 2 different songs from the same band... they won't sound the same no matter what because they are different songs. Same goes for this... they have a feeling that they get when listening to black sabbath's music and that's the same feeling they want to try to achieve in their own music, what's wrong with that? They just want to give their fans a chance to get the same feeling they got when they were just fans and were crazy about a band.

Hmmm. Could just be a target date if all things run smoothly. Whoever the webmaster of Heartagram is, they need to start updating more. I guess it's always been that way, though, but you'd think they'd at least announce the new Uneasy Listening on there.

last week i orderd uneasy listening vol.2 , the him book, and the dark light tab book for guitar on amazon , i saw the tab book was done by hal leonard they always are right on the mark so i'll be able to see what tunings they really used on dark light. he he he

H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo admits that 2005's Dark Light, his band's first proper U.S. release, was, well, too complex and confusing. Hence, the guys in the Finnish quintet — Bam Margera's favorite band — decided to simplify their goth-imbued sound for the tentatively titled Venus Doom, the LP they've been working on with producer Tim Palmer (Dredg, Ozzy Osbourne) in Helsinki.
"There were too many things going on," Valo said of the band's previous release. "[Venus Doom is] going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before — that's the whole idea. It's like we're mixing My Bloody Valentine's Loveless with Metallica's Master of Puppets. ... There won't be as much ear candy on this one. There are a lot of riffs, and it's more guitar-oriented than keyboard-driven. Really, we just wanted to rock our own socks off."
But Valo doesn't characterize Venus Doom as a total departure for H.I.M., saying instead that the LP will still contain the singer's trademark brokenhearted lyricism (see "Finnish Rockers H.I.M. Say Everything They Do, They Do For Bam Margera").
"We wanted to make a really rockin' album — one that would explode your speakers," he said. "But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars.
"Lyrically, it's about me losing a relationship and then actually regaining it, and losing my sanity and regaining it," Valo continued. "As you grow up, life gets more and more complex, even though when you're a kid you think things are going to get easier. It's like a f---ing puzzle that just keeps on having more and more pieces to it. It's very personal, this album. It's like me getting rid of my demons and putting the pain in the music. It's cathartic, and it's about cleansing yourself and trying to have the courage to take that one step further."
Valo penned one song, "The Kiss of Dawn," for a close friend who committed suicide soon after the band wrapped the recording sessions for Dark Light.
"It's been a tough year," Valo said with a sigh. "I'm not complaining at all. But I've had really sh---y things happen to me in my life, so this is definitely the darkest album we've done, lyrically. It's also a celebration of life. It's about remembering the ones you loved with a smile rather than being all dark and brooding and having hair in your face and trying to be Robert Smith from the Cure."
Other numbers slated for the album's final track list include "Love in Cold Blood," "Passion's Killing Floor" and "Dead Lovers Lane." And while Valo wouldn't confirm rampant rumors that his band will travel with Linkin Park this summer as part of the revived Projekt Revolution Tour (see "Linkin Park Finish Apocalyptic Album, Revive Projekt Revolution Tour"), he says the band will be touring the States around Venus Doom's July 10 release.
And what does Valo's old chum Bam think of the newest H.I.M. material? Well, he hasn't heard a note yet, but the singer did express a desire to work with Margera: He said he'll ask the "Jackass" star to direct the clip for the album's first single. But he hasn't approached Bam to discuss a collaboration just yet.
"We have to finish the damn thing first," Valo said, adding that the entire LP should be in the bag within the next few weeks.

Cory beat me to it, I heard the news in a Finnish Magazine but I got lazy to mention it.

I'm finally happy with what I'm reading. The song titles aren't bad, and "Venus Doom" is bizarre enough to make me feel cool again.
I'm so thankful the band decided to go toward a harder sound. Granted, I remember hearing that Dark Light would be a "punkier" album. So lets not count our cards before they're delt.

It may not be as sentimental as their past. But I know Ville will show the feelings in the lyrics as usual. But not as bad as Dark Light (good album, just didn't take their time).
I am sure it will sound good.
Can't wait for a demo of some sort. Or a live song.

I think it will be an improved GLV666 , because that one is quitar oriented but not in a progressive way like love metals soul on fire or babl. It's kinda doom. Best album so far in my opinion. Lets hope it will be great :)

Well Venus Doom doesn't necessarily mean Female Doom. Venus is traditionally the god most synonomus with the female, and Valo has used references to it in "The Funeral Of Hearts" and obviously "Venus (In Our Blood).
Granted, the goddess Venus is also one of the gods generally associated with many of the current conspiray theories involving Jesus and the Church. So he may be referencing that.

Ville has the greatest sense of humour and his intelligence always shines throiugh. Don't you get it Venus (Goddess of Love) = Love and Doom is a genre of Metal so it is just another way of saying 'Love Metal' just a play on words so maybe he is hinting it is a return to that style of album let's wait and see.........

I was excited for Dark Light to come out and honestly it was a good album but could be better. Long time HIM fans need something to ROCK to now play the music while trying to fall asleep. Im a huge fan just like everyone else on this forum and i think we need something to turn up our volume, roll down our car windows and let the world know that HIM is alive!

This is the best time to be a music fan. All this speculation that just get's you all excited. The one thing i enjoyed about dark light was the media coverage. Since it was produced in the states the states got the majority of the coverage.

As far as my comment about the states....
For the longest time i had to pay 2 to 3 times the price for HIM cd's. I live in the middle of podunk idaho. I had to pay 45 bux for the singles collection, and 30 for greatest love songs. It was a VERY nice to change to have HIM become semi mainstream. In the states anyway it was much easier for me to keep track of them. I have been listening to HIM ever since i first heard join me 4 years ago.
HIM is all about the music for me. I don't care who else listens to them. I don't care if they don't like me. I just love the music they produce and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

Well I went to see them in London on Friday night and they did a new number and well lets just say it didn't set the crowd on fire and I can't even remember it as it was so unspectacular and just to add I hope that by the time they get to the states they are actually putting some effort into their live show. He looked like a tramp and they might as well have hung up a back drop which said 'what bit of fuck off don't you understand' because it seemed to me that they were trying to kill the band although may have been implying that HIM were already dead as they came on to the funeral march!!! It was seriously the worst gig I have ever seen in my life by anyone and I shall not be gracing Mr. Valo with my magical presence anytime in the forseeable future. They need to learn a bit of professionalism and a lot of their fanbase need to be a bit more critical and have slightly higher expectations of them.

I've seen video from that show and the band doesn't come across any different than usual. Granted, they aren't as energetic on stage as they were back in the Razorblade era, but it's not like they were all just standing there like a high school band who has no idea what to do. There also seemed to be a pretty decent reaction to the new song, Dead Lovers' Lane...

Well it might have helped if he had sung a bit more then - and his voice was crap when he did. And it doesn't seem to have got any better on the other two nights. Go to youtube and have a look.
I have seen HIM quite a few times and there is a difference between stilllness and idle arrogance. Check out on one of the other nights when he let the audience sing an entire verse of a song while he was lighting himself a fag!!! And from the replies I have had to my original post I reiterate what I said then - HIM fans need to be a little bit more objectively critical and have higher expectations of the band as I think that this is part of the reason we are getting these performances. The band know when they are crap as Ville admitted about this New Year with which I totally agree and commented on at the time but most fans thought that Tavastia was 'fantastic'.!! It is a bit like a love affair - when you have fallen out of love and your partner hasn't you just see how crap you can treat them to see just how much they will take and in the process lose all respect for them. I think that the band have lost respect for most of their fans and I can't say I blame them when it is clear that they can come on and do any old shit and behave anyway they like and their fans will still say they are great.

A band's album is a collective piece. The lyrics, songwriting, recording method/process, and production are all vital. Claiming the success of an album relies solely on good writing is very trifling. Many albums have been slammed for their production quality and vice versa.
It's the whole package.
On that note, I'm a believer that Dark Light wasn't successful because it boasted a crisp, clean SOUND unlike its predecessors. It can really make or break an album.

You have no Idea if my lyrics are right or wrong... I already said that I know that some of it is probably wrong. I just made out what I could, thought of every word that sounded like what he was saying and applied it to what I could hear, if it didn't go along with the lyrics I trashed it but if it did I kept it as a possibility and then compared it to all the other possibilities and whichever I felt sounded more like something Ville would write is the one I chose.
Let me clarify on what I said before. The Lyrics tell a story... the music is what brings picture to the story. Yes, a song will not make it if the music doesn't fit the story. Compare the song Beautiful to the 3rd Seal version... 2 different sounds. the original to me fits the lyrics much better and actually the music itself brings meaning to the lyrics but mostly the way he sings it is what makes it good. The 3rd seal is much harder and to me it makes him unable to sing the way he does in the original. That's just my opinion.
Btw... with Dark Light they made the music first and then the lyrics, that's why most of it sounded bad. It's hard to make music without some story behind it, but it's not impossible... it's just much harder to do than to make sound from the lyrics.

I don't know exactly where it came from but I do remember reading an interview with the band and they were saying that they were doing their production backwards for Dark Light... sound before lyrics.
I'm just gonna say one thing... Music began with no lyrics, that much is true. But since that time music has expanded so much that it's not just that anymore. Taking the sound from the lyrics or vise versa changes A LOT about how you perceive it. But for me, not sure about anyone else, I enjoy the music I listen to because I am able to relate to it... I can apply my life to the story it is telling in one way or another. You take the lyrics out and you really can't do that... you might be able to take a crazy guess as to what the sound is about, but no one will have that same idea.
Dark Light didn't fail because of sound... it actually failed because of both sound and lyrics... personally I believe it was mostly lyrics, but let me explain. Take the songs that you do love from it and compare them to the lyrics of the songs you don't like... there's a big difference isn't there? You will see that the songs you love have a good story lyrically and the ones you didn't like basically had no story at all... so lyrics alone DO play a large part. Setting the lyrics aside, imagine the songs with no lyrics at all... now out of all those songs which are your favorites? You will notice that they can be different than those with lyrics... Just more proof that lyrics play a bigger roll than you think.

Ville Valo coudn't be more bummed out about how good HIM's forthcoming album promises to be.
"I've been having thes meltdowns like never before" says HIM's Ville Valo. The finnish frontman is on the phone from Finnvox studios in Helsinki, where the band is tracking the followup to 2005's Dark Light, tentaively titled "Venus Doom". "When an album is on it's way, its always something. Last time, I had these panic attacks, and this time around I've been going through severe depression. The albums sounding great, and we're having a great time while doing it, but I'm really having a hard time."
The band (which also includes guitarist Linde Lindstrom, bassist Mige', drummer Gas, and keyboardist Burton) is once again working with Dark Light producer Tim Palmer, with coproduction and engineering help from Hiili Hiilesmaa, who produced 2003's Love Metal. "When you have two guys that know the band real well, everything goes alot faster," says Valo. "And it's been nice for the band to record at home, because everyone can sleep in their own bed until the touring thing starts." So, what, then, is the problem? "Oh, I don't fucking know." Valo laughs. "You prepare the songs and you work on lyrics for maybe years before you get to actually hear them played by the band, and then it's such an emotional thing that goes on when that happens-it's like you 've got to destroy something beautiful to rebuild something even more beautiful. It's devastating to me, but it's devastating to me in a peculiarly beautiful way. It's like Edvard Munch's The Scream-but with pastel colors."
Never one to shy away from wearing his vampire heart on his sleeve, Valo says his lyrics for Venus Doom (which, like Dark Light, will be released on Sire Records) are more personal than ever., including a song for a friend who commited suicide two years ago. "Sometimes, when you write lyrics, you think you're writing them about somebody else," he explains. "But all of a sudden, when you read them again, you're like, Fucking hell, they're about me! That's kind of weird, and that's been happening alot lately."
Still, Valo assures Revolver that he hasn't lost his macrabre sense of humor. "It's all still tongue in cheek, to a certain extent," he says. "You can't take yourself too seriously-or way too seriously, you know? There's a fine line. My favorite is the song 'Passions Killing Floor.' The first line is 'My hearts a graveyard baby!' And there is a song called 'Dead Lovers Lane': 'Crawl down dead lovers lane/The maze of memories stained/And suck the blood out of my heart.' Stuff like that. So, Im still the depressed fucking gloomy motherfucker that I always was." he laughs.
Valo previously told Revolver that Venus Doom would sound like Blsck Sabbath meets Nineties shoegazers My Bloody Valentine, and the singer still stands by the description.
"Or U2 meeting Kyuss," he offers. "It's still very melodic-the keyboards are super-gay-very Depeche Mode, very Eighties-but everything else is super-fucking heavy. At times, it sounds like Master of Puppets-era Metallica, which is really cool. It sounds kind of macho, which is nice. So it's kind of like a she-male record."
Venus Doom, which wil be mixed by Palmer and Valo at L.A.'s Paramount Recording, is slated for a July 10 release.
"We're trying to be fast," says Valo. "We're trying to be like the Seventies, when Whitesnake and everybody were doing three albums a year."
Wait, did you just say Whitesnake? "I love Whitesnake! David Coverdale is my fucking hero!," Valo exults. "Though our brand of cock rock is a little more subtle. We are very sensitive on that side," he chuckles. "We do 'slide it in' occasionally-but only if she says so."

I highly doubt VD will come out in July, for one there hasn't been any promotion for it and July 10th is only one and a half months away. Just my thought, besides HIM always says a date then changes it to the fall.

According to H.I.M.'s Finnish record label Helsinki Music Company (HMC), the projected release date of the group's new album, tentatively titled "Venus Doom", has been pushed back to September from the previously announced July 10. The band's sixth studio CD was recorded at the Finnvox facility in Helsinki with producer Tim Palmer and is scheduled to be mixed this month in California, followed by a video shoot.
H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo recently told MTV.com that "Venus Doom" is "going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before — that's the whole idea. It's like we're mixing MY BLOODY VALENTINE's 'Loveless' with METALLICA's 'Master of Puppets'. ... There won't be as much ear candy on this one. There are a lot of riffs, and it's more guitar-oriented than keyboard-driven. Really, we just wanted to rock our own socks off.
"We wanted to make a really rockin' album — one that would explode your speakers," he added. "But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars.
"Lyrically, it's about me losing a relationship and then actually regaining it, and losing my sanity and regaining it," Valo continued. "As you grow up, life gets more and more complex, even though when you're a kid you think things are going to get easier. It's like a f---ing puzzle that just keeps on having more and more pieces to it. It's very personal, this album. It's like me getting rid of my demons and putting the pain in the music. It's cathartic, and it's about cleansing yourself and trying to have the courage to take that one step further."
Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Dead Lovers Lane", "The Kiss of Dawn", "Love in Cold Blood" and "Passion's Killing Floor".

REASONS:
THE SACRAMENT: Bam will direct the video and the name will be changed into sacramentum(latin for sacrament).
DONT FEAR THE REAPER: This ones long...really long...very long... lol. HIM found out that this song had a VERY LOW fanbase and is remaking it into two videos. Their version will be 8 minutes long, and containing some of Valos most kept secret lyrics in a notepad of his that he's been writing. The video will be taken place in Glasgow Necropolis which is a victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. THIS IS CONFIRMED AND I CANT BELEIVE WHAT IM ABOUT TO SAY BUT ITS CONFIRMED AS WELL! Bam apparently has a small singing part in sacramentum(RM) and in dont fear the reaper(RM).

A lot of weird shit is popping up lately. If you check out Wikipedia's page for Venus Doom, it has two new song titles listed: "Sleep Walking Past Hope" and "Cyanide Sun". Cyanide Sun sounds gay, but Sleep Walking Past Hope is pretty cool. Hopefully at least that one's true.

I've heard several dates including the 10th but September 10th is on a Monday and in the US new releases are released on Tuesday's.
I'm stoked about this album. Heavy sounds so great! If it's as heavy (or a bit heavier) than Greatest Lovesongs 666 then I will do backflips lol. I love all the albums but after DL I'm ready for something a lot harder ;D

for sweet things there's Dark Light. DSBH is a very deep and great album. Yes, its a little mellow but Ville didn't had to go back and repeat phrases for the lyrics as in DL.

It's not official. Ville Valoa, a user on the heartagram boards who is close to the band posted it. He said it's only a mock up based on the ideas he has seen. They haven't even decided on a final design yet.

The album was supposed to have been 100% done at the end of May. However, they are still working on the artwork and that sort of thing. My guess is they are working with the label to coordinate how they are going to promote the album. That, or drinking till they can't feel feelings anymore.

And... Sleepwalking Past Hope sounded strangely familiar! It's the same stunning melody from "Thulsa Doom" version of "Salt In Our Wounds"!!! :D
There is no ballad in the album as far as I listened... I mean a whole ballad track... One starts slowly but then gets heavy! :D

I believe the watermark is an ID tag unique to each disc.

If that were the case couldn't someone just record it through an analog device? Their is probably hidden watermarks (skip, crack, pop) scattered throughout the tracks one wouldn't realize were watermarks.

Unless I'm mistaken, the tag is digital. If thats true, the tag wouldn't be found on an analog recording. Therefore it couldn't be tracked. There has to be some type of audible watermark...

About the album being a "new" GLSV666... No, nothing can top that at least for me... But I believe it's WAY better than Dark Light and even Love Metal as far as I can remember!!!

H.I.M. To Film New Video This Month
Finnish goth metallers H.I.M. will film a new video on Thursday, June 21 and/or Saturday, June 23 in the Los Angeles area. Directing the clip will be Meiert Avis, who has previously worked with U2, AVRIL LAVIGNE, JENNIFER LOPEZ and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, in addition to helming H.I.M.'s "Wings of a Butterfly" video. The production team put out a casting call for the clip this week and will hold auditions on Tuesday (June 19), looking for "a beautiful girl (model type) to perform in the lead role of the video."
As previously reported, a brand new H.I.M. track, entitled "Passion's Killing Floor", will be included on the soundtrack album to Michael Bay's "Transformers", due on July 3 via Warner Bros. The disc will feature a total of 12 tracks, nine of which are brand new and exclusive to the soundtrack.
"Passion's Killing Floor" comes off H.I.M.'s forthcoming album, "Venus Doom", due in North America on September 18. The band's sixth studio CD, which will arrive one day earlier internationally, was recorded at the Finnvox facility in Helsinki with producer Tim Palmer and was mixed in California. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Dead Lovers Lane" (video), "The Kiss of Dawn" and "Love in Cold Blood".
I am confused now as that quote suggests a proper release for PKF. If that's so then wouldn't KOD be the second release making the thing on the stickers strange.

I don't think they have changed, i just think their in the public eye more now. I mean at one point we only heard form the band every now and then. Nowadays they have a magazine interview/article every month! We are prying into their lives more now then ever!

I dont think they have been "americanized" they just got slapped with a big doze of "mainstream",haha. If you listen to all those CRAPPY american bands you can clearly hear that HIM is not anything like them even tho they decided to make crappy pop music in DL. But still i have som faith in them after all i`ve heard about the new record. Really looking forward to september ;D

H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo said in interview that the band's upcoming album, "Venus Doom", is a darker and heavier effort than its previous CD, 2005's "Dark Light". Valo explained, "There's...a lot of SABBATH and old-school METALLICA (in there). I wanted the album to be more aggressive, heavier and more out there."
The new direction also allowed Valo to switch up vocally. "I wanted to sing lower — use my baritone a lot more," he said. "When all those influences come together, it's like, 'I wanna do that [Mark] Lanegan, Leonard Cohen-y type of vibe.'"
Valo added that the disc's tentative first single, "Kiss of Dawn", was inspired by the suicide of one of his best friends. Valo said, "The whole song is a tribute to him. It's also a love song. I love that dude. He was a great friend of mine. We hung out and had great f***ing conversations. It's a celebration of life, rather than death."
H.I.M. will have a chance to see how the new stuff stacks up with METALLICA when they open a few dates in Europe for the metal gods. "It's going to be fun," Valo said. "I grew up with 'Master of Puppets'. For us it's kind of scary to play such big places. Wembley [Stadium] is like 70, 80,000 people. It's a totally new experience."
"Venus Doom" is due out on September 18.

RR was pop - and as fas as I can tell most HIM people loved that sound and for alot it was their first hearing of HIM.
Personally, Greatest Lovesongs is my favourite HIM style - and that's dark - not heavy.
A mixture of those two styles (RR/GLSV666) would be perfect for me.

I think I only changed my opinion on a release with Dark Light. But again I don't dislike that album at all. I think its because we almost get dillusioned because its new stuff ;D
I really liking the way this album is sounding so far and all I have heard is two live clips and Passion's Killing Floor. I like these songs more than Wings Of A Butterfly and Killing Loneliness which I also heard early. Tis promising.

In my personal opinion their best albums were from RR to Love Metal. I like DL, but I don't love it as much as the rest of HIM's albums. So far what has been released or leaked sounds really good.

I agree, when dark light came out i was excited as all hell, picking up the limited internet edition version and even the regular cd. Now I never listen to it. I hope Venus Doom is better then Dark Light and I don't just leave it lying around in my car.

I still listen to Under The Rose and Vampire Heart regularly, but that's about it. I always burn HIM "mix" Cds for my car, and most of the time it's mainly RR and DSBH stuff, peppered with a good mix of GLS666 and Love Metal. DL...not so much. Hell, I listen to Uneasy Listening 2 stuff more than Dark Light.

You know what I think it is... it's not that the DL album wasn't good.... it's just that the songs get old fast unlike their past ones. I know that I fell in love with every song on DL except for DL itself lol but after constantly playing the CD over and over, it got old and that's when I started not likings some of it. I'm gonna be honest though... I havn't listened to DL since maybe almost a year, and I popped it in the other day and I enjoyed it... I still don't see why The Cage and Venus where not on the original albums, those songs were really good I thought.

yeah thats it. i had that for a while i sent it to jay to start making a new web layout for the site but i didn't post it cause my friend who i got it from told me not to. cause it might get him in trouble lol. mine has the him logo on the top above her head and but it doesn't have the line going through it anymore. it looks like the backround they have been using for there metallica shows kinda looks more like a horror movie type font now the m kinda has a dripping effect like blood or something. it's also a painting that ville did.

Yeah, it looks as though they're gonna drop the line-through thing. As for the painting, it could signify the doom of Venus, as that's a very unfortunate-looking person in the painting.

I gotta respect them for trying something different. I love the cover art, but I just don't like the new logo. HIM's logo is the same as the coca cola logo me. Whenever I see it, it just feels right. When I first got into HIM one of the things I instantly recognized was that the logo just felt like it belonged to them. The new one seems too generic for my tastes.

I don't think they are changing the logo. They probably just thought it would look better to have stand alone letters in front of the heartagram for the stage set. Probably easier to handle a large H, I, and M cut out then a whole H-I-M cut out. The promo flyers they are handing out at Warped still have the original logo on them.

mine has the him logo on the top above her head and but it doesn't have the line going through it anymore. it looks like the backround they have been using for there metallica shows kinda looks more like a horror movie type font now the m kinda has a dripping effect like blood or something. it's

About the track with Ville Talking it's sth like a hidden track I don't know if it's gonna make it in the retail album... A spooky background "music effect" is played and he says:

Everything I've heard so far sounds great. Can't wait to hear studio versions of Kiss of Dawn and Dead Lover's Lane! About the artwork, maybe this is only the art for the front of the jewel case, and it will be inside of a sleeve featuring different artwork. It doesn't even say HIM or Venus Doom on it. Then again, that could easily be fixed with a sticker.

10 minutes for a HIM song, without it being the last song of an album, sounds great. Of course, 3 minutes of song and 7 minutes of coda kind of sucks, but 10 minutes of trippy progressive love metal would be fantastic.

Well it seems Ville did not paint the artwork for the album. Ville Valoa on the official heartagram forum posted this.
"The painting was a passerby choice.
He saw the painting while walking the streets or something along those lines. He automatically fell in love with it and decided it HAD to be the next album cover."

Read a couple of pages back, I said that to me it sounds something like a mixture of RR and Love Metal but with better production, bigger overall sound and heavier guitar riffs... Linde's solos are great, Gas shines and Mige plays a major part too. As for keyboards, they are not everywhere like previous albums but when they play their part, it's great! Ville's voice is in a great shape and he gives us some very deep vocals in some songs. I can't decide for the heaviest track yet cause opinions change but the llightest is of course the 1 minute ballad. :)

It seems as in the video when u get onto heartagram, that Ville is very comfortable in this short little interview. All the times I have seen him talk he is very quiet and does not move around much. He seems very comfortable at what he is doing...very good job!

In the video the symbol for Venus flashes for a fraction of a second. I think it's obvious the key has something to do with the symbol. I ripped the video and watched it frame by frame with VLC media player, but noticed no other clues (that stand out visually)

Nothing can be leaked from the promos... it is watermarked. Even a 5 second clip is tracable. A watermark is a digital signature or in other words a signal hidden within the song. It is unhearable to the naked ear and it continuously played through the whole song.

I firmly believe there is nothing to worry about when leaking a watermarked CD. I've downloaded tons of 'em, so the people leaking them must think the same way. When they say watermarked, though, it could mean a handful of different things. I've never heard of anyone being able to "trace" a file. I have heard, however, or certain songs being at a different volume or pitch - things like that to keep people from wanting to share them because they'd be practically unlistenable. If someone leaks it, though, they leak it. If they don't, they don't. I can wait, but I'd rather not have to. ;D
EDIT: While I'm on the subject, I'd like to know where the lyrics of Bleed Well came from, as others have already asked. It's not that big of a deal to say.
Each CD is individually marked with a special signal encoded into the music. Every CD is different and as I said before, it can't be heard. It has to be found using the same software that was used to put it on and using the same alogarithm that was used, that they bought the rights to, so then they can decode the signal and trace back to whom the CD was given to. This whole precess is very easy to do, and since there are only a few CD's actually out there, it's not hard to watermark them.
Also, they don't actually trace the file... it's impossible. What happens is that the information gets leaked... the company finds out and get which information is leaked and then traces it back to who leaked it. Only way around the whole watermark thing is to keep the information internal... meaning only give it to people who are not affiliated with press, government, or the company who produced it... but then you gotta trust those people who u gave it to to not give it to the people mentioned above.

If a clip was recorded with say a cell phone or different form of low quality recording in an analog fashion, it would be very difficult to trace. Thats what happened with The Shins latest album. Someone leaked it in shitty quality, to make it harder to trace. Either way I don't think it's worth the risk. They could probably figure out what ip address the upload came from. Unless it was uploaded from a public library to an anonymous site... haha... ok I'll shut up now. It will leak, when it leaks. Probably a couple weeks from the release date.

Actually that theory was broken down maybe thirty years ago.
It was believed at first that Colour was indeed related to Black and White but it was proven other wise.

After dark light i was trying not to get myself very excited for this new album. But after hearingall these kick ass songs, i am REALLY excited, i Like Venus Doom the best then kiss of dawn then PKF. It is harder and the lyrics are better then Dark Light... VERY EXCITED!!!!

Tauriainen, your musical tastes seem to be a lot broader than most people on these boards, and I believe that you are probably one of the more "brutal" critics on here. To those that are die-hard HIM fans, anything they put out will be pure gold. But I think a 6/10 is is pretty good coming from you :P
What I've heard so far (most of the album haha) sounds a lot better than Dark Light in my opinion. Passion's Killing Floor was a little weak for me, though.

Expect the tracks mentioned above be posted too, you will hear what I mean.
Plus that tally is rather harsh, considering that the album lacks a lot of work. Mastering and Mixing plus not to mention some volumes were not done well.
I mean yeah Gas experimented with new drum kits and he got to do some of his favorite Sepultura Drum fill ins in couple of tracks. Linde with his hand damaged sort of left the band a bit short, but still played a good part in the last stage of the work. Mige does the same pattern. The keyboards are still too present for an album that tries to theories the idea of a new sound. Sadly enough the vocals are dropped to a lower range only to become a male falsetto and devour much radio friendly material on MTV and the Radio.

Hence why he has released nearly five albums that have stayed in the Rock Pop Genre even if given a Sub Genre name created by them.
Simple fact is when he signed to this world wide release contract, he signed his creative rights to create actual rock and create rock for the media not for himself.
Just because one can browse for Labels does not mean they can take any that is given to them with the highest amount of money.

Hmm...well we are going to get a change with the new album.
Only thing is what do you drop? I get a funny feeling Ville could decide to drop classic songs we all love in favour of more recent songs.
One of my main problems with HIM live is that they don't variate with setlists, seeing Metallica this year made me feel even more strongly about this. When I saw Metallica they were playing stuff they haven't toured in 20 years or such like, would it really be that hard for HIM to give Our Diabolikal Rapture, Resurrection or For You an appearance?

I think they don't play a lot of the old GLS stuff is because of the tuning they used back then.

I'm very much loving "Venus Doom". I love PKF, and Kiss Of Dawn, but Venus Doom, imo blows both of them away. It's definatly a more aggressive HIM, but still HIM nonetheless. If this is an indication of the direction of future albums, sign me up. I would like to hear some sort of alternate version of VD though. Perhaps a different vocal mix, or even a plain jane acoustic version.

I agree with Tauriainen on the fact that it really seems Ville is trying too hard to prove that is album is gonna be "super heavy and doomy" when after what im hearing it got a bit to "dark light-isch" production i think the songs would be a lot cooler if they produced it similar to the GLSV666 sound, a lot rougher and raw sound.
But i think Venus Doom is one of the best i`ve heard from VD so far. Very catchy. But still i think Dead Lovers Lane is the best one i heard so far ;D

According to frontman Ville Valo, it will be their heaviest album yet. Venus Doom will still be comprised of Valo's allegorical lyrics, comparable to HIM's older albums. He has also noted that the music on Venus Doom will be comparable to Metallica and My Bloody Valentine. The longest song on the album is 10 minutes long, while the shortest song is 4 and a half minutes. The album was produced by Tim Palmer (Ozzy Osbourne, Dredg) and Hiili Hiilesmaa (The 69 Eyes, Apocalyptica).
The album's cover artwork [picture] was painted by artist David Harouni. Ville Valo purchased one of Harouni's paintings at New Orleans' Harouni Gallery and later asked Harouni if it could be used as the cover for "Venus Doom." "Venus Doom" will be a 2-Disc release with one CD of music and a DVD of bandwork.

Yeah I am the same with this. I have been hoping this album would be better than the last, I just felt the last album was a bit samey and bland. By comparing the three songs I heard from DL pre release and these ones from VD I got this...

Passion's Killing Floor
I pretty much prefer all three of the new songs over the ones from Dark Light. I would say in comparison the only way in which old provails over new is that Vampire Heart is better than Kiss Of Dawn. In every other situation the new songs are sounding better, so I am really hopeful now.

1. Passion's Killing Floor - 4/5 I really like the song, it's catchy as hell. I just don't like the opening. Something about it, perhaps that it seems a bit too slow compared to the rest of the song. Once it gets to the verse though it kicks into high gear and doesn't let up. I LOVE the slow breakdown after the second chorus. I'd hoped that the album version would expand that a bit but it seems that this is the album version, and not an edit. Oh well, maybe the remix will remedy that...
2. Kiss Of Dawn - 4/5 As with PKF, I love this song, but there's just something about it that bothers me. It feels as if the song is being rushed through. It could just be that this is the radio edit, and the album version will sound better to me. The chorus is very beautiful, and the song in general exhibits more mature lyrics than anything on Dark Light. With DL it seemed like Ville was trying too hard to sound different than previous albums and it backfired. Here he is genuine, and it shows. Linde's guitar solo kicks all sorts of ass, although it seems artifically shortend. An extra 5 seconds would have gone a long way. As long as the song is, it seems short. Thankfully the album version is nearly 6 minutes long. Can't wait to hear that!
3. Venus Doom - 5/5 When I first heard VD, I was driving to work at 7am. I hated it. I didn't like how it sounded like St. Anger at the start and how different Ville's vocals sounded. But during the day the melody of the chorus kept popping into my head. By the time I was able to leave work the first thing I did was listen to the song again. I fell in love with it. The lyrics really struck a chord with me, and I found that I could not get the chrous out of my head. The band seems to make more of an effort to expand their sound on this song. It's harder and more aggressive than the others we've heard so far and the vocals are mixed differently than we've ever heard before. This is the song, to me, that represents HIM's past, present and (hopefully) future. A great departure from the previous title track song, Dark Light. DL is, to this day, the only HIM song that I cannot listen to.
4. Dead Lover's Lane - 4/5 DLL is a song that I can't seem to come to a complete decision on. I'm basing this "review" off the GIAN and Millionrock live versions on youtube, so it's really hard to rate lyrics. The feel that I get from the song is that it's a mismash of PKF, The Sacrament and Soul on Fire. I really like the piano part towards the end, and the overall melody which is really fucking catchy. I desperatly want to love the album version of this song.
These, along with the snippets of Love in Cold Blood and Bleed Well that we've heard are really hyping me up for the album. I've not heard one song I don't like at all. With Dark Light I had reservations about multiple songs. I'm very interested to hear more of LICB, which to me sounds like the most Razorblade sounding song, and Bleed Well too even though I hate the name. And of course there is Sleepwalking Past Hope. The idea of a 10 minute HIM song (that isn't a long, drawn out remix) is exciting...and I LOVE the name.

As for the new songs:
Venus Doom (3/5):
The beginning of it sounds like a Cathedral song, then out of no where it goes right into a soft piano-based verse. The Black Sabbath-esque bridge is also very cool.
Passion's Killing Floor (4/5):
I'm really into this song for whatever reason. It is somewhat reminiscent of Dark Light, but at the same time it feels newer, and much darker. The lyrics are also very close to my heart at the moment.
Kiss Of Dawn (2/5):
I just can't seem to get into this. It's not a bad song, but at the same time there just aren't any spectacular moments that blow me away. Not a bad filler track I suppose, but a poor choice for a single.
I'm not going to review Dead Lover's Lane or Love In Cold Blood seeing as I haven't heard the full songs. DLL has a cool solo, and LICB is definitely catchy, but both are a little too much like Dark Light for my taste.

Totally agree, I was so let down when the mixing of the album turned out to be more bland, toned down.
Hearing those tracks live originally I was like "Wow, this album is gonna be awesome". When you hear those songs live even now they sound much more raw than the record.
I think the Venus Doom mixing has a more edgier sound to it. Obvious it's not like the GLSV666 or even Razorblade days but it is definately more rough.

Razorblade Romance obviously has a sound all its own, and one can really see that by listening to the live bootlegs of that era.
Then Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights, And Love Said No (although Solitary Man was very much a Love Metal song), and Dark Light all had the same poppy quality. Venus Doom has so far fit the bill of this sound, although parts of each song have hinted more toward the Love Metal sound.

Well to be honest I think they "kinda" almost achieved the sound they wanted. Of course you can tell that the songs are more guitar driven and the keyboarding fell flat. Linde needs a little extra effort in making good guitar solos. Great playing riffs though. I like the way Gas hits the drums on VD choruses, it gives that hard touch.
to this moment, Kiss of Dawn is my favorite one. The intro main riff is very rocking then the low voice and the mellow chorus. A friend of mine that never heard HIM said after hearing the song: they sound so heavy and that guy sings so low but the chorus is very beautiful and catchy! hehehe they touched the string!
PKF is... mmmm I don't know. I dont like the main riff, kinda reminds me of Wings of a butterfly, the verses are great, the chorus is ok but it could be worked better with other lyrics.
Venus Doom is just awesome! you hear that rocking intro and you never imagine how the melody is going to change in the verse and chorus.
Ville said: heavy rocking riffs with mellow voice melodies. Granted!
Of course they aren't even close to GLS 666 or RR.
But judging on this songs they make me want to buy the $50 limited edition of VD... in fact, I'm going there right now :D

Yeah agreed. I think thats where I was getting at, in my personal opinion I think every HIM album has its own qualities making it individual most specifically Razorblade.
HIM's sound was grittier in the past, due to the bands personal taste and such like but also due to the fact they didn't have the production values they did now. When you have more paramaters to work with, the end product will always come out sounding different.
Part of me hears some Love Metal in the new album, part of me hears a faint GLSV666 in there, and I hear some Dark Light in there. So basically I am looking at it as Dark Light with much more balls :D
I don't know where VD fits in with all the current albums, maybe it doesn't. Maybe this is yet another turning point for the HIM sound. Everytime a new song gets leaked I change my mind on all of this, I think the unreleased songs (such as Sleepwalking Past Hope) could prove to change my mind yet again on where HIM are going with VD.

I am looking forward to hearing the songs that we haven't heard which I think are of the 10 minute variety. It would seem to me that this is a transistion album as they appear to be midway between their original love metal sound and a more doom laden future which looks to be the direction Ville wants to head for being as he is a big doom fan. I certainly hope so although there is not much money in it and most doom bands do it for the love of the music which perhaps is becoming increasingly important to him. I am sure that Sire have a lot to do with the way the album has been mixed as all they are interested in is getting a return on their investment. I suspect that is why Tim Palmer was once more brought in as without him I think it would have been a lot heavier but what can you do when you are tied into a contract. Sometimes you have to lay down with the devil but hopefully if it is commercially successful they will be able to dictate how they want the next album to sound but on what I have heard so far it is infinitely better than Dark Light and I agree that live the songs do sound much heavier and therefore, for me personally, better.....

i think love in cold blood is gonna kick all of our asses. it reminds me of judas priest... venus doom radio edit sounds good but i wanna hear the album version cause it feels like something is missing well i know there is and i think with it there the song will be completely awesome. dead lover's lane is the one that is really picking at my brain i can't figuer the lyrics out and half the ones you find on line from people i feel are very inaccurate, this song gets me pumped but also worries me i hope that it sounds as heavy on the album as it does live.

I'm the same way. Everytime a new song leaks I try not to listen. I want to be somewhat surprised when the album comes out. Dark Light turned out ok, I only heard VH, KL and WOAB before release (well, the Warner listening party I went to a few weeks prior), but so far I've heard at least some of every song on Venus Doom except Song or Suicide. At least we have the bonus tracks/Kiss of Dawn b-sides to look forward to!

In seriousness though, I kind of agree with Jen's explanation that we haven't heard the album versions yet, so it's ok. Besides that, if HIM is "leaking" clips on their official site, then obviously they want us to hear them. I can't wait for Love in Cold Blood. I think right now that's the song I want most. And the album version of Venus Doom.

The parchment envelopes thing intrigues me. I like the fact that someone took the time to come up with this thing. It's not just the CD in the back of the book like Dark Light. And 60 pages? That's pretty extensive for a CD book[let]. I think the deluxe version of MCR's Black Parade was only a 32 or 48 page book. That was a decent special edition too. I've noticed that Warner has been doing that alot lately. A lot of major bands of theirs gets a "super special limited edition" of some sort. I am glad they decided to do it with Venus Doom.

Leaking the album early won't stop most people from buying it. Those that wish to pirate it will still download it once the album is released whether it's leaked or not.

yeah thats true. they takes the money for each album, not from each cd...but some people says that the bands takes only % from the sales...if this is true the album really dont have to leak....
last year Ville said a lot of times that the new album should release in september 2007. then when they've done the demos in the beginning of this year the new date was 10 july.... but warner back the release date for september. this doesnt mean that the album should leak...so... ;)
i wanted 10 july for release date too but everthing has a good and bad side...
