Interview with Gas on 'Behind Closed Doors' podcast
« on: June 20, 2021, 10:52:07 AM »
Did anyone else catch this interview?

Just saw it searching around on Spotify yesterday. It's kind of cool to hear a long form interview with him for a change, but also very cringe as the interviewer is not the greatest and let it devolve into small talk a lot of the time. It's also a real bummer when Gas left the band 6 years ago and yet the interviewer doesn't ask any questions about Flat Earth.

I wouldn't say it's worth the 45 minute listen, but it was interesting hearing about the songwriting process. He stated that when Ville brought a song to the practice room, he already had it mapped out in his mind how it would sound live and recorded and mixed. He said he would go around the room showing everyone how to play it and then they'd jam on it until it was fully fleshed out. Throughout the interview, he keeps reiterating that everything about HIM is Ville's vision ("HIM is really Ville") - no wonder the songs on Gothica Fennica sound like they could easily be HIM B-sides!

If he would be totally honest, I wonder if Gas has any regrets at all about leaving HIM. I know the biggest reason for his departure was that he just wasn't having fun anymore, but he also brought up the songwriting thing back then and said that he missed being more involved in the process and creating his own material. It seems like almost the exact same scenario is happening in Flat Earth, though. The biggest difference between the two being that one band makes money while the other does not.

Thanks so much for sharing this Dallas_616  ;D

Such a shame what happened with Gas, Ville waited for ages for him during his hand injury and then he decided to leave anyway which I guess really hurt Ville :( It’s sad they no longer keep in touch.
