I have seen HIM perform twice so far, back in their last US tour, and just last night in the Projekt Revolution tour.
I have so many live clips and video's that i have watched, and in all of them Ville looks so into the music, and putting his twists to the songs, and i just love pumping up my speakers and making it seem im there - this is the 2nd time i see them and ville does get into it like he does in what ive seen. I dont know if its cause he is tired or that that maybe it wasnt "HIM's" concert, but i honestly think its the fact he is playing in the US. I have a feeling, at least Ville, does not enjoy performing in the US.
Id love to go to a show in Europe, more specifically Finland, i bet that would be such an energetic show.
What are you're guy's thoughts?

It probably wouldn't, though. The shows in Europe and in Finland aren't really that different. The annual gig on NYE may have some kind of "special vibe" to it since it's a tradition and the club's packed with their friends and families but other than that, I'd say they're all the same.
It's the mood of the band that counts, not the country they're in.

I've always wanted to go to Tavaistia Club for new years. It's pretty much a life goal.
as soon as I turn 18, it's going to be a priority when free money left over from college appears.

The first time was amazing, but the second time Ville seemed very tired, like lacking the energy to pull out a great concert.
I think what happens with Ville in the US, is that as the venues grow bigger all the time, he needs a little getting used to the pressure. I'm quite sure it's only about nervousness and not about him "not enjoying performing in the US". As far as i've understood, getting to perform at big arenas and stadiums in the US is one of their dreams, so it can't be that he doesn't enjoy it.
It must be quite difficult to go from clubs of <1000 to stadiums of tens of thousands of people...

Some of their best shows have been in front of 60,000-100,000 people at festivals in europe.
Nothing in America compares to what they've done in Europe. They just play a shitload of shows in the US. In Europe they pop out maybe 10 at most, US is usually pushing 20 shows a tour after the 04 tour.

In my opinion, they are hit or miss. When I saw them last week, Mige and Ville were joking with each other a lot. Even Linde broke from his usual oblivious stare and made faces at Burton, but Ville didn't really bother to get the crowd into it. Gas still appears to be appreciative of the crowd and is usually the last one off the stage.
I don't think that it's Ville doesn't enjoy it, after all, it's his life.
I think a real break would benefit them all, not a "let's break from touring but make a new record in the meantime" which is the cycle they've been on for a while now.

Haha, well...I don't know...maybe it's both! Most guys have water & beer by their set ups, Gas has Whoppers (no onions) by his. My favorite thing last year was Linde swigging Jagermeister, then swigging Red Bull and swishing it all together during a bass solo.

My favorite moment was from '05 when our boy was drunk and kept knocking his stand back, one of the times which landed on linde's floor set up hahahaha

If you really knew what you were talking about, you'd know that Ville was completely wasted on alcohol while performing for the first time at the Bowery Ballroom, because he was completely unnerved because of the importance of the situation.
America is the place you have to conquer if you want some relevance in the international music scene, so playing a gig for 60.000 in America is more important than playing a gig for 60.000 in Europe, in that sense.
And again, they've played big FESTIVALS in the past in Europe, but never a tour like Projekt Revolution, and definitely haven't played any stadium concerts in Europe before this year. Only recently they've played at legendary European venues like Wembley, supporting Metallica. And maybe even you know what happened there.
And fuck it, who cares. I already told you that they've played shitty gigs at Tavastia, aswell as amazing gigs at the same place. Maybe Ville is fucked up because he is sober at the moment. Maybe the Project Revolution tour sucks. Maybe he'd rather be at Lost & Found downing some beers with some Jägermeister on the side.

Agreed with Jay, I've seen them four times in venues of various capassity and the size of the audiences never seem to be the issue, the first gig was great he seemed involved and up for it, the second was a wash out under the guise of a "sore throat" but the throat sounded fine he just looked...well for want of a better word...bored.
the third was probably one of the best I've seen, people have said "oh the sound quality wasn't great...blah blah" whatevs. Halloween 2004 was fucking epic. and the last gig I wanted to punch him right between the fucking eyes cause he sounded like complete shit, after half an hour of sounding vocally no better than a duck farting in the night and being too busy to actually entertain his fans instead choosing to spend half the gig hunched over making face love to the front row of kerrang! photographers.
sometimes he comes across as if he really couldn't be bothered one way or the other.
in short you pays your money you takes your chances. he does seem to try harder if its something reasonably important, like tavastia shows, or halloween gigs, something people expect high standards at but although the rest of the band always seem to be 100% what you want to hear he's a 50/50 vocalist live a lot of the time and only a 100% when he really wants to be.

I've see them only once but it was shitty too.
I even heard him better on the mp3 bootleg ( i found sometime after ) than there @ coliseum.
They just aren't great live.
That's something we've got to deal with.

ive seen them like 10 times...recently at the projekt revolution tour. Ville was not into AT ALL. in my opinion, its because theyre not headlining their own show...its different. and yes, i dont doubt they need a break. PLEASE TAKE ONE. theyve sold their souls to warners...they have to play shitty concerts...i wouldnt be a happy ville either. not unless it was MY show. make sense? im still drunk from last night. hah! 8)

He was completetly trashed at the bowery show in NY, which was in the paper and went down as ""the worst HIM show of all time" i also met them that night and ville just kept apologizing...come on you guys remember...ville just gave the mic away during fuineral of hearts, he kept throwing beers which landed on linde's amps haha...great show though

Everytime I've seen them they've been top notch, In the UK that is,
But I travelled over to montreal when they did their show their 2 years back and ville just seemed pissy towards everyone, and didn't have anything to do with the crowd.
I think its good when hes a little sauced, loosens his perfromance up, and makes great banter too!!!

I'm willing to bet it's related to the set list. I've seen them 4 times now and, with the exception of Dark Light material, it has not changed much. I'm sure he's sick as fuck of a lot of the songs, not to mention Join Me which the band have admitted to not enjoying anymore. It's understandable, but the obvious solution?playing other shit?doesn't seem to happen and I'm willing to bet it's because the band is worried that American (or Euro, too?) audiences will not enjoy songs from GLSv666 or Deep Shadows as much. Which is bullshit : )

They won't play much of GLS cos Ville thinks the songs suck now, and they don't play DSBH because of the terrible time they had recording and mixing that album. The band nearly broke up during that era.
I agree, Ville just doesn't seem like he enjoys what he's doing. I think he enjoys writing and recording, not so much playing live. I think it also has to do with him feeling the need to be perfect on stage. Nearly every time I've seen them Ville is always yelling at stage hands and tech people to adjust stuff. I think he's just concentrating too hard up there nowadays as opposed to just having fun.

Okay now that you mention that, um was his name Jonathan or something Darling666? I remember seeing on the heartagram forums, they were all like "RIP Darling666", and then my friend gave me a huge Dark Light poster, and she said Ville and his friend worked on this, and i asked what happened to him, and her reply was "Im just going to say he had a heartattack". So i don't know, i hope one of you guys can clear me up. I would ask in the heartagram forum but im sure they will be all anal about it. Some of might be here too, but i feel more at ease here than there.

I don?t think that Ville?s apparent ?ennui? on the Projekt Revolution tour was due to it being in the U. S. I think it?s just the fact that he didn?t enjoy playing in the middle of fucking day, with a seemingly rushed set, with lame fucking bands. Also, I think Ville has said once that he?d rather play a few small club gigs in a row rather than play one arena-sized venue. Personally, I think this whole projekt revolution thing was something their label fucked them into, so I think that could be part of the reason as well.

Im not sure if im correct here. But I do remember reading that the 2nd night of 2 nights at Irving Plaza in NYC, I think in 04, or 05 (there 2nd us tour, before DL was released) that he was obliterated drunk and the show was unwatchable. I was at the first of the two and it was amazing. When was the bowery show played, or was it that Irving Plaza show? Either way, Ive seen them 4 times, first time being in Jersey at Starland ballroom last show of the 1st US tour. That was great. But there have been times where its like pulling teeth to get Ville into it. Run around do somthing, Fuck with the crow. Act like the rockstar you really are. WE will appreciate it. trust me

At the previous UK tour they have promissed to make an interview with the bilboard magazine and after the concert only Ville came to the interview as he promised. Other members quickly went out to the airport back home. The interview was also in a dark mood. Also in the concert they were like they are lost in somewhere fay beyond.

HIM WAS awesome live to year 2003. But they were best in 2000 - look at Gurten Festival, New Pop, Garage, or Berlin. They rocked!

I think Ville does enjoy playing live, but keep in mind that he just recently spent time at promises getting sober so maybe the alcohol consumption and the following first few months of sobriety was taking its toll not only on his physical self but his mental and emotional health as well.

i too went to projekt revolution 2007 and noticed ville's "i don't give a fuck" attitude. i read an interview with ville not too long after projekt revolution ended about how he is finally on a 2 week vacation back home in finland and how it was pretty much his first real vacation in over 2 years. about a week after reading that interview i saw them perform with bleeding through at the 930 club exactly 2 months after i saw them at projekt revolution and ville looked refreshed and was very into his music.
although i don't think it would kill him to move around a little bit more and to take the mic off the stand every now and then.

seriously i just watched that shit and i agree with every sentnece that was said there about not booing shitty bands. i really hate my chemical romance but i didn't boo them or anything...instead of cheering and going crazy for them i just simply clapped. and besides all the assholes in that video were wearing metallica shirts...what kind of hardcore metallica fan goes to a tour like projekt revolution knowing fully that none of the music would even relate to metallica
ps: metallica hasn't been any good since the early 1990s so fuck the douchebags in that video

It's good to the people that buy the tickets.. I hate when you pay a shitload of money to go to a concert and it ends up sucking big balls that have turned green due to the fact that they haven't been washed in three years because the person is just too lazy to wash them because he is just a lazy bum

yeah i've payed tons for shows, and some have sucked so bad..... but the cheapest shows ive seen have been some of the best. i guess the cheaper bands are newer and have more to prove

I saw them in london last week, on the thursday. and Ville was totally on form. i was really impressed definatly the best ive seen them in a while.

I think it depends on the song....I mean some of the songs are sung by him sooo many times that he just do it out of old habbit really and then he looks like he wants to be some place else but then when he sings other songs, songs he still can relate to he really looks like he's enjoying it :)

Now that they have a new album to add to the setlist, VV seems to be getting back into it.
Though I would assume that the shows he does near his home will be a little more special then being in another country. He still seems to give it all that he can...
