Title: What was your first HIM album
Post by: ellis on October 27, 2005, 03:21:50 PM: Ok i noticed we have threads for the favorite album, but im just interested in knowing what your first one was. Huess its a good way of finding out who has only gotten into HIM more recently and who was lucky enough to hear about them a long time ago!

Razorblade Romance for me, which i heard from a friend and loved. Not lnog after that Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights was released, which of course became part of my collection quickly! HIM was my first experience with more gothic music, and it quickly got me into bands such as 69 Eyes, Nightwish, etc.

i'm just curious why it should matter when a person got into HIM, as long as we love them? me, it was about 1 year and 8 months ago, my boyfriend heard all the songs on cky4 and bought RR, and as soon as he heard it, he bought me a copy and said, "you are going to love this cd, i know you are" and he was right. RR is my all time favorite album, of all time :P

Played the crap out of those two songs and then I finally found an import of Razorblade Romance for $28. Since then alot of money has been spent on HIM stuff.

Just a note, I think he's actually playing that bass. Of course, on CKY2K it's got 'Razorblade Kiss' playing, but they used that clip in Jackass with no song so you can hear what he's playing. (Which is 'Razorblade Kiss' of course, just not that well.)

Let's just say, first album I burned was "Love Metal".... then when Razorblade Romance was released in the States.. I picked that up. Next up was the Singles Collection... then Deep Shadows... then Love Metal... then And Love Said No.... then Greatest Lovesongs... and now finally Dark Light.

I'm not a deadbeat... I just like to beat dead things.

Post by: Errin on October 29, 2005, 07:06:56 PM: I had been randomly listening to stuff on the internet jsut over a year and a half ago and finaly decided to go out and buy an album.. jsut whatever I could get my hands on.. my local CODA (which has now shut down) had GLSV666,LM and DSBH at £10 for all three so I thought, ''what the hell'' and bought them, loved practically every track so I bought RR a few days after then ALSN, I had jsut fallen in love and spent every penny I had on the HIM merch I could get my hands on.

NEVERMIND!

Well I heard HIM way back in 2,ooo no thanks to Napster and a girl who was leeching off my HDS bootlegs. We spoke briefly she dedicated I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy), so I heard it and I liked it. but before that she introduced me to Wicked Game I liked the band so much that I stole more tracks.
Later on I bought R.R. through some ebay merchant who was nice enough to hook me up with a collection of bootlegs that I did not own.
Than I purchased GLVS, DSBH, after that people knew I liked the band. So now I get albums for free. But my anus still hurts everytime HIM releases material.

It's loves requiem, cus i remember an interview with ville talking about how loves requiem was one of the first songs he wrote and it was called heart of darkness. He even says heart of darkness in the chorus

I made good, though. I bought the real one when it was released here.

The reason for that is because the first song that got me interested in him was Gone with the sin(orchestra version) and that song is on one of the singles in the box

i know, that sucks, where i live its not that bad, well.. only that with the appearance of Ville with apocalyptica and LAURY well... now all the fangirls of the rasmus are into HIM, its sad, im not against them but.. i looked at their new fanclub (official!! wtf? there was already an official HIM club with more than 2 years and this girls have 3 days of knowing HIM (ville) and now they are official!!?!?) it sucks really, they doesnt know a damn thing of HIM >.<

After a time (maybe a year or something), I heard their single Join Me, and realized HIM has a new album, got that and I loved it.

When I read the title of GVL666 for the first time, I had something like, 'what kind of band is that?' :)

It was kinda weird when you told someone what you listened to and they never even heard of them... Now it seems everyone knows them... I expected that to happen.. and im sure all you did too.

Then I bought Love Metal for Chirstmas, and my friend burnt me The Singles Collection. Then I eventually found DSBH at a local store, and rebought all the stuff I had burnt.

Then singles and ALSN came along, and I spent a lot of money. ;)

First I didn't like band ... maybe because it sounded so differend from the other music that I listened to - much heavier than the other stuff of mine atleast. Well e.g. the 'join me' was good but still. And all this happened during the release of Razorblade romance-album. I still bought the album(s) though.

BUT it was Love Metal that really blew off my mind. First the album was just 'good', but the more I listened it, the more I loved it. It's such a simple rock'n'roll album. After this I started to collect every live recording that I possibly found from the Net and still doing that...

Somehow I totally skipped the 'deep shadows...' album eventhough I have that one too in my collection but still.

Then i bought a box set of razorblade romance, greatest love songs vol. 666, and deep shadows & brilliant highlights. Then i got singles and unreleased stuff (singles collection!), and now i'm getting alot of live bootlegs and stuff.

I watched the video for Join Me and decided Ville Valo was the collest thing I'd ever seen, with the benefit of hindsight I realise I lead a sheltered life as a 16 year old.

However, I had already previously heard songs like buried alive by love, beyond redemption, and love said no, and a few others from my friend who told me about HIM. He supposedly was in Peru and just saw And Love Said No and thought it looked cool and bought it on impulse. So ya.

I then went to my local city, which has a pretty big HMV. I asked them if they had any HIM cd's and they didnt know what the fuck i was on about. About 6 months later i ordered the album from the internet. It was amazing, still is, but i can remember the feeling i got from listening to it for the first time. Magic.

I actually listened to song samples on MSN music before I decided to buy everything. I picked up Dark Light and Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights first. The rest were bought within a 2-week timespan after that. I really love this band and fell head over heels for their music!

It depressed me, so i couldnt listen too much. As time went on tho, i learned to appreciate it and now if anything, it helps me to feel better. :) Soo i went out and bought Dark Light when it came out, and a few vinyls.

The only one the store had was DL at the very bottom of a on sale ben, that didn't make me feel any better. So when I was in the car I popped it in my player and crossed my fingers. When I heard 'Vampire Heart' I had a epiphamy.(Corny I know but it's true) After I fell in love with every song on the alumb I went out and brought 'Love Metal' and went from there. I own all the almubs and love them all, but I can't listen to DL much anymore...I just heard it too many times...but I still listen to 'Vampire Heart'

I know it is late but that is when I started to listen to music more often.. I use to never like music much before around 3 or 4 years ago.. Therefore, I never went to music stores to see the HIM cds, and I never watched video channels to see them aired.. That, link, is why my first was DL

I have the idea of hearing "Join Me" during HIM's European "boom" (how could you avoid it..?) but I was very young at the time so I don't really see it as my first contact with the band.

My girlfriend took a trip to Europe and a few weeks later I was a proud owner of Razorblade Romance. From there the madness began :), but Deep Shadows will probably always be my favorite.

So sadly, I missed a lot of HIM years. Gone With The Sin was the 1st HIM song I ever heard and it was all up hill from there. :)

I found Razorblade Kiss on lime wire thought it was amazing. then I was a big skateboarder heard right here in my arms on cky3 and that was it for me went to record store and had the old guy import the aforementioned albums above the rest is history. on a side note like a year later the record store went out of business after he imported Love Metal digipack anf funeral of hearts single for me. Then I heard a weird rumor that the owner commited suicide by tying himself to rock and throwing himself in the pond by his home. Don't know how much truth is in that story, but pretty creepy and sad. I'll alwayd be greatful to that little old man. edit: he also imported the singles collection for me as well.. so it might have been a little longer than a year but still creepy none the less.
