HIM is the greatest band from Finland. But there are also good bands there, UK or Germany are nothing compared to Finland when it comes to good music. No, I don't live in Finland :P. So what Finnish band can really compete with HIM?
-
Poisonblack or Charon!
-
nightwish, with their new singer
-
to my mind we good Finnish band Negative , Apocalyptica
-
69 Eyes & The Rasmus ;D
-
bodom ? but in total different way
-
mmmmmm no one ;D
-
bodom ? but in total different way
agreed. they are fucking sick.
-
The 69 may compete but wont succeed 8)
-
I love 69 Eyes....but HIM is in a leauge of their own.
-
Poisonblack or Charon!
Agreed
-
no one. all finish rock/ metal bands has something... finish. ;) but I can't compare with other band
-
Vampirija, can you resize your avatar or choose another one? It's a little bit big ;)

And welcome
-
evn though HIM is the best band, The Rasmus is a really good finnish band that i enjoy listening to
-
HIM is always the best, but Nightwish and The Rasmus are good too.
-
Oh, and I forgot to mention Sentenced. They're far far better than some 69 Eyes or Rasmus :P
-
Well Sentenced doesn't exist anymore :(
-
But Poisonblack does. Maybe it's not as good as Sentenced, but still better than Rasmus, Negative and 69 Eyes ;) And
-
NEGATIVE!!! 69 eyes and Poison black are Good bands and of course the
One and Only "Hanoi Rocks"!!!!
Nightwish is not the same anymore
The Rasmus Is a"strange rock-pop" personally i do not like... i know the thread is not about what we like.
-
One thing is really annoying, at least for me - HIM is labeled as band like Negative, Rasmus and 69 Eyes instead band like Sentenced, PB and Charon, while HIM's music is closer to Charon than to Rasmus.
-
I don't think any of them come close to HIM really but as far as finnish bands, it would be
HIM
Nightwish
The 69 Eyes
The Rasmus
i don't really like the others in the list
-
Anyone heard Northern Kings? It's a band with vocalists of 4 great finnish bands - M. Hietala (Nightwish, Tarot), J. Ahola (Terasbetoni), T. Kakko (Sonata Arctica) and the best one - J.P. Leppaluoto (Charon, Harmaja, ex-Poisonblack). They released album with 13 covers of old well-known songs:
1. Don't Stop Believin'
2. We Don't Need Another Hero
3. Broken Wings
4. Rebel Yell
5. Ashes To Ashes
6. Fallen On Hard Times
7. I Just Died In Your Arms
8. Sledgehammer
9. Don't Bring Me Down
10. In The Air Tonight
11. Creep
12. Hello
13. Brothers In Arms
Their cover of Rebel Yell is amazing. I'm sorry to say that, but it's far better than HIM version. We Don't Need Another Hero is also great cover. Only "I Just Died In Your Arms" and "In The Air Tonight" are little let down.
-
why is craddle of filth not in the list, i just think that they are one of the main ones.
-
Umm, Cradle of Filth is british band...
-
none of them
-
Umm, Cradle of Filth is british band...
my bad i got confused about where they were from thinking they fit in that genre
Children of Bodom is from finland
-
no one.. there is no contest against HIM
-
we hace to face it guys...HIM is the best Finish band ever...that's the thing...maybe there are a lot of good bands like Nightwish (without Tarja mmmm??),69 eyes,Apocalyptica,etc...but they are like HIM?? I don't think so....HIM is Just the Best Band
-
The 69 Eyes, Negative, Nightwish, and The Rasmus are the only bands that could come close. Out of all of them, I'd have to give the edge to The 69 Eyes because they are my favorite band.
-
sorry but the only band the rasmus competes with is my chemical romance. the rasmus wishes they were half as popular and half as talented as HIM.
other GOOD (but not necessarily competing with HIM) finn bands
-69 eyes
-charon
-sentenced (b4 they broke up)
outside of finland
-lacrimas profundere
-icon and the black roses (b4 they broke up)
-entwine
-
HIM has no camparation but th 69 is a good band too(not as good as HIM)
-
I love the 69 eyes with all of my heart and soul...but they could never be HIM...to me HIM is the lyrics and well...ville doesn't write "giving head" in every other song *hint hint* haha...but anyways, no band of the ones mentioned can ever compete with HIM...I'm not sure I know of a bad who can...it would have to be another band that write amazing lyrics but somehow HIM's lyrics speak to me in a way that no other band's lyrics have before...
-
I don't know, to be honest.
I think HIM is far better than these other listed bands in many aspects.
-
Apocalyptica and Nightwish have more "mainstream" attention than 69 Eyes, Poisonblack or Rasmus, but HIM has two things that everyone else doesn't...the heartagram and Bam. (While Bam likes 69 Eyes, he hasn't been the product whore for them as he has with HIM.)
The heartagram is something that catches your attention immediately, as any good logo is supposed to. I think a large part of their success and appeal is that in and of itself, as you'll have people wearing it simply because it looks cool, or at least know about it as they relate it to Bam.
Not starting the "Bam vs. HIM" shit again, but he gives them free advertising. And no, he is not soley responsible for their success, as their product has to be decent, which it is. Besides, they've been able to break away from his shadow, so it's not a big deal anymore, but it was a good platform in the U.S.
Personally, I like the 69 Eyes, but Nightwish has a far better shot at competing with HIM. I've heard Nightwish songs on our shitty local station that played "Join Me" well into the Dark Light age, but haven't heard a 69 Eyes song on the radio, maybe ever.

lordi is a joke.
as dave brokie of gwar said..."lordi is a kiddie version of gwar"
gwar is the greatest band not from this planet.
and i agree with everything jay just said. couldnt have said it better myself.

It is hard to say; every finnish band have an unique style; but if I enter in this "game" I'll make a top3 with bands about you don't mentioned it in this thread, so...
1) Poets of The Fall;
2) Entwine;
3) Carmen Gray;

It's good to see there are other Romanian people on this forum. Speaking of Finnish bands, it wouldn't have been difficult for me to include almost all of them but I tried to point out some I thought were pretty popular and known around the world with some talent that may compete with HIM. But I'm afraid that none of those can ever match HIM. :)
-
It's hard to say which band can compete with wich since they are all so very different.
I feel like that is comparison football with handball, both are sports, but nevertheless very different!
And no band is quite like HIM, but Finland has tons of great other bands and musicians :D
-
the rasmus are like HIM in a good way i meen vocal range is diff but their a band that have some good lyrics
-
I don't think The Rasmus are like HIM in any way.
They sound very differently and the lyrics don't talk about the same things.
It's just my opinion, but I think The Rasmus are not as good. They can be as famous, but not as good.
-
the thing about the rasmus
is there music used to be wayy different.
and to me it kinda seemed like when they came out with 'dead letters'
they were kinda going in the direction of HIM
-
I understand what you're saying. They've changed a lot, it's true.
I was talking pretty much about The Rasmus since Dead Letters. If they're trying to head towards HIM's style, I still think they're lyrically behind.
-
Sorta like the 69 eyes going from a hair band to a goth band...
-
here in the UK we got a mag called kerrang anyway nightwish was in there and they had a 4 page thing wen they went 2 japan but the artical sed that they were the 1st band to tour in japan
im sure that aint true or is it???
-
I would really say any band can compare. The bands listed are all rather...different to HIM. HIM is unique and has something those bands are lacking (though they are all wonderful bands!).
